Dreams change

I’m curious how many people that are C8 owners dreamed of getting a 911 their whole lives, bought a C8 and said, “this is perfect, I’m not paying the Porsche tax.”

I know I did, and I’m a German citizen.

For the price of a 911 I can have a C8 and a C7 and have two super competent cars.

Plus I think the Corvette “wave” is fun.

Big sharks vs. Small sharks

Okay. I have a dumb question. I have watched numerous shark documentaries that supposedly show smaller sharks leaving the area because a larger shark is approaching.

How do sharks know how big they are? They don’t have mirrors or scales.

Is this just made up nonsense that the documentary slips in to create tension or do sharks know who the bigger predator is?

I’ll hang up and listen for my answer.

Dry Mill Road

I was on Dry Mill Road today and I saw three Cyclists almost get killed by cars driving around blind corners.

If only Loudoun County could provide a path to be used by cyclists, runners and walkers that somehow paralleled Dry Mill and provided a safe place to cycle.

Evergreen Mill Road

What is the deal with Evergreen Mill Road? Every time I drive on it there is somebody driving 15 to 20 miles per hour under the speed limit until they get to the part where the speed drops down to 35 (near Heritage High School) and there they drive at 50 mph.

I hate to rant, but it’s all of the time.

The road even has digital signs that show your speed vs. the posted limit.

Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

Corvette clubs are one of the weaker parts of Corvette ownership.

Maybe other folks have a different experience than I do, and this post is more about making the Corvette ownership experience better than simply complaining. I have been a BMWCCA member for 20 years, started out at HPDE’s and later became instructor (and then racer). Two years ago, I purchased a C8 and joined my local chapter hoping to engage with Corvette owners like I did with BMW folks.

To say that I worry about the longevity of the Corvette clubs long term is an understatement. I’m not a young guy, but the clubs skew older. Most of the events are with car shows, parades, or lunch meet ups (which are mid week because folks are retired).

It seems a shame that Chevy makes such great cars and they are attracting real driving enthusiasts. Since I purchased my C8 I have really fallen for a number of earlier generation cars (C6 Z06, C7).

20 years ago I couldn’t figure out why so many of the BMWCCA students drove corvettes. Now I know that there wasn’t a place for them

I’m in Northern Virginia. What groups do other Corvette owners run with?

"Pre-law" CHUD

I'm going into my junior year at FSU (political science and criminal justice major) and I'm in Tallahassee for the summer. I've been trying to apply to internships/jobs/programs, but I just can't seem to get my foot in the door. I've been to the Career Center and pre-law advising, but I don't know what to do to boost my resume, when it seems like everyone is looking for someone with some experience. I've been phone banking and volunteering at a soup kitchen, and I'm in some clubs, and I have a 3.9 GPA.

I just feel like such a chud and like I'm falling behind. I want to work and get involved, but I feel like I'm burnt out and don't know what to do with my time. If anyone has any advice on what I can do with this three months of free time to feel less like a loser, please let me know. I really want to come into the fall semester feeling like I'm on the right track.

Citizenship by descent while estranged with a deceased parent.

My situation is as follows.

I was born in the US in 1968. My father was a German citizen born in 1940. Emigrated to the US in 1960. He became a US citizen in 1973.

I was estranged from my dad and mom and family 12 years ago. Despite this I have been able to acquire the following documents. All certified.

My dad’s birth documents.
My dad’s naturalization documents
My dad’s death certificate
My parents marriage certificate.

My birth Certificate

When I presented this to the German embassy they said I need proof of citizenship.

So I went back and I received a certified “negative record” for my dad

And a certified record of my grandfather’s positive record of citizenship. This lists my father as his son.

I have no contact with my family to obtain any additional information.

Will this documentation meet the proof for citizenship?

If not, what is my next step for obtaining proof of my father’s German citizenship?

Thanks in advance.
