Who’s got Gazpacho?

I know Sebastino’s has cucumber Gazpacho on the menu right now. But where else should we be checking out while it’s in season?

Late night food and beer?

Visiting Portland soon and staying in the north west (?) side of town off of N Mississippi Ave.

What's the late night (10pm or later) food options I have to check out?

Also what breweries in the area are making the best IPAs, Sours, or Barrel aged stouts?

Where to go for birthday dinner?

I've seen the lists, know the players. I wanted to finally try Kaan, but it's unavailable. To help all y'all answer the question:

Some restaurants I like/love: Scotch Lodge, Canard, Laurelhurst Market, Clyde's, Ringside

Popular favorites I think are fine but overrated: Ox, Noble Rot, Ava Gene, Eem, Mucca Osteria

Notable ones I haven't tried but would: Kaan, Jacqueline, Coquine, Lechon, Nostrana, and whatever's behind door #3.

Restaurant has to have a full bar, that's a dealbreaker. No steakhouses because I already know those well. Geography unimportant.

IRC’s Moda Center Petition

This petition from Independent Restraunt Concepts came to my attention today.

https://weareripcity.org/

The version of the email I got listed four businesses that benefit from the Moda Center. They are Independent Sports Bar and Grill, Paddy’s, Cadillac Cafe and Satellite Tavern.

Now… looking at a map, theee of those are on the opposite side of the river. With no mention of four bars that are all closer (Spirit of 77, Metropolitan, Garden Tavern and OX’s Whey Bar)

Their argument also includes the fact that Portland and Multbomah County can raise the funds to make up the difference now that the State of Oregon has committed $365million, by “using existing resources and raising taxes.”

Meanwhile the Oregon Capitol Watch Foundation reports that 79.9% of Oregon voters oppose this even after knowing that the team will move if they don’t get the taxpayer funding.

How many people actually go out to eat or drink before or after an event at Moda? Do you pay to park downtown then pay to park again? Do you take public transportation between eating and going to the game?

And lastly, do you agree that loosing the Blazers will signal a massive economic downturn in Portland due to its impact on the local Restaurant scene?

Sudden taco stands?

I’ve never seen traditional Mexican street taco stands in Portland before. Maybe I wasn’t paying attention, but I was surprised to see them popping up. One on MLK & Ainsworth, another on Broadway and 33rd. If they’re new, what changed?

What are the Camera being put up on NE 82nd Light poles?

I’m talking about the Domed ones sitting on top on the new traffic light poles. Not the new speed cameras.

They’re a little overkill in quality to detect traffic to control the light changes.

In this era of over surveillance via Flock and Axon, I have to wonder how these are actually being used.

Who are the recommended Domain Registrars?

I have been using Namecheap since about 2008. Over the years I consolidated dozens of clients to them.

But since their acquisition by private equity last year, service has been dropping, prices are going up, customer service is getting worse, and their AI fraud tools are going wild locking long standing accounts that never had issues before.

Who makes a good pepperoni roll in Portland?

West Virginia statehood day has me really missing it. I haven’t been able to get a decent one since leaving the state nearly 40 years ago. (Probably because the laws around baking meat into bread are kind of all over the place.)

Thanks for the recs!

Best way to leverage equity?

Are HELOC's still the best way (outside of cash,) to leverage a down payment on the next property?

I'm seeing a lot of spam about alternative programs... but they also look scammy. I used to have a lender that could help leverage that equity against the loan so there was no money out of my pocket, but it appears that has changed.

Background: I have two SFH with ADUs, with ~$100k equity each in them. I want to use that to get into an 8 unit MF/Commerical property down the street. I don't have 20% down in cash to make that happen. I am not interested in 1033ing the SFHs (yet,) because both have really good rates locked in.

What are some obscure or lesser-known nationalities of cuisines in Portland?

I'm wondering if we have any micro-state restaurant offerings in Portland? Basically looking for food from tiny, underrepresented countries

I'd even settle for specific region cuisine from larger countries(Think India but South India or Bengal instead of generic)

Windows 11 Anti-Virus Blocking

I can not for the life of me keep the latest Windows 11 updates from blocking the app.

I've added it the exclusions list. I've even turned anti-virus off totally, and it keeps turning itself back on.

Anyone have any tips on this one?

What are you favorite bars to read at? Bonus question: Why do you like reading at bars?

The algorithm showed me an ad for a book bar close to downtown and I am intrigued. I've heard of people going to bars to read in the past but, idk, they always seem poorly lit for reading, and it seems like there'd just be too much noise.

BUT, people clearly do it, so I'm curious: Where are you favorite locations for it, and WHY do you enjoy it? I like reading, and I like trying new bars/restaurants, so I'm open to the idea, but I feel like I need a bit of convincing :p

Best bars to become a regular in North Portland?

I’m (26F) moving to Portland soon from another city. I’m not really a big bar hopper, but in my current city I have a staple beer/burger bar that I’m a regular at.

I’m mostly looking for a place that still has people around during the day, gets busy at night, and isn’t too expensive. Definitely looking more for beers than cocktails, and friendly/social people.

For reference, I think around the East Columbia district from looking at neighborhood maps. Would prefer anywhere walking distance to about a 10-minute drive!

EDIT: The way y’all are describing E Columbia makes me feel like maybe I got the neighborhood wrong lol. When I went to visit my new place, there were a bunch of cute places nearby. We ate at Salt & Straw and saw a Hot Yoga studio nearby!!

Where does one find a gigantic quesadilla, that certainly could be two meals, but you’ll eat it in one meal cause it’s so delicious?

Help
