Haven’t been in here in a long time!

Title says it all. I think I’m ready to move on from my Dark Star days and explore some new spaces. Not really sure what I’m after though, so open to ideas.

I’ll be stacking this with a Flight Delay and a Flint, so I’d like something that can get a bit weirder / deeper space / I dunno.

I’m in Canada and would prefer to trade in Canada but I do have a US address to ship to if needed.

Dark Star is more or less mint condition, Velcro on the back, downs with box and candy.

It’s a new album! This has to be to lowest hype during an album cycle. Is everyone at FOV? What’s going on?

Anyway. It rips harder than I expected upon first listen. Weird and strangely beautiful at times. Melodic as well, which I didn’t expect, but happy to hear.

I have a suspicion this “DJ Mix” business means there’s more coming from these sessions — an expanded or OG mix version or something. We shall see.

Thoughts?

I was fortunate enough to spend a couple hours with Dave at his house in Victoria.

Beautiful spot. He was gracious, friendly and almost intimidatingly knowledgeable about the band (obvs). Like, what do you do when you’re sitting next to someone who’s just that much smarter than you about the thing you’re there to talk about?

There were some nuggets that didn’t make it into the story. For example, we were talking about the band members in the years after Jerry died, and I asked him about rumors that certain individuals didn’t get along with each other. He denied that, saying:

"I never saw them not get along. I've seen them in the same room and I've never— these guys are brothers, you know? My brother's one of my best friends, I love him more than anything. But he's my brother. So there's gotta be some shit.”

I also asked him about some version of a revival of Dead & Co. / Dead Forever, but he said he doesn’t know anything about it, since he only deals with the band and its output up until Jerry died, basically.

Anyway…groovy afternoon with a groovy dude.

Yes, yes, I’m aware that that they’re focusing on the physical format and respect the project for what it is.

However, I don’t collect physical media, and I’m not in a position to purchase equipment to play physical media at this time (single dad of two young kids, etc). I’d love to, but it’s not a reality for me. So at this point I can’t listen to the album.

I’d gladly pay for it on Bandcamp or iTunes, but they’re not on there at this time.

Anyone know?

I thought all the box sets were gonna be on here. What’s the deal!

My two guitars currently are an American Original 60s Strat and an AVRI 62 JM from 2005. Both excellent guitars, I love ‘em both.

I find myself gravitating toward the Strat more. The JM sounds better, and looks cooler, and overall fits my personality more I guess? But something about the way I play, this Strat’s neck, and the contours generally, are more inspiring to me, at least these days.

So, for owners of both — what do you use more? Or, how do you use each of them? Genuinely curious.
