Is it worth restarting ITR2?

I finished the levelled missions in ITR2 last summer / fall before the official release, and then lost my progress. How much content has been added in terms of gameplay? Not talking about features so much as missions, progressions, etc. I have a 9-month-old baby and my playing time is very limited, so it's only worth it to me if there's enough new content to really add to the experience

String end covers?

I play guitar for my toddler and she always goes for the string ends. Even when well trimmed, they’re very sharp, and I worry about her falling into them. Is there anything I can buy to cover them, or any other recommendations for how to address this?

Suggestions on Mando Upgrade

Looking to potentially upgrade from my Loar LM-310F after a few years playing mando.

I find that my mando's sound is a little "dead" for my taste - I play more celtic than bluegrass, and think I would prefer something with a bit more of a ring and sustain. Wondering if I am better served with something A style with an oval. Fairly flexible with budget, though ideally would be around or below $1,000.

In NYC so doesn't seem there are a lot of places for me to go to try out a new mando but correct me if I"m wrong on that.

Does anyone like AI for legal research?

I understand how transformational AI can be for transactional work, but I've found AI to be more or less useless when it comes to legal research.

I remember about five years ago, the Lexis rep telling us that the search function uses algorithms to make natural language searches more accurate, and after trying it I went right back to terms and connectors. I feel the same way now. Usually, when I am looking for a case or cases, I will ask Lexis' AI a very straightforward question and either get an extremely basic explanation of the statute (e.g., I do false advertising work, and it will explain to me the general concepts of false advertising) or it will give me cases that do not answer the question at all.

Additionally, when I do more search engine-ey research (e.g., "does state X have a statute regarding Y"), unless there is an article explicitly answering this question such that Google would have turned up the answer even without AI, the AI will give me a completely made up answer.

Vasectomy

Curious how y’all feel about this one.

I am 38 and my wife is 40, and we have an 8 month old baby girl. We’re planning to have a second child in the next couple of years. For personal reasons, we decided to have our kids via IVF, and currently have 7 viable / healthy embryos left (had our first daughter on the first try). We also have issues with pretty much every form of birth control, complicating things further.

I’m thinking about going for the vasectomy sometime soon. From my POV, it seems likely that we would be able to have a second child via IVF, and if we can’t, there are probably factors that would also be limiting natural conception. At that point, we would probably accept being one and done (though, we can always adopt, and while I know it’s complicated there is still the option to reverse the vasectomy).

So, it seems reasonable to go forward with it. Just figured I would crowd source.

What was it like starting meds as an adult?

I’ve suspected that I have ADHD for years, but I haven’t been medicated, and now at 37 I’m going to be starting meds. I always felt that paying attention was a struggle, but I was able to make it through grad school and a good career, so never pursued it seriously. But I’ve always been extremely messy and forgetful, and I lose basically everything, and with the arrival of my daughter last year that is becoming more of a liability so I decided to start medicating. Going to be doing a combo of strattera and concerta, switching from Wellbutrin and Prozac.

Curious how this has been for people under similar circumstances. How did it feel? I’m also curious about whether my lifelong issues with unexplained brain fog / mental fatigue and anxiety can be tied to this, so particularly interested if you had a similar situation.

A baffling question I got on a law school panel

A law school classmate is now a professor, and I agreed to speak on a career panel to stroke my ego do her a solid.

During the panel, my friend told us about how the 1Ls did a mock negotiation involving a pharma company, and some students protested because they did not want to rep a pharma company, even fictitiously.

The question was whether someone can turn down work because it conflicts with their values.

Like, I get how some people should be excused from cases, like defending an opioid maker when a family member struggles with opioid addiction, but if you can’t even fathom fictitiously representing the pharma industry I don’t know if you’ll make it at a law firm.

Associate is displaying an entry level Picasso. Do I say something?

I’m a partner at a V10 firm (but, like, one that matters). A junior associate wants to hang his entry level Picasso sketch in his office. To give you a sense of how entry level, it doesn’t even have a name.

I’m just worried he’s going to embarrass himself and, even worse, me since I’m his mentor.

Look, I’m not a snob. I get it, not everyone can afford a true objet d’arte. But an entry-level Picasso means you’re terribly out of the loop.

If he were to hang a decent Matisse, for example, we would respect his taste, even if his wallet hasn’t caught up yet.

But an entry level Picasso? What does he think this is, Skadden?

By way of analogy, it would be tacky to wear an Oyster Perpetual. It’s just a Rolex for the sake of being a Rolex, and might as well get an Omega; we’ll see you’re a poor, but we’ll respect you (or at least have pity on you … like we met you during our pro bono clinic and decided to give you a shot).

What’s worse, buying an entry level Rolex shows that you think Rolex is an impressive brand. Nobody gives a shit if it’s not on a waitlist. And even then, Rolex is more of a paralegal brand. AP, Patek Philippe, Ulysse Nardin, these are partner brands. Hell, the firm’s managing partner wears a Grandmaster Chime, and you think he’ll be impressed by an entry level Picasso?

Look, his razor sharp legal acumen and client management skills are great, don’t get me wrong, but I was scrapping by once too and I don’t want him to give the wrong impression.

This is my favorite scene in the whole show. It's such a good reflection of exactly how people from Tony's background handled the issue around that time - I'm from a similar area in Queens, and I had this conversation almost word for word. It shows the insecurity (Tony's defensiveness about gay sex in jail) and hypocrisy (talking about "the lesbian thing," and being strict Roman Catholic), and they do a great job of showing the ambivalence (as Dr Melfi puts it). Also a very good reflection of Tony's psyche and the way he often waivers between trying to be reasonable and understanding one moment and vindictive on the other.

And, so many good one liners

  • "Well no, but uh ... huh?"
  • "He's a f@@@@@@g"
  • "Although that ... the lesbian thing with the ... jennifer biels. It's not bad," combined with whatever he was doing with his hands
  • "Although don't forget, i'm a strict catholic" with such a tentative tone that even he must realize it's BS
  • "I agree with that senator sanatorium"
  • "The guys that work for me are asking for head. His head. Oh what the fuck"
  • "So i never had need for any anal ... you know"

My wife and I welcomed our first baby in October, and are finally at the point where we feel comfortable returning to life outside of our baby. I have a lot going on, but it seems that b my wife’s social calendar is less full due in part to a few friends moving away. For a Mother’s Day gift, I was thinking about ways to help get out there like activities, groups, leagues, etc. Curious if anyone has ideas. We’re in our late 30s on the UWS, and she a social dork who enjoys sports, fantasy books, and dining out, among other things.
