Flying with "bike parts"

I like folding bikes. They're fun to ride, nimble and compact to store and travel with. I'll be flying off to Japan with my trifold Cranston safely packed away in its flightcase. There's a not-zero chance that I could be tempted into buy another vintage folding bike while in Japan. Bringing it home would be the issue as airline's (Westjet) own rules only allow "one bicycle and helmet per person".

The particular style of folding bikes I have in mind would fit into a regular suitcase if completely disassembled into its component parts, frame included. If I were to spread the parts between two checked suitcases, would that still count as a second "bicycle", or just "bicycle parts"? There would be some parts I could place in my actual bicycle's flightcase, so the the parts in the checked suitcases wouldn't actually be a complete bicycle...

Anything to avoid paying $300-500 in freight charges to ship a second bike back to Canada.

Has anyone attempted to fly with a suitcase full of a disassembled bicycle and not had to pay the usual bicycle luggage fee?

It fits!

My Cranston C9 mostly fits…

  • the saddle will need to be taken off the short seatpost
  • handle bars need to be removed from the stem the grips the also removed from the handlebars as the ergonomic grips stick out too much
  • the pedals should be taken off as the right pedal prevents the suitcase from closing, and the left pedal sticks out too much. I may consider swapping to quick release pedals, instead

But it fits the B&W Foldon suitcase!

Where to buy sun-blocking sleeves and gloves in Calgary?

Suggestions for where to buy sun-blocking sleeves and gloves in Calgary?

I'd prefer to be able try things on rather than buying online and hoping for the best.

Other options than Access-A-Ride for wheelchair users?

I'm still new to navigating the system, so bear with me. My elderly father is in a care home and is in a wheelchair. and has an appointment next week but Access-A-Ride has no openings available.

Are there private services that offer the same type of service for transporting a person in a wheelchair to and from appointments. I would be accompanying my father.

Looking for a better rear rack for Cranston S9

I would like to get a different rear rack for my Cranston S9 instead of the original 'V' shaped rack. I'd like something with a more rectangular shape? Any recommendations for racks that fit?
