How does East Galt compare to downtown Hamilton?

My partner and I are eyeing a property in East Galt (in the pocket between Main Street and Dundas). We just visited the Gibson neighbourhood in Hamilton, so we got a sense of the safety in that area. How does East Galt and that pocket between main and Dundas compare to downtown Hamilton (particularly Gibson/Stinson/St Clair) in terms of safety/homelessness/drug use/crime? Thanks very much!

How hard will it be to achieve FIRE status as a graduate student in a long program?

For context, I am in a clinical psychology program. My partner and I are 30 and have about 250k saved, but we are about to put all of that down for a house. Partner makes about 70k a year and my grad school program takes at least 6 years to complete (I have about 3 years left including internship where you only make 40k). I have a scholarship for 40k untaxed every year, but pay 10k in tuition. Earning potential is fairly high when I get out if I go the private practice route, but I’m not sure if it’s enough to pull us out of 6-7 years with only one average income. In terms of housing, now seems like a good time to buy for first-time homebuyers in the area of Canada I am in, so we would like to go ahead with that plan. Anyone have any insights on this? Or should I just hope for a regular retirement? As an FYI, I already have an external job but it is just impossible to work that much in addition to the clinical degree which requires regular clinical work on top of regular PhD research duties.

Looking for friends interested in culture, arts, learning, etc.

Hi Everyone! I’ve been on bumble BFF but thought it might be worth it to post here as well. Without divulging too much, I’m a graduate student at the university and I’m looking for people who are generally curious about a variety of topics and who like to learn/discuss. I love 80s music, history and historical sewing, antiques, art, and psychology, amongst other things. Let me know if that sounds like you and maybe we can plan a hang! :)

Looking for cotton bathrobes that are not waffle or terry cloth - help me find the one I had in Korea!

I’m currently in an Airbnb in Seoul and I have this wonderful, thick cotton bathrobe. There’s no terry cloth, fuzz, or waffling involved. It’s similar to other cotton products that people here embroider in shops in the streets of Bukchon. I’m including a picture - I don’t know how to describe it or where to find it. I live in Canada so anything available to ship there would be great!

Who lives on Bukchon-ro 11-gil?

I walk up this road every day (only for the last week because I’m a visitor) at all times of the day and evening and there are always guards outside of one place. Another house has a UK flag outside of it. Im so curious every time - I assumed they’re ambassadors or something but I was wondering if it’s common knowledge among the locals.

Help me figure out what pillows to put on my couch

I’ve made my small apartment space pretty heavily Victorian-inspired, but I’ve recently been in love with all of the House & Garden ‘Design Notes’ videos of cottage homes decorated by English designers. They all seem to have an array of pillows on their couch that just go together somehow, yet are completely mismatched. The pillows I currently have basically match the rest of the room - red, yellow, and green. I want to start experimenting with more colours, textures, and patterns in my rooms but I feel like it’s so heavily Victorian that I don’t know how to make it cooler/funkier.

Any other tips on how to incorporate more modern pieces also welcome. Everything feels like it matches a little too well. Thank you! ^_^

I have someone in Waterloo but I’m wondering if there’s anyone who does blonde highlights well in Guelph who might be a bit more economical. Thanks:)
