Thank you for the Support: What's Next for DS4Windows 5

Hi all. Thank you for all the support on DS4Windows 5! What's next for this program?

First off, huge shout out to you guys. Without the massive amount of testing and logs, we would never have a program that runs as well as this one does. While there are bugs, we are working on them, and still need as much help as we can get. So continue being amazing.

For the future. I think we need to revamp VIIPER with its own USB Bus like Nefarious had for DS4Windows. I am working on a Backend: You can check my progress at https://github.com/hbashton/VIIPER/tree/feature/native-udecx-bus - but I would like to say, I am not sure how long it will be before I release this fully. It costs $200-$500 per year to sign driver packages, so I am just test-signing right now.

I believe this will bring latency WAY down, much closer to HIDMaestro, ViGEmBus, and other implementations of the same Virtual Gamepad Windows 10/11 protocol. I am excited for this next step, and hope I can continue to count on you guys to test my drivers (seeing as they are unsigned)! I will go out of my way to test them myself, ensuring no crashes, and you can look forward to releases in the coming 1 or 2 months!

It has been a pleasure working on this project for you all. I'll continue to pump out new updates, and work on a stable branch while also providing updates on the native USB bus for VIIPER. I will not release any drivers until they are tested on a machine, with a real Dualsense, Dualshock 4, and Nintendo Switch Pro controller and Joycons. That will have to wait until the coming months. So don't get too excited yet!

Edit: my original goal was to make sure that you could use a Dualsense on Windows 11 without Audio or Haptics feature loss from the original PS5, all over Bluetooth. My new goal: do that, but at sub 1ms latency. This will require custom driver packages, so I am basically saying there may be fewer updates over the coming weeks...not to dishearten any one of you, but to encourage you to get excited. I am working hard on PS5 controller development, as well as ensuring I don't lose the Switch and PS4 controller lovers along the way.

DS4Windows 5.0 - Release Candidate 4.3 is out

I addressed (most) of your installation concerns

Viiper now installs to ProgramFiles, but it CAN be run from anywhere. If you can’t figure out how to make it auto start from AppData, and update it manually, I can’t help you. The tools are there.

Hopefully, the All-In-One installer goes a little bit smoother for some of you this time

Enjoy

DS4Windows 5 – Release Candidate 4.1 is out! Lower latency, major bug fixes, and a safer installer 🎮

Hey everyone! RC 4.1 is now available.

This update focuses heavily on responsiveness, stability, and making installation less painful:

  • Lower-latency DualSense input, advanced haptics, audio, and vibration
  • More reliable rumble and native game feedback
  • Fixed rapid profile switching, Auto Profiles, and two-finger swipe issues
  • Improved per-app audio capture and Audio Haptics recovery
  • Fixed several startup and profile-transition crashes
  • Safer offline installer with VIIPER 0.0.8 and USB-IP 0.9.7.7 included
  • Better installation diagnostics, repair handling, and race protection

The installer includes everything required, with HidHide and FakerInput available as optional checkboxes.

This is still a prerelease, so feedback is extremely valuable—especially regarding controller audio, haptics, game compatibility, and installation. If something breaks, please include your logs and reproduction steps!

DS4Windows 5.0 RC4 “The Parity Patch” is out — new UI, DualSense audio/haptics, Trigger Lab, and an all-in-one installer

Hey everyone — DS4Windows 5.0.0.0 Release Candidate 4, The Parity Patch, is now available to try.

This is a major update focused on making DS4Windows feel modern and approachable without taking away the deep configuration options advanced users rely on. It also significantly expands what physical DualSense and DualShock 4 controllers can do over Bluetooth.

What’s new

  • A redesigned, controller-focused interface with clearer navigation, quick profile controls, search, improved controller maps, and dedicated Audio Haptics and Trigger Lab pages.
  • DualSense and DualShock 4 speaker, headset/AUX, and microphone support through Windows audio endpoints.
  • Improved speaker and AUX streaming, reconnection behavior, persistent per-controller audio endpoints, and lower-latency feedback handling.
  • Better compatibility with PC games using native DualSense features, including advanced haptics, adaptive triggers, lightbar state, player LEDs, speaker audio, and regular rumble.
  • Audio Haptics can transform system audio or an individual application into DualSense haptic feedback.
  • Trigger Lab provides per-trigger effects, presets, linked or split editing, and optional rumble-to-trigger feedback.
  • VIIPER-powered Xbox 360, DualShock 4, DualSense, DualSense Edge, and Switch controller emulation.
  • Profile, automatic-profile, startup, updater, and controller-reconnection improvements.

A much easier installation

The release includes a new all-in-one x64 installer. It installs DS4Windows, VIIPER 0.0.7, and the supported USB/IP components, with optional HidHide and FakerInput installation. It also handles startup registration and verifies the required components for you.

Portable users can still download the ZIP instead.

Download

Release page: https://github.com/hbashton/DS4Windows/releases/tag/VIIPERRC4.1

  • Standard installation: DS4Windows_5.0.0.0_Setup_x64.exe
  • Portable installation: DS4Windows_VIIPER_x64.zip

This is still a release candidate, so feedback is genuinely useful. If you try it, please mention your physical controller, connection type, emulated controller, game/application, and any relevant DS4Windows logs when reporting a problem.

I’d especially love feedback on:

  • DualSense and DualShock 4 Bluetooth audio
  • Native DualSense game features
  • Audio Haptics and per-app audio capture
  • Trigger Lab
  • Xbox 360 and other virtual-controller compatibility
  • The new installer and redesigned UI

There has been a huge amount of work behind this release. If you’ve wanted a more modern DS4Windows with deeper PlayStation controller support, this is the build I’d love for you to try.

