Any tool and die or tool maker apprenticeships in the USA?

I see the Mike Rowe ads but see now apprenticeships as implied. I search the govt apprenticeship site and barely find anything and nothing in my area.

When i search job boards I see the word "apprenticeship " thrown around worse than a drunken prom date but no listing for a DOL apprenticeship on the company's website nor job posting. It almost feels companies want to call it an apprenticeship only then lure you in on the pretense of the current main stream narrative of "join the trades".

Anyone got any input on this?

Kinda surprised with the attidues and behavior of the people I am working with in the Union Hall. I am wondering if anyone else has had the same experiences.

I come from tool and die and started working in the solar fields. Im not sure if all of you have the same experiences, but ill list a few:

  • I am working with people my own age for once. Not a guy 30+ years my senior.
  • I havent been yelled or screamed at.
  • Havent been called a fucken retard and no dead baby jokes directed at me.
  • Training is lack luster, but it is not a trial by error nor a firing if you fuck up.
  • Management treats you like a damn human, along with respect and diginity.
  • I have to relearn to ask questions about the job and not just watch from a distance and observe the task at had to learn how to do my job.
    • for year i was told to "shut up and do my job. Where not paying you to talk"
  • Drug screening weed out a lot of useless people.
  • Contract based employment weeds out a lot of shitty workers (over time)

Overall, it has been a new and pleasant experience. I expected being the FNG to be treated like shit and given all the shit work (call it a trial by fire) but this has been the opposite experience.

And for once, I am paid my worth and dotn have to suck dick or quit my job for a pay raise. Gotta love the union!

What societies or organizations exist in the USA that are not talked about?

When I lived in northern Michian I took notice of some people getting out of parking tickets, minor traffic violations, and getting preferential hire treatment, even when not fully qualified for the job. Later on it is was explained to me that free masons take care of there own, and it appeared there where a lot in the Upper Peninsula of Michgan. Haa ayone else ever experieced anything like this before in other parts of the USA?

To all the history nerds out there. I got a new one.

I am assuming this is a propaganda picture taken during the 1960s.

As seen in the second picture, you see a women with an 19th century single shot hammer fired rifle. w

My question is why would they use a 19th century rifle and not an old bolt action rifle or an M16 or AK47 for this photo?

By this point in history there was a huge amount of firearm surplus floating around the world from two world Wars. So, why / how would anyone still have a 19th century rifle, yet alone use it for a propaganda photo?

How many of people actually stay in there home state or town after they turn 18?

I see it more and more every year. The small towns in BFE slowly shrink, people get older and the youth move out and never come back. (Barring small towns outside of major metro areas). How true is this for the rest of the country?

FYI, I'm from Michigan.

What is a Vietnamese high-school diploma or an associate degree worth in the USA?

My wife has just recently enrolled in college course for an associates degree in nursing in the USA. During college admissions they asked for any and all education certificates and diplomas. She give them her high school diploma and her associates degree from Ho Chi Minh University. They accepted her high school diploma and just handed back her associates degree with no further thought.

When applying for financial aid thru the 'Michigan Reconnect Program' (state grant money for students over 25 with no college degrees) we submitting all the paper work (associates degree included) and she was still awardard grant money for her college courses despite having already completed an associate degree in Vietnam.

My general impression and big question is why would they accept her high school diploma from a no name high school in Vietnam but reject her associates degree?

Are college degrees from Vietnam not worth anything in the USA? Or were college admissions just pushing her thru enrollment?

Is the UK finally getting its shit together?

Seems like a natural response when a foreign industry wants to acquire a something deemed a national security nesessicity.

The USA response to the nationlization of an industry is to hold the golden share". They pulled this one when Nippon Steel acquired US Steel in 2025.

How much of western history is taught in Vietnam?

My wife gets confused when I start talking about the world wars or basic american history.

My daughter was watching a documentary of joesph stalin and the hid rise to power. When I started lecturing her on the Russia withdrawing from WW1 and the following Russian civil war and the eventually rise of the CCCP, she got really confused.

I'm not going to expect her to know a lot about western history, but I figured they would at least teach more of the rise of communism in schools in vietnam.

What industrial sites, both historical and current, exist in the UK?

I'm an American from the Michigan, USA with a love for industrial history and manufacturing. Having grown up and lived all my life in the automobile capital of the world, I can point many places that have / had industrial significance.

With the UK being the start of the industrial revolution in the 18th centurey, I am curious on the history of UKs current or past indutrual history. Anything from 18th century to current.

Lesser known areas are prefered.

If we have a ship nerd in the audience, I have a strong interest in ship construction during the age fo sail.

Example below, from where I live.

Dumb Question: Do you think river otters are cute or ugly?

I've been on this issue for 4 years and counting.

My wife and step daughter are from Vietnam. I bought our son a stuff animal (river otter) that he loves.

Wife thought it was ugly. Step daughter thought it was ugly. I said it was cute. My Wifes family things river otters are ugly. My family things they are cute.

My wife has tried to take the river otter and hide it, but our son cries and goes looking for it.

The reason I was given the river otter is ugly is because of its short legs. In western society we have all watched the cartoons and they always show the river otters as cute.

What are your opinions and is this a culture thing or what?

Image of river otter below:

Are thr tourist in Vietnam more spread out or sre they heavily in certain key areas of the country?

I keep hearing about all the tourism / tourist in Vietnam. Do these people ever spread other over the country and explore more than just the hot spots? Or do they just all cluster in the hot spots and it's immediate areas?

I have a dumb feeling that I wouldn't see to many tourist in places like cat tien or bien hoa when we visit my wife's family.

The lowest rent i ever paid was was in 2015. A whole $190 a month.

The apartment was an old WW2 billet cut into 3 units. The utility bill was the same amount as the rent. There where two known suicides on the property. And the place was often associated with single people going to after a break up (temporary). Also, the place was known as a red light district back in the day.

The whole complex was was ran by an some asshole Chippewa manger that hated cigarette smokers. Located in Chocolay township, MI.

Honest question: how do you feel about having women in an all male dominated shop?

Every place is different, but everytime I see a women enter a shop (tool shop in my case) they never last.

Either they get harassed to the point they quit, don't have thick enough skin to deal with the bull shit, or in rarer cases they beat there chest to much and try and play tom boy to then get checked by half the shop.

On one occasion I did see a chick fucking the boss, she got the easy work for a while, then either quit or got fired when assigned the more difficult/ dirty work.
