Confused

Hi guys, confused intern here. I’m not sure about my fellowship goals and have been told I need to decide relatively quickly considering I’m on a J-1 visa. For me, the options would either be direct fellowship or working as a hospitalist for 3 years before being able to apply for fellowship because of the waiver requirements. I know for sure that I want to specialize, so hospitalist is not really an option for me.

I’m looking for a career with a good work-life balance where I can spend time with my family and future kids while still having enough financial freedom to be independent and help support my parents.

I really like medicine and I feel like I could enjoy almost any specialty honestly but I don’t it to be the focus of my life. I’m more interested in the outpatient setting mostly cause of the stable hours, uninterrupted sleep at night & relatively stable patients.

So far, I really like Endo/GI/Pulm/HemeOnc, but I’m not sure how well they align with my goals. For those already in the field - what are the typical hours, workload, and pay like? How much work do you end up doing outside of your scheduled hours, especially with things like literature review and staying up to date? For Endo, is there any potential to earn close to what GI makes?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts & advice, thank you!

Good luck with the IVs to everyone that applied!

Best US state to visit?

My husband & I want to plan a fun trip in the last week of October. We’re both long distance & have a 2 week vacation from work coming up. I’m planning on visiting him in Chicago for the first week and explore the city. I’m currently in Pennsylvania. We wanted to make a trip to a different state in the 2nd week.

FYI we just moved to the US in June from a different country, neither of us has a car yet. Budget is around $1500 per person including flights/hotel/airbnb.

What would be a good place to start? Would also appreciate recommendations regarding stuff to do, places to visit, must try food, cute coffee spots etc

[Routine help] Skin Flakes around nose

Does anyone know how to get rid of these? I’ve tried exfoliating but that just makes it worse so I put on a thick layer of moisturiser & it helps but they never fully go away. I’ve even tried putting on oils. No matter what they always seem to show up by the middle/end of the day.. so tired

Baby on J1 visa

Hi,

I just started my residency on a J1 visa this year along with my husband (also on J1). We are both doctors & are planning to start a family in the next 1-2yrs. Just wanted to know what the baby’s citizenship would be? I saw somewhere that Trump ended birthright citizenship of newborns born to parents on temporary visas.

We were planning to do 3yrs residency, apply for J1 waiver & potentially switch to a green card. Anyone who has been through the process, any insight would be appreciated!

Thank you.

Is this right?

Calories seem fine but 108g protein for not a lot of fish?

How many grams of protein?

The label said 17g which seems so low compared to a smaller version of this which had almost 70g?? Am I crazy or always trust the label?

Reading Tower

Hi, I’m moving to Reading for work & looking for a decent apartment. I work at the Reading Hospital so some place close would be ideal. I saw this tower on 601 Penn St that just started leasing & was wondering if anyone had seen it in person or had any suggestions?

Looking for a 1 bedroom preferably with in unit laundry.
My budget is $1500-1700.