Thanks to everyone testing builds, reporting bugs, and helping push the project forward.

Who's Ready for Dualshock 4 Bluetooth Speaker/Microphone support and backwards compatibility with Dualsense emulation and Speaker in-game?

Well? Y'all ready? Planned release tonight or tomorrow. New UI sneak peek here

u/huunnnter — 1 month ago

I JUST GOT MICROPHONE WORKING ON DS4WINDOWS. EXPECT AN UPDATE TO THE VIIPER BETA LATER TODAY

Edit: the DUALSENSE microphone now works with Windows 11, no Pico 2w Needed

I LOVE YOU GUYS. I AM ALSO GOING TO REDO THE UI. I AM SO TIRED OF PEOPLE NOT ENABLING THIS CONTROLLER ON WINDOWS. SAY HELLO TO THE FUTURE BOYS.

Reason I haven't released yet: the audio is too loud. I'm adding RNNoise suppression and some other fluff so it works out of the box with discord and stuff. ALSO. You guys are going to love the new UI. FUCK paying for your controller to work, we are eating good tonight! Talking to ChatGPT on your controller anyone?

EDIT: HERE YOU GO https://www.reddit.com/r/DS4Windows/comments/1uz6ppn/release_ds4windows_for_dualsense_controllers/

DS4Windows Update is Here! Download the Beta now and test the new features, *Bluetooth Advanced Haptics*, *Bluetooth Audio* (including Headset Audio)

and more! Download here.

To enable Bluetooth Audio to your Dualsense controller, make sure you have a Dualsense selected as the virtual controller you are emulating, then enable controller audio and select the audio source you prefer. For game audio, select the Speakers (Wireless Controller) (Game Audio) source, if you want sound effects like in Ghost Of Tsushima. For advanced haptics, it will work automatically as long as you are a real dualsense controller emulating a dualsense, and the game supports advanced haptics.

Edit: Just tested in Assassin's Creed Shadows. Finally. A good couch experience.

DS4Windows Update - Dualsense Wireless Emulation Upgrade Coming Soon

NEW BETA RELEASE HERE:

https://www.reddit.com/r/DS4Windows/comments/1uennrc/ds4windows_update_is_here_download_the_beta_now/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Just got the Dualsense Speaker working wirelessly without any latency or pops: also works in game.

Tested Ghost of Tsushima and Spotify: both recognize and can stream to the controller. In game, drawing the Bow produces the Bow Draw sound effect over the controller speaker.

Mute button can now function as a profile switcher: have profile A, B, and C all tied to the mute button, and switch between them as if they were a linked list.

Advanced Haptics now work wirelessly.

Next feature is microphone: that would mean you could launch Copilot (for Gaming) or Discord from Gamebar, and instantly speak into the controller and receive feedback from the controller, or talk to your friends like you were in PS5 Partychat!

(basically, this is now going to be a free version of DSX. Enjoy, update coming in a couple hours or a couple days. Fine tuning now. Check Github for progress)

DS4Windows 4.0.0 - Auto-Updates, First Non-Beta Release, Feature update

DS4Windows 4.0.0 (Edit: 4.0.2)

This is the first stable release of the revived hbashton DS4Windows fork. No beta label, no discontinued upstream messaging, and update checks now point at the maintained hbashton releases.

Highlights

  • Added window-title-only Auto Profile rules.
  • Added duplicate Auto Profile support with per-device matching.
  • Added Game Bar profile support with priority over Auto Profiles while Game Bar is visible.
  • Added DualSense adaptive trigger settings.
  • Fixed full-pull trigger actions.
  • Improved Auto Profiles UI sizing for long executable paths.
  • Retargeted DS4Windows update checks to hbashton/DS4Windows.
  • Retargeted updater bootstrap to hbashton/DS4Updater.
  • About/build metadata now reports 4.0.0.
  • Simplified tray title
  • Merged Bluetooth Lightbar fixes from anagnorisis2peripeteia

Notes

Users on older builds may need to manually update DS4Updater.exe once. Put the latest DS4Updater.exe beside DS4Windows.exe, then future update checks should use the hbashton updater path automatically. Download the new updater here, and place it in your %LOCALAPPDATA%/DS4Windows Folder IF IT EXISTS (if you don't have a %LOCALAPPDATA% Folder for DS4Windows, then the Updater will work automatically, because you have the portable version)

DS4Windows Schmaldeo Rewrite - https://github.com/hbashton/DS4Windows/

Hi all! I am a long time developer, just releasing this on the side to the community.

I added a configuration profile to change which Profiles DS4Windows will choose when using the 2 finger swipe gesture option, so that you can better fine tune your custom experience! This also allows a user to have endless Auto Profiles for specific games, while also having a couple that work everywhere, all independently.

I also fixed the duplication glitch that happens when using Moonlight Virtual Controller Support. I did this by saving the UUID of each controller DS4Windows creates, and referencing that list each time a controller is scanned for so that DS4Windows does not readd a controller it has already created. It is shocking to me this was not already done. I am also working on a feature to add the ability to choose which device type (Joycon, Switch Pro, DS4, or Dualsense) a profile should be for. If the device is connected, and a game is being played with an auto profile for everything AND an auto profile for that specific device, DS4Windows will not (break) but will switch to the profile FOR THAT DEVICE, FOR THAT GAME. This will add some overhead, but should be minimal.

The hope is that this program can be used to fine tune an experience on a HTPC or Game Console PC using Steam or Playnite Fullscreen, for users who like to use Switch Pro controllers, Joycons, and Playstation controllers, this program has been great. It's my hope to keep it great in 2026.

(Also, I did use Claude to code this. So, if you want to look at my commits, note that I passed along a series of very specific instructions to Claude to get this done, and I had it check for edge cases and tested some myself)
