new tonex setup - new user questions

Hi all, I am strictly a player at home. I have a few pedals and a few amps I mess around with. I would like to get the Tonex for the Van Halen packs.

I read here a while back that using a Tonex as a pedal with an amp is a less than ideal situation. So, if I want to go stereo, how does this setup look. Will there be any issues with getting good quality sound all the way around?

  1. two new Fender FR10 in stereo

  2. Tonex (full sized version)

and then that should sound good with all of the VH models and then it appears I can hook up all my drive pedals before the tonex and then modulation after the tonex and everything should play nicely together?

Did a quick search and think I found that pedals play nicely with the tonex so I'm hoping if I just pick up a couple of the FR10's for stereo, that will solve all of the issues with using a Tonex with an amp? Do I just pick a nice clean amp model in the Tonex when I want to use my pedals?

In the past, I really just have all pedals go to an amp input.

Dining credit worked at the bar charge but not at the restaurant

We went out for the $150 dining credit this past weekend. The charge at the bar rang up as the restaurant name and was credited back immediately after it posted.

however, the much bigger charge, rang up differently as "BILT" after the restaurant name. I called Chase and she opened a ticket for the backend group to see what they can do. I do know the server at the table use one of the portable card payment systems.

CSR said to wait 1-2 billing cycles. My particular issue is that I am right on the edge of whether this card makes sense. Any major hiccup with credit just will make it not worth it for me. I just renewed last month so I'm really hoping we can get this ironed out quickly so I have a chance to perhaps get some of that annual fee back if they flake out on this credit.

Mud ring? Install in metal box?

We have some metal boxes in the garage and I'd like to install a few lutron switches.

Went to both home depot and Lowes trying to figure this out and came home with a deeper metal box (good) but a plastic cover. Not happy with that arrangement.

The metal covers I have would mean the switch would need it seriously get trimmed to fit.

I'm now at home reading that a mud ring may help with this? Is this the right way to go? Does anyone happen to have a Pic of how all that fits together?

is it ill-advised to order kitchen cabinets if you haven't finalized hood vent cover design?

We are down to bare walls and are redoing the entire kitchen. We have about finished the cabinet design, however, have not been able to find a range good cover that we like thru where we are ordering the cabinets.

We will have a pro-level 48" range and do not particularly like the (non-covered) stainless hood vent, so were going to go for some type of cabinetry with a hood vent insert. However, we are being pushed to order the cabinets and deal with the hood vent cover later.

This makes me really nervous and I'm just not thinking this is a good move, however, I don't know what the next best option is, outside of picking something from the cabinet place that we really aren't in love with. Also don't want to hold up the cabinet order, either, as we really need to get this going.

Floating engineered wood floor? vs nail/glue down?

Hi, we have just purchased 7.5" wide engineered flooring. The manufacturer allows both floating install and nail with glue install. Contractor is saying they prefer floating and wife is saying floating too, as it includes an underlayment.

This would be on 2nd level with plywood subfloor. Most everything I read says nail with glue is the way to go. While I agree floating install is def easier to replace damaged boards, I'm not sure its a "premium" install process.

Anyone have any thoughts on one install method versus another?

phone with installment plan, what's the best way to keep credits and get a new phone?

Hi all, we currently have a iphone 16 on a free-after-credits installment plan. There's like $400 left on it to pay.

We would like to get another phone with more storage. What's the best way to go from the existing phone to buy a new one, while at the same time not risking the monthly credits coming in?

engineered wood flooring install question - glue? underlayment?

Hi, we just purchase some of this:

https://www.norwoodhill.com/product/engineered-hardwood-plank-imperial/

I called the manufacturer for some advice about install but all they would tell me is check the documentation.

So reading that, you can apparently nail, glue or float this floor. We do not want to float so I guess I'm unsure between just nail down or a glue-assisted nail down.

Documention says "NOTE: Nailing planks wider than 7.5” without a full spread adhesive will void all warranties. Nail down installation is not recommended for 7.5" or wider planks."

Since we have 7.5" planks, they are saying we should use glue correct? This is in addition to nailing I assume?

Does the glue take the place of underlayment? Or are they both somehow used? Our contractor will be installing this, but I just want to do my own due dilligence before hand. Contractor is sending me several underlayment options, so just trying to figure all this out before we start.

HVAC supply that sells to general public?

I am looking for some nicer AC supply and return grills, something a step up from the HD/Lowes store. Someone suggested an HVAC supply store. Any recomendations for something in St. Pete or Tampa that will sell to a homeowner?

new HVAC return and supply grills - what's a good step up from builder grade?

We just replaced our AC system, new unit and ducting and all that. I would like something perhaps a step up from the builder grade stuff at the big box stores. Is there anything you've found that looks like a nice step up?

I googled a bit and nothing major stood out at me. a few wood grill options but those weren't cheap.

Not sure if I'm happy with Hue Par38

hi group, I have had 8 outdoor color Par38 lights from LIFX and have been mostly happy with them. The colors and scenes are nice. The only downside is the very occasional disconnnect where I have to add the light back into the app.

I went crazy last week and got the Hue Pro hub and 8 Hue Par38 bulbs during their sale. My main driver for this was to get the LIFX bulbs off wifi. I think I'm probably in for $600 for all of this.

I installed 2 of the Hue bulbs and first thing noticed you can see the 5-6 individual LED clusters. they dont look very good to me. With the LIFX, it seemed to be one color coming out of the lens, as opposed to multiple smaller lights.

The LIFX are also brighter (1600 vs 1300 lumen) but that one is on me for not checking first. But I'm having 2nd thoughts about spending all that money to help free up Wifi. I was excited to get into the Hue ecosystem but just not sure I did the right thing.

Any thoughts or comments?

have 14-50, need Tesla charger

Hi all, I had a Wrangler PHEV and a Grizzle EV charger hooked up via nema 14-50 and charged the Jeep and a Tesla 3 (via the nacs adapter).

I don't have the Wrangler anymore and the EV Charger stopped working so they replaced it under warranty but for some reason multiple NACS adapters do not work with the replacement charger. they refuse to replace it again.

So we have a 14-50 receptacle, no charger and need to charge a Tesla 3.

The most economical way appears to be the Tesla mobile charger, which includes a 14-50 adapter. I have also read that hard wiring is ideal, but I'm wondering what that really gets us in this case?

The setup is a subpanel in the garage with the 14-50 outlet about 12" away. I think I could use the metal box that the 14-50 is in as a junction box and hardware a new charger, but again, trying to figure out what benefit that gets us to hardware a charger over the Tesla mobile charger?

No problem charging the Tesla overnight, I think you can probably get a pretty solid charge 8-9 hours overnight at 40amp. Is the only reason to hardware so we could go up to 48amp and maybe a little faster charging?

Will the Tesla mobile charger hold up to being the only charger in the household?

how do cabinet wrapped hood vents work?

Hi, we are in the planning stages of a kitchen remodel and want to get a hood vent and also cabinets to cover it.

Do we install a "normal" full hood vent and blower system and then the cabinetry is wrapped around/over it?

Or do you install the cabinetry and just the minimal guts of the venting system are installed inside of that?

Does anyone know what happened to the St. Pete Community Info Facebook group? There were some good posts, in there, I thought. I went to look for it the other day and seems to be totally gone.

Anyone know anything?
