[Clients] starting sales and thinking carefully of pricing
Hi fellow artists, I’ve gotten a couple of inquiries on a few original pieces and it’s bringing up some interesting feelings.
I do art on the side and don’t intend to make a living out of it because I don’t want to put pressure on something I love to sustain me; I’ve monetized hobbies in the past which ended up burning me out.
I do however want to make a little bit of a name for myself. Having a few exhibitions, selling a few originals, selling prints, connecting with other fellow humans over the themes I like to explore in my paintings. Nothing too grand.
I have gotten inquiries on selling original pieces. I do want to sell some, but I notice an emotional attachment to a lot of them.
I think it makes sense because I’m early in my art career (I’ve drawn/painted for a long time but only got serious about it a year ago).
However, a big chunk of my paintings are part of a 10+ part series and I’m worried that I’d be unable to do an exhibition if they’re sold off to different buyers (although I will have prints made of them).
Also I’m trying to be very careful with the pricing of my originals. I’m heeding the advice “how much $ would parting with this piece make you feel good about it?”
If you’ve been in my shoes, is there any advice you could provide?
