Throwback to an interview of this weekend’s injury-replacement and wild-card riders Iker Lecuona (age 15) and Augusto Fernández (age 18) in the FIM CEV Repsol Moto2 European Championship together, around a decade ago, with footage of them riding
Since this video only has 428 views at the time of my posting it here, I reckon that not that many people will have seen it before.
You can see Iker’s size for his age, and his size compared to some of the other riders on their Moto2 bikes, which is why he went straight onto Moto2 bikes, and never raced Moto3 bikes, which he was too big for - you can see that he’s taller than the mechanics next to him in his team. You can also see Iker’s teeth design on his helmet back then, and the Luis Salom tribute sticker on his helmet, since this is from not long after Luis passed away.
Iker and Augusto rode for different teams. Augusto started riding, and they both started racing, a bit later than some other riders who got to MotoGP level did. This video is from their rookie year in the FIM CEV Repsol Moto2 European Championship. You can see Augusto’s bunny mascot logo. The interview asks them about their origins and their training.
