Should we make Bighorn also Auto-Graze in all biomes?

There is a lot of confusion why they would not do that (and I totally get that). The next "Sheep Tier", the Longhorns, benefits from thunder immunity but only grazes at night. WDYT?

Latest Flocklands News Summary 🐑 Baa!

^(v0.1.75 – v0.2.1)

^(Here is a somewhat complete list of recent changes for Path of Baa: Flocklands:)

Hildegard
A new shepherd has arrived! Hildegard offers extra trading options and she will gladly take your sheep for some shrub. Sheep sent to Hildegard cannot be "restored".

Auction House
Auctions moved from one post per sheep to a shared Mon/Wed/Fri batch system -> queue any sheep anytime, bidding happens on one shared post with a 24h window (max 200 listings). The post HUD now shows a live countdown while a batch is running, and once it ends you'll see "Auction ended" plus a timer to the next open. A dismissible tip from your controlled sheep greets you on open with a bidding hint (or the next-batch countdown if the auction's over). Inns also got an Auction thought that jumps straight to the current post.
^(I am not super happy with it yet - so might tweak here and there!)

Colored builds
Hay bales and barns now come in all 11 wool colors. Dyed hay bales build for 100 shrub, place freely just like natural bales, and can be recolored anytime with dye without losing build progress - you'll find them from trek rewards, side treks, milestone rolls, the regional shop, and rare grazing drops.

Free placement
Builds and nature items (fences, lizard, inn, shop, cart, big/medium Bush, and more) no longer snap to a grid or lock one-per-tile: they place freely within a tile like flowers do, with proper depth sorting in the placement preview, making it way easier to decorate and place things.
Oil, path, and water-rock placement rules still apply. Two new decorative curios, big bush and medium bush are buyable with GC, earnable from treks, or found while grazing.

Bag & journal layout
Your bag now has "All" plus finer category tabs (Flowers, Trees, Decor, Builds, Tools, Dyes, Buffs, Travel), and Settings -> Game lets you pick 1 to 3 inventory rows. Journal grids for Sheep, Builds, and Items now match the Flowers layout across screen sizes.

Flock formation Tap your bellwether, then the bell thought, to cycle your flock's formation (scattered, circle, triangle, line, square) AND your choice is remembered for next time you play.

Golden Clover shortcuts (new in v0.2.1)

  • Skip a resting flock's breeding cooldown early for Golden Clover (scales with hours left, clamped 20 to 100 GC), offered right from the breed-confirm modal or the flock book's resting panel.
  • Side treks can now be unlocked early for 5 Golden Clover instead of waiting out the 6h post-claim cooldown, same slot UI as the reroll button for those that cannot get enough to complete treks!
  • Treks now auto-open and scroll straight to whichever trek just became claimable, playing the usual collect sfx - so you cannot miss to claim it.

Subscribe & claim The subscribe/claim prompt is now a single unified modal -> no prompt on your very first Flocklands arrival, then it shows once after the tutorial and once per game start until you Join & Claim. Toggling notifications off in settings is possible ofc.

Breeding fixes

  • Breeding now goes strictly by a sheep's real wool color, not oil grime -> an oiled sheep only looks black, but was being bred as if it were. Also shown in the modal now if its oiled.
  • Breed-confirm now always breeds the exact sheep shown in the popup, even if you quickly swap your lead sheep right before confirming. (yep, that was an issue!)
  • Breeding no longer mints a plain Shetland when the server can't resolve the "great match" partner the confirm modal promised -> it now rejects the pairing without blocking the breeding.
  • Barn rebuild grace before overcrowded-flock runaway trims resume is now 24h (was 6h).

Ambience & world

  • Sheep in view now occasionally bleat on their own -> a floating "baa!" and a sfx.
  • Oil lakes creep back faster: the re-oiling batch now runs daily (was every 2 days) and restores ~50% of each region's cleared lake tiles (was ~20%).
  • All "meadow" biomes now always have build spots unlocked.

