Cheapest way to visit South Georgia Island?

Hi everyone!

Visiting South Georgia Island has been at the top of my bucket list for a long time, but the cost is the biggest obstacle.

I know that most people go on expedition cruises, which are usually very expensive. I'm wondering if there are any cheaper alternatives that are actually realistic.

For example:

  • Joining a research or support vessel.
  • Repositioning cruises.
  • Cargo or fishing vessels (where legally possible).
  • Last-minute deals.
  • Volunteer opportunities.
  • Any other unconventional options.

I'm not looking for luxury—I'd be happy with very basic accommodation if it meant getting there at a lower cost.

Has anyone managed to visit South Georgia on a relatively small budget? If so, I'd really appreciate hearing how you did it and roughly what it cost.

Thanks!

What killed my chicken?

Found her dead in the run yesterday at 8pm. She was a few years old already, temperatures hit 38c/100f but the run has shade and they had plenty of water, these temperatures are also not uncommon at all here and they experience them every single summer quite regularly.

Alternate WW2 Timeline: Could Germany Have Forced Britain into a Negotiated Peace?

Alternate WW2 Timeline: Could Germany Have Forced Britain into a Negotiated Peace?

I've been putting together an alternate timeline where Germany avoids many of its biggest strategic mistakes. The goal isn't world conquest, but to maximize Germany's chances of forcing Britain into a negotiated peace.

1933

  • Massive investment in jet engine research and development begins.
  • German industry is reorganized years earlier.
  • Large-scale standardization of weapons, vehicles, ammunition and spare parts.
  • Heavy investment in trucks, logistics, rail transport and engineering units.
  • Major expansion of synthetic fuel production and strategic fuel reserves.
  • Naval priority shifts away from battleships toward U-boats.

1936

  • Germany and Italy fully commit to supporting Franco during the Spanish Civil War.

1936–1937

  • The Spanish Civil War ends much earlier, causing far less destruction.
  • Spain's economy recovers much faster.
  • The Spanish Army gains closer operational ties with Germany.

1937

  • The StG 44 enters production several years early.

1938

  • Albert Speer is placed in charge of reorganizing German armaments production years ahead of schedule.

1938–1939

  • Germany significantly increases production of:
    • U-boats
    • Trucks
    • Ammunition
    • Aircraft
    • Synthetic fuel
    • Spare parts

September 1939

  • Germany enters the war with a much more efficient industrial base.

June 1940

  • France falls.

Immediately after France

  • Germany and Italy launch an invasion of Malta before Britain can heavily reinforce it.

Mid/Late 1940

  • Spain joins the Axis after receiving guarantees of food, fuel, Gibraltar and French North African territorial concessions.
  • A joint German-Spanish offensive captures Gibraltar.

Late 1940

  • The Mediterranean is effectively closed to British naval operations.
  • Axis supply lines to North Africa become far more secure.

1940–1941

  • Italy avoids invading Greece and instead focuses entirely on the Mediterranean theater.
  • Germany and Italy begin oil exploration in North Africa (assuming commercially viable fields are eventually found).

1941

  • Germany does not invade the Soviet Union.
  • Instead, it builds a massive fortified defensive line along the eastern border.
  • Germany also does not declare war on the United States after Pearl Harbor.

1941–1942

  • A much larger U-boat fleet intensifies the Battle of the Atlantic.
  • Earlier jet research allows the Me 262 to enter operational service roughly two years earlier than historically.

1942 onward

  • Germany adopts a defensive continental strategy:
    • Hold Europe.
    • Dominate the Mediterranean.
    • Continue unrestricted submarine warfare.
    • Use early jet fighters to strengthen air defense.
    • Avoid opening additional land fronts.

The idea isn't necessarily that Germany "wins" the war outright, but that Britain finds itself isolated, under severe economic pressure, unable to reopen the Mediterranean, and facing a prolonged conflict with no realistic path to defeating Germany on the continent.

My question is: given these changes, how much would this alter the strategic balance? Would Britain still fight on indefinitely, or would a negotiated peace become a realistic possibility?

MS460 vs 372

What saw would you recommend for semi pro work? As in I work professionally but only once in a while. I'm hourly if that matters. I see both of these saws around the 280-350 euros mark so I may end up with one of them.

What is the trick to sharpening a chain?

I sharpened it today and it's better but it's still not crazy sharp, I've been trying for 2 years and I'm not there yet. What am I missing? And I've watched Bucking Billy's videos

What to do in Tangier, Chefchaouen, Akchour, Larache and Asilah?

I'll be going there in 3 days and want to know cool thing to do and places to visit as a group of six 20 something year old men.

Where can I get camel meat in these places? How is the Tangier nightlife? Best place to ride ATV, quads and camels? Cheap spas or hammams?

Was Hitler a zionist asset?

I see this thrown around a lot, that he was a plant recruited by the zionists but it seems far fetched and I have never seen any proof, just claims without a source. Does anyone have good information on this?

What do you fellas think? Worth it? Needs a new handlebar, valve tuning and has an oil leak. Heavily inclined to go see it but let me know. I'm currently doing around 40km a week but it can go up to 160km a week depending on work. No highway riding and I have a car as a backup
