The acid trip part

This show is full of esoteric 'gags' and symbolism. So I'm wondering how much is packed into this end scene.

I'm really curious if there's anything behind the part where there are 3 doors, and the universe/world keeps entering through doors, which then leads to a weird place with an egg, and a raining umbrella.

I would have taken this as a gag, as the show is very satirical and will mix in random symbols that don't actually mean anything, however the checkered black/white flooring is clearly freemason symbology, so I'm wondering what else has merit to it, and isn't just "random". Thankyou!

I need help!! My music sounds horrible

I've had reaper for a few years, want to make guitar songs (mostly metal, sometimes soft)

I'm stuck in a phase where everything just sounds like shit and it's absolutely killing my creativity, any time I think of a cool riff and play it out, it just sounds like ass, and I KNOW if these albums I like, played the exact same thing with different production, it would sound sick.

So here's where I'm stuck, I've spent $300 on different NueralDSP guitar tones trying to get the right sound. Ill make 2 guitar tracks, pan them left and right, then ill record a bassline over it with a real bass and some more plugins to make it sound nicer, then I use the free krimh drums pack for midi-drums.

Now - it sounds like what it is, 2 guitar tracks, a bass, and some artificial drums, and it just sounds SHIT. It's too robotic and has no atmosphere, basically, it doesn't actually sound like a band playing, it just sounds like shit. So I've lost all drive to make music because it sounds like ass, but then ill listen to an album and wish I could create that sound.

So what's the aspect of production that I'm missing? How do I make my tracks sound real and live, and not like just some shitty stems stacked on-top of each other.

Here's a short example of things sounding extremely flat - although I don't have any "nice" creations to share, as the mix discourages me from doing anything more than 1 riff at a time then closing the DAW in frustration.

Edit: Thankyou all for sharing your knowledge/wisdom it's super appreciated!

Random question for photographers on infrared light

Hello,

I just got a RLT panel and it sent me down a rabbit-hole of understanding the spectrums of light. Now it had me curious, say this panel can emit NIR that is invisible to the human eye. Is there any type of photography that could capture the NIR light that's being emitted from it?

Or would it just end up looking like a blurry heat signature or bright patch?

I thought it'd be really cool if someone could capture the invisible light that's actually beaming out, in which you can't see with your eyes.

Thanks for hearing my silly question!

Origin/Lore of Future Breed Machine(s)?

I'm wondering why there are so many different versions of this song?

You have the original Future Breed Machine

Then you have Future Breed Machine (Mayhem Version)

Then there's Futile Breed Machine (Campfire Version)

Then there's Future Breed Machine (Friend's Stealth Remix)

Then Future Breed Machine (Quant's Quantastical O La La) (skip to 3:33, so underrated)

All as official Meshuggah releases. There has to be some significance or lore that surrounds the base of this song, given the amount of remixes. Surely someone out there knows something!

Can you help me analyse this riff? / How are they made?

Sup my shuggians,

Been playing guitar for a while, the basics, want to start exploring "meshuggah-like" sounds. I think they use polymeters instead of polyrhythms, although this is hard to grasp without a strong music-theory/rhythmically educated foundation.

So to copy/understand their sounds, I need to understand... well, what they're doing in the first place.

Take this riff for example. How on earth do they create this? How do they ensure it loops properly so that it's not just "random" playing? Why can't I catch the rhythm no matter how many times I listen?

With my limited knowledge, I THINK they're playing dotted notes, which acts as a polymeter but I'm not sure. To add, my ear is capable of hearing polymeters that resolve, like the riffs in new millenium I can play/hear the different beats and when they cut off, but riffs like the one I mentioned, HOW do you go about creating something so fucking groovy?

Sorry for the rant/blabble type post!

How on Earth do you scream like this?

link

How does one achieve yelling like this? When I try yell, the voice just goes high pitch. These don't sound like false-chords though, sounds like a genuine clear/burly sort of scream. Is this achievable by anyone or do you need a certain vocal composition etc.

The closest I can get is yk when you make that "silly" voice as a kid/or a joke? Where you kinda drop your adams apple/sink your throat and you sound like a cartoon character or whatever. That nails the "burlyness" of the tone, but sounds fuckn stupid obviously

Need help buying a bass & understanding tunings

Hi all,

I record songs at home with guitar. I want to get a cheapish bass just for completing the recordings, without having to use a midi bass. So my purchase is more what can I get away with, that will sound good.

I need a bass that can do the sharp punchy metal sound like this, but then also capable of being soft for standard recordings. Idk how much of this is dictated by the bass itself vs the mix.

I'm also unsure on if I need a 5 or 4 string. I do soft/normal recordings that would suit a normal bass. But then I also record lots of downtuned stuff too, like drop C and sometimes A. That lower end stuff, does that require a 5 string bass? Or do you just downtune a 4? Or is bass still played in standard over that.? Kinda lost here in knowing what I'll need.

I found a second hand YAMAHA TRBX605 going for almost half price, so that might influence my decision on the 5.

The other one I was looking at is a second hand ESP LTD B-10, but google says it doesn't have full active pickups, which I think might be required for the sound I want?

Really appreciate any help, thankyou!
