I am convinced that Apple's security was compromised - time for a good ol fashioned class action lawsuit

I have a feeling that I will be receiving a card any day now in the mail that starts with "If you owned an account between x dates and your account was recovered by someone else...."

Many people have accounts that have been quietly sleeping for 7+ years. Suddenly, there are lots of complaints about their accounts being recovered by hackers.

How can this not be Apple's fault? I also want to add that as far as I have seen, the cause is not their old device being lost or recycled. So if its not that, then it seems to me that Apple is the source. Most people are no longer using the same computers. They certainly aren't using the same device.

Here is a long thread with a lot of "me too". This is no coincidence. Just curious if you have seen an uptick of this issue. Why isn't Apple coming forward and acknowledging it?

Edit:

I appreciate that AppleID is just an email address. Maybe its not a breach, but I do still have a problem with 2 aspects (1) Apple did nothing to ensure that old accounts were transitioned to MFA; and (2) that they allow a recovery through and to a completely new phone #. I have been on the Internet since 1990 and I don't ever recall a time being able to recover an account to a new security path without some sort of ID (driver's license or proof of identity....and i think even that was rere)

Did Apple's database get hacked?

Can someone explain how this scam works?

My Apple ID seems to have been hacked (in a sense). But I am not understanding what the goal is. Also, I haven't used this Apple account in about 6-7 years. Maybe longer. I stopped using Apple many years ago. Never did anything with this ID after that. Then one day.....

What are they trying to do? What should my next steps be? Apple was of no help.

I wish there was an ethical code for dealerships

I looked at a Honda Pilot yesterday. I was disappointed that they wasted my time. They just got it in 2 days ago. But I am not sure that is a viable excuse for what happened. I called the dealership when I saw the listing on cargurus. The sales person said it looks great! Luckily, it was only 10 mins down the road. However, I still skipped other things I needed to do and it took about 20 mins to pull the car up. I was probably there for 45mins to an hour. Anyway, I was absolutely stunned to see that someone etched "PARK HERE" (or maybe dont park here??) on the one side of the car and then etched a wavy line on the other side all the way down. The salesman said he didnt know about it. Nothing in the listing. Even worse....trying to be open minded (maybe it isn't as bad as it looks), I said it was way overpriced because it was vandalized. No price discount. None. Zero. lol It was not priced in either.

Similarly, in May I was looking at a similar vehicle out of town. "Looks great". Sent me photos not closeups). I arrive and come to find out that there is rust all over the bottom panels which was not seen in the full size photos. The salesman says "I didnt know." He comes back with an offer of "we will fix the rust but no discount". I run away from rust....it cant be fixed. There's no way to know how far into the panel the rust is. The whole panel needs replaced, not fixed. I bailed out.

Can these dealerships be reported to state organizations for false advertising? Shouldn't these sort of details be in the listing? You cant see the rust in the photos (without a close-up). You can't see the etching in the photos with the way they have it photographed (angles, etc).

Elderly parents traveling to Punta Cana

Edit: I am wondering if the travel agent filled out the info electronically and printed out a QR code? it looks like a QR code can then be used for the rest of the trip.

Edit: US to Punta Cana

It is my understanding that my parents have to fill out an electronic ticket per info below. My mom tells me that she was able to get a "physical version" or equivalent from her travel agent. I searched online and the feedback I am getting is that there is no exception to the electronic embarkation digital form. My search results state that you have to find a friend if you dont have electronic access. My mom says she was able to get this physical version because some people dont necessarily have smartphones or electronic access. Which is correct? Are my parents going to show up at the airport tomorrow and have to fill this out electronically?

What does timing belt/water pump replacement go for in the area?

I'm new to the area. I have a Honda Pilot. My normal (out of town) mechanic says that it should be ~1500 for the timing belt, water pump, and spark plug. Just curious what you have seen it cost in the area. Will call a few shops as well shortly.

Opposing counsel represents a debt collector (Javitch Block). I don't usually handle these types of cases (i'm making an exception). They served my client. I tried calling Javitch Block directly in CLE and just get a voicemail. None of the attorneys have contact information. I emailed the general email address requesting a call. Nothing but crickets. Is this normal for debt collection? I also see that this attorney has been on pleadings filed throughout the state (from CLE to Dayton, OH). There's no way that this attorney is going to drive 3.5-4 hours to other side of the state and litigate over sub-1k claim. This feels like a scam. It also feels....unethical?

For those in this area, can you explain how the game is played?

Didn't really want to get to the substantive part, but the only thing they submitted with the complaint is a balance forward to the debt their client purchased. The debt was part of identity fraud that was reported dating back to 2022. The client thought this was all behind them. I'm trying to find out if the plaintiff has more information and what they have instead of letting this drag out at everyone's costs. Doesn't seem like OC is going to let that happen. This is a $600 claim.
