Visiting and seeking food recommendations

My wife and I just planned a last minute trip to Portland over Memorial Day weekend. We are from Denver and would consider ourselves foodies. We love trying new authentic foods and experiences we cannot get in Denver. What are some restaurants or food tours you would recommend?

Best bars to become a regular in North Portland?

I’m (26F) moving to Portland soon from another city. I’m not really a big bar hopper, but in my current city I have a staple beer/burger bar that I’m a regular at.

I’m mostly looking for a place that still has people around during the day, gets busy at night, and isn’t too expensive. Definitely looking more for beers than cocktails, and friendly/social people.

For reference, I think around the East Columbia district from looking at neighborhood maps. Would prefer anywhere walking distance to about a 10-minute drive!

EDIT: The way y’all are describing E Columbia makes me feel like maybe I got the neighborhood wrong lol. When I went to visit my new place, there were a bunch of cute places nearby. We ate at Salt & Straw and saw a Hot Yoga studio nearby!!

Food Cart Waste Water Disposal

Hi! I am in the process of starting a coffee cart for catering and events in Portland. I’m running into a wall trying to figure out where to dispose of my grey water in compliance with the health department. I need a signed agreement from an approved location that’s ideally close to where I will be parking the bus when not in use, FoPo area. Is there any restaurants/ commissary kitchens/ food cart pods in the area that would let me do this? Any other advice is greatly appreciated!!

Coffee bus can fit in a regular sized parking space, if that makes a difference! Also, we currently do not have plumbing set up in the bus so if there’s any diy advice there that would be amazing. Thank you!

Where does one find a gigantic quesadilla, that certainly could be two meals, but you’ll eat it in one meal cause it’s so delicious?

Charged for rice?

So I just went to Happy Dragon on 82nd and ordered some food and they told me rice was an additional $2 charge. Rice was not included in an $18 entree. Is this normal for Portland Chinese restaurants?

Restaurants with the best views ☀️

I’ll be in Portland for the first time in a few weeks and I’d like to take my mom out to a nice restaurant for dinner, specifically one with some greats views if possible. Could be city views or nature views! I’ll even take suggestions for dining within an hour outside of Portland. Thanks!

Recommendations for PNW stops

My boyfriend and I are going to the PNW in a week. We’ll be hitting Portland, Columbia river gorge, canon beach, Astoria, port Angeles/olympic national park, and Seattle. We’re gonna be doing a lot of nature/art stuff maybe hit some wineries in willamette valley. We’re big foodies and feel like a big part of vacation is the food in diff areas. Was wondering if anyone had any must-try recommendations?? I feel like some are really good spots but the wait is an hour or so bc it’s so busy.

Portland Talks Inclusion—Who’s Actually Hiring?

Hey Portland community,

I’m a job developer working with adults who have intellectual and developmental disabilities, and I could really use your help right now.

This job market has been tough, and I haven’t had a placement in a while—the pressure is definitely building. I work with an amazing group of clients across the Portland metro area (Gresham, Damascus, Milwaukie, Beaverton, and Portland). Many of them have culinary training, love working with animals, enjoy connecting with people, or are looking for roles like dishwashing and back-of-house support.

What I’m really looking for are employers who genuinely value inclusion—places that believe people with IDD can absolutely succeed with the right support in place. Ideally, folks who are hiring right now or have upcoming opportunities.

If you know of businesses, organizations, or even specific managers who are open-minded and inclusive (or if you are one!), I would be so grateful for any leads, suggestions, or connections. Even a warm introduction can go a long way.

Portland is such a kind and community-driven place, which is why I’m hopeful reaching out here might spark something. Everyone deserves the chance to work, contribute, and show what they’re capable of.

Thank you so much in advance for any ideas or support ❤️

Good Queso Recommendations?

Alright so I moved here a little while back from the East Coast! What I have come to learn is that east coast vs west coast Mexican food is different.

I cannot find anywhere that serves queso, the white cheese dip. And I am missing it so much.

Does anyone have recommendations on any places in Portland that serve it??

Edit: Thanks to everyone with the good recs! Making a list to try all these