Quality of life & fixes

  • Exiting someone else's home meadow no longer white-flashes back into your own pasture.
  • Fixed sheep clientside sync after trading with Hildegard.
  • Fixed a tutorial soft-lock.
  • Fixed inn and shop occasionally not showing up on certain builds.
  • Added a new visit trek for visiting others (rather than only being visited).
  • Bumped devvit to 0.14.0.
  • Fixed "Share a Moment" quest not progressing when sharing without opting to include your location. Thank you for reporting this!!!
  • Balanced shovel power.
  • Temporarily disabled Lend a Hoof and Find the Path treks.

That's it for this batch! As always, let us me know what you'd like to see more (or less) of in the comments below :-)

Auctions

In the next patch we will change how auctions work.

Instead of each sheep getting its own auction post, the flock will gather in one Auction House. You can list a sheep whenever you like, pick the sheep and a minimum price, and it's held for the next open.

Auction House opens Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 17:00 UTC, runs for 24 hours with one shared timer, and everyone bids from a single post (up to 200 sheep).

You'll only be able to have one listing at a time, but the old 7-day wait is gone, so you can list again as soon as your auction finishes. Once listed, there's no cancelling. Minimum listing prices are also lower. When the house closes, the pinned comment will highlight the top 5 sales.

Existing individual auction posts keep running until they finish. New listings join the Auction House from here on.

Latest Flocklands News Summary 🐑 Baa!

^(v0.1.67 – v0.1.74.)

Here is a somewhat complete list of recent changes for Path of Baa: Flocklands:

Runaway sheep

Sheep that end up overcrowded no longer just vanish - they run away and wander a random unlocked Flocklands region for 14 days. You can go find yours and bring home (costs clover, scales like a revive), and other shepherds who stumble across it can steal it for double (or guide it to the owners home). Your Shepherd's Ledger lists every runaway with its remaining time, and you get a 6 hour grace period to rebuild a barn before anyone runs off.

New critters

Rabbits! 1-3 of them roam meadow regions in 8 colors the way pigs roam forests. Adopted rabbits keep the exact color.

Adopted critters (bee, butterfly, dragonfly, fly, kingfisher, pig, rabbit) now show up in your Home Meadow, permanently.

Tapping a wandering critter no longer swallows the tap - your sheep still move.

Shepherd's Ledger

Adults become Senior after 45 days and Gummer after 90 days. (this does currently have no effects)

Every sheep list has a tap-to-cycle sort wheel -> Alphabetical / Age / Color / Breed, and it remembers your settings.

Treks & rewards

Finished treks now open a claim popup showing the actual sheep you received - real portrait, real breed, real given name (no more generic bag chip for random rewards).

"Berry Picky" on the Path of Baa Trek now scales with your flock.

Mushrooms

Red speed mushrooms can be multi-fed - tap the sheep again and the duration stacks up to 10 minutes.

Green and gold yield mushrooms must be fed to your bellwether. Same color stacks duration (max 10m); a different color is rejected while one is still running.

Weather

Thunder nights now reach your Home Meadow too - rain, lightning and storm SFX, in your own meadow and when visiting others. Lethal lightning strikes still only happen out in the Flocklands, so meadows stay safe.

Thunder nights also got a visual pass: layered animated rain plus ground splash particles.

Home Meadow

Upgrading your meadow no longer reshuffles your berry bushes.

Expanding no longer regenerates oil lakes or cleared open-water tiles either.

Breeding

Visiting another meadow now keeps remote sheep wool color and breed in sync, so a dyed sheep can't fake a "great match" anymore.

Survival ticking (predators) is paused during the mating cinematic, and sheep no longer get stuck in gates or fences afterwards.

Quality of life

Predators, lethal thunder and other combat deaths are frozen while any modal is open or a Reddit gold checkout is up - no more losing sheep off-screen while you're in a menu.

Flocks that lost their bellwether now self-heal automatically.

Sheep names now allow ø/Ø and single spaces between words.

Fixed the virtual joystick getting stuck ignoring all touches after closing a modal mid-drag, plus general camera improvements.

