Resolution changing when game launches

Well this is weird.

I’m playing Crusader Kings 3, streaming PC to PC. Both PCs are plugged in to 4K HDR displays.

Weird thing was happening - on the client, once the game’s launched I could only move the cursor in the top left quarter of the screen. I went up to the host and the resolution of the display had changed to 1080. I change it back to 4k and it’s sorted. Until next time I launch, and the same thing happens.

I fixed it by changing the hosts streaming resolution setting from “match client” to “default”. This suggests somehow the host was getting the message from the client that its resolution was 1080. I’m guessing it’s to do with the launcher (I hate game launchers).

Anyone else had this? This is exactly the sort of thing I really think Valve should focus on, to make Remote Play a seamless experience. People aren’t going to afford Steam Machines as second gaming PCs to play from the couch, what we need is a great quality, low setup, low maintenance streaming system.

Now imma look for a bug report tool on Steam, unless anyone has a link already?

Recruit terrain specialist bug

All of what?

I’m trying to recruit a Dry Terrain Specialist (lot of dry terrain in Africa), but it’s greyed out, says “All of these:” followed by nothing.

Only one that’s available is Hill Specialist.

I’ll report this on the bug forum, but in the meantime anyone know what the requirements are?

If I find the answer I’ll update here.

Maybe Remote Play will get some love now

So the prices have been announced for Steam Machine 2026. It’s expensive and pretty weak hardware.

Therefore, people may conclude that hey, they already have a powerful gaming PC at their desk, why don’t they just stream from that to their TV?

And if users think that, maybe Valve will also decide it’s worth revisiting, and will polish the user experience so I don’t have to turn on the host PC’s displays and launch the game on the host before connecting to it remotely if I want a smooth experience.

Maybe they’ll even release a general hardware version of Steam OS with a specially tailored lower-level streaming implementation that runs even better than something they can do purely at the level of the Steam client.

Hey, a boy can dream.

Anyone else wish the games made noises when you unlock an area?

You know the “*diddle iddle iddle ah du*” in Zelda? Like that, but Star Warsy.

How do I find this item in Devastated Settlement

I assume I need to get the beam to hit the mess it’s stuck in on the wall, but I can’t get the beam through the big glass panel behind me.

Looked in a guide and it doesn’t seem to mention this one.

Anybody know hot you get it?

Update: solved, thanks guys. Was dependant on an ability I would unlock shortly after.

Let’s spare a moment to appreciate Tom

In most TV programmes the everyman main character is pretty boring, and it’s a detriment to a lot of otherwise great shows in my opinion. Tom manages to not be.

That’s it. That’s all I wanted to say.

Anyone else find the War in Heaven really tedious nowadays?

Since the latest economy changes it just feels like such a slog. It’s a galaxy wide war, which means soooooo many planets to invade, it just drags on and on.

If you like to play Stellaris as a militarist campaigner then I guess that’s what you’re into, but if that’s not generally how you play then you’re suddenly obliged to. I think it’s a bit much.

I’m not sure what’s causing it, I think the FE ships are just too good at emergency FTL. Their economy is pathetic, but their navy is constantly overwhelming, despite all the battles I win.

If I didn’t have Head of Zarqlan I think I’d be screwed.

I mean it’d be handy wouldn’t it, it’d make a nice charging experience (and would free up a USB C port), but they’d have had to think ahead and ensure the Puck can deliver considerably more power than the Controller needs.

What do people think? Likely? Unlikely? Desirable? Not really interested?
