Used CAA for ITIN and IRS wants passport
I'm a US Citizen and wife is in Vietnam. We applied for an ITIN for her when I was there. Sent all her documents and our joint tax return to the CAA so they could process it and send to the IRS.
I got a request for information letter today from the IRS saying they need the original passport or a certified copy from the issuing agent. We sent the CAA in her country her passport and they had it for a month. Why is this necessary? What do I do next? I'm back in the USA, so I don't have her passport. I thought the whole point of paying big bucks to the CAA was so they would handle all of this?
It's the job of the CAA to handle the passport portion and now the letter says they need the passport and said to send it when it already was handled.
