Kileak The DNA Imperative

Hello folks! I'm doing a short youtube series on the US launch lineup of the original playstation, and the third game on my list is a 90s FPS... even if it's a pretty miserable one.

If any of ya'll are interested, here's a link:

Looking for simple audio solution on analog TV for game consoles.

I have a CRT TV which I really like the picture on, but it has horrible crunchy mono audio. I'd like to upgrade to external speakers with as little work as possible. Ideally I'd just get speakers with an RCA input, but those seem kinda hard to come by (and also all massive). I'd also like to avoid plugging too many extra things into my (already very busy) power strips at my video setup. If this isn't the right sub for this, I would like to be pointed to a better place to ask if you could.

Using meshtastic for two-way paging.

okay, before we start. YES, I know that there are meshtastic devices that look like pagers. That's not what I'm asking.

I want to be able to leave my smartphone at home, but keep access to the people I chat with on things OTHER than SMS.

Most dumbphones are literal trash, so I got to thinking about classic pagers, which would get forwarded messages from (landline) phones while the person with the pager was away from their home phone.

I was wondering if it would be possible to use meshtastic in a similar way, with my phone and a second device (which I carry with me) both being connected to meshtastic, my phone could send messages to my other device over meshtastic, including forwarded messages from signal or other messaging apps.

A nice bonus would also be getting two-way paging, where I could reply from my personal endpoint and have my phone send that message along to whatever messaging service it was intended for.

I think it would be definitely possible to make a hack-ey version of this, but I'm wondering if there's already any sorts of pre-existing solutions for doing something like this, either over meshtastic, or over another existing mesh network.

reviving Q10 with dead screen.

A few months ago I picked up a Blackberry Q10, it worked perfectly except for a damaged keyboard. I got a replacement keyboard, installed it, and... the screen was dead.

I can tell the phone still works. from the sounds and LED I can tell that the OS is functioning, but the display itself is dead-black.

Is this a common issue when replacing keyboards? And is this a software issue, or is my particular display just dead? (if it is, where could I look to buy a replacement?)

A subreddit for hank's new puzzle thing!

for those who just want the link:

here it is

for those who want an explanation:

I love 4x3! it's a great connections-ey game, and the best part? COMMUNITY CREATED PUZZLES RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX!!!!!

needless to say, there should be somewhere to share these puzzles. After I did my due dilligence and found no existing subreddit for the task, I figured I'd spin one up... how hard could moderating a community be anyways?

If you wanna share your 4x3 puzzles, discuss puzzle design and the game itself, or just like... hang out with people who like fun word games. Swing on by.

I look forward to playing as many puzzles as ya'll can link.

When are your beef days?

I'm trying to reduce my meat in general, and was reminded of beef days. For those of you who took up the practice, what days are *your* beef days?

native electron apps broken

running xfce. Recently updated my system to the most current packages, and all electron apps installed native (flatpaks still work) on my system got affected really bad by these graphical corruptions (with minor effects on other software. Any suggestions as to what might be wrong, and what to do about it?

solo design for image heavy site advice

Hey folks!

I'm looking at getting a website set up for my photography, and possibly future hosting of a webcomic. The only interactivity I expect is an email form, and maybe a retro-style guestbook or review section for my work.

I'm intending to selfhost, and because of that, don't want to also have the technical hassle of writing it by hand. What sort of design tools would be best for this use case? specifically, looking for something with enough flexibility that I can properly cultivate a "2000s"-ey feeling.

I've been considering a Static Site Generator, but don't know which one to use. I would prefer something open source if possible.

Looking for best controller and game to get.

I've played a lot of densha de go recently (and some other train games in the same style, like JP train sim games on 3DS) and want to get a controller and play some of the PS1/PS2 era games. I've got a softmod PS2 I can play JP region games on, I'd rather have a two handle controller (I just think they're cooler), and I'd prefer a USB one since it would be useful in other places, but would be alright with something using the PlayStation controller port if necessary. What controllers should I look out for, and where should I look for them?