------

I hope you like the newest changes! And that's it for now!

If you have any ideas or thoughts on what you'd like to see more or less of, let me know in the comments below :-)

One more thing to mention. It is summer! We'll be taking a break to add more visual features and continue (hopefully with a little funding) end of August to fill most biomes (paths, ground, animals, trees, flowers, etc) with a unique style and new elements that are exclusive per region.

For the following weeks, I plan to adjust smaller bits and pieces like balancing, feedback, and other QoL improvements to make the game feel smoother.

Baa-ya'll! Thank you and have a great summer!

Which land animal (equivalent to the current in forest) should we put in Wasteland in the future? (also as an adoptable for your home meadow)

Latest Flocklands News Summary 🐑 Baa!

Happy Day Everyone! Weekend patch is here!

Here is a somewhat complete list of recent changes for Path of Baa: Flocklands:

New critters :-)

  • Fly, dragonfly, and kingfisher have joined bees and butterflies as biome-specific ambient critters to spot and adopt.
  • Adopted critters (bee, butterfly, fly, dragonfly, kingfisher, duck, pig) now move into your Home Meadow for good - tap them any time to see who they are, no cap on how many you keep. Any adoption supports Path of Baa directly for 50% of the real money spent. (and I am forever grateful for the support!)

Sheep Auction House updates

  • Your Home Meadow Auction menu now shows your own running auction right there -> portrait, time left, current top bid, and a button straight to the post.
  • Starting an auction now needs at least 7 living sheep in your flock, and the cooldown between auctions is a flat 7 days.
  • Auction meadow scenes are fully quiet now (no more annoying feed poof sounds)

World events

  • New: weekly-turned-monthly Oil Spillage event - regions get fully re-oiled on a schedule (your Home Meadow is always spared), with a world-chat heads up once it's done. Currently runs every 3 weeks.

Tutorial & new players

  • Tutorial is shorter and snappier overall, with a new step teaching you to park your home wagon properly.
  • The starter kit now includes a bronze shovel and 2 showers, tutorial showers build instantly.
  • Squashed a couple of tutorial soft-locks and race conditions (nametag getting stuck, double-granting a gift sheep).
  • Predators now wait 5 seconds before appearing after dark, giving you a beat to get settled.
  • You can no longer paint flowers in someone else's meadow.

Home meadow & building

  • Home Meadow upgrades no longer accidentally bulldoze your oldest builds to make room.
  • Build caps raised: Home Meadow now holds up to 4,000 non-flower builds (flowers separately capped at 1,200).
  • New: Message Signs -> place one, write whatever you like, and visitors can read it. Cheap to place and shows up in world chat too.
  • "Find the path" regions that could get stuck now self-heal and do not have invisible path tiles anymore.

Grazing & predators

  • Horned sheep (bighorn/longhorn/mountain/highlander) now actually charge in and fight off predators near them instead of standing around waiting (race condition with grazing and moving your bellwether)
  • Predator "Tap!" hint particles are calmer and slower now - less panicky, easier to read.
  • Daily graze item guarantee is now split between day and night separately, so you're never stuck waiting through a whole day/night cycle without a drop.
  • Slightly higher chance of thunder and drought.

Quality of life

  • Location-based treks (like "plant a flower here") are now closer to where you actually live.
  • Big builds now ask you to confirm placement before committing.
  • Your task list shows exact counts left (flowers, trees, etc.) instead of vague progress.
  • Regional shops now play a little door chime when you enter and a different one when you leave.
  • Hovering an item now shows its name (desktop/cursor only).
  • Fixed a visual glitch with sheep zig-zagging near bears, a teleporter exit-point bug, a desktop big-screen scaling issue, and a memorial popup always showing a Shetland portrait no matter the sheep's real breed.

I hope you like the newest changes! And that's it for now!

If you have any ideas or thoughts on what you'd like to see more or less of, let me know in the comments below :-) In the meantime, I am slating concept work for more diverse biomes - flowers, trees, ground, paths, water animal (duck-ish, frogs, ...), ... and so on!
