Orktober Day 4: So much detail work.

Now we get into the real meat of the model. Endless details. Every panel getting shading. All the greeblies getting their own color and effect. This is going to be my life for the rest of the month. Slowly going insane as I shade panel after panel after panel.

I’ve left his big jaw off for now. I have a couple ideas about what to do with it, but for now I need to be able to access underneath.

Every 2028 passport will include a photo of Trump. Renew before then to avoid the embarrassment.

Banners Nob WIP. Still need to figure out how to properly Orkify the ‘umie banner.

I’m thinking a boot print over the omega, blood and dirt on all the surfaces. Maybe a big Waaagh symbol painted on?

Did the last update fix sprinter/typewriter syncing?

I have this dream where I can work on typewriter, edit for a bit on computer, and then go back to the typewriter.

But every time I’ve tried this over the last couple of years it basically deletes the file from the typewriter and trying to get it back onto the device has been a fool’s errand.

I haven’t tried yet - I suppose I could test it myself - but has anyone checked to see if the syncing between device and computer works now?

Over a year ago, we crowdsourced the name "Umbral Society" for a potential website.

Well, I finally made it. Thanks to those of you who have sent me polite nudges (and even the ones who sent impolite ones!)

This is still a major work in progress, and I would love to hear people's inputs on what should be included or changed. Any and all input is appreciated.

Please let me know any favorite resources I should link to. For the time being, this site will mostly be a library of resources other people have found or created.

Please also let me know if you'd like to have one or more of your photos hosted there.

This is hopefully going to be a communal project moving forward.

The only thing I won't be able to do right now is add a forum to the site. I'm not super savvy on site-building, and I don't have the budget to set something like that up. If there's call for a forum, that will need to come somewhere down the line.

What are your favorite legendary creatures without any lore?

I'm working on a personal side project where I try to figure out the lore on legendary creatures without published background or flavor text based solely on the cues from their cards.

For example, while [[Gargos, Vicious Watcher]] showed up in a core set and has no published backstory, I can pretty easily place him in the Nessian Woods, south of Setessa, on the plane of Theros.

I'd love to hear any favorite commanders or weird cards that you're itching to learn more about.

Anyone else having trouble with Postbox the last couple of days?

It seems like my connection to the Postbox server, both on computer and on my typewriter is screwed up.

When hitting "send," I get a copy of my document which is up to date as of Wednesday. Nothing I wrote yesterday or today is making it to my email - it's still saved locally on my device, but is not sending. It's weird.

Postbox itself seems to be lagging a couple of hours behind. It is live up to about 2 hours ago, but does not have anything from my most recent writing sprint.

When checking my profile on postbox.freewrite, I am getting a slightly glitched view and my streak is gone (which is fine, I'm not big into gamification).

It honestly feels like Postbox might have had a major influx of users (or even a DDoS attack) and can't keep up with the load, causing everything to be a little bit wonky.

A custom card I made as a child in 2000.

Comically childish and overpowered at the time. But probably unplayable today.

Would anyone even be surprised to see an artifact that says “add infinite mana of every color” that costs 10(B)(B)?

Sent home with a blank red book - what do we do?

We just had our first, and it was, to put it mildly, a nightmare. The hospital was completely overwhelmed, we were saddled with a completely incompetent midwife who seriously endangered our baby's health (we're filing a complaint) and just generally feel awful about the whole experience. So when we were handed our red book and told we could leave - we did immediately.

Now that I am home and going through the documentation, I realize that the whole thing is blank. There's a sticker sheet, but no birth details, no record of the examinations they did before discharging us, no record of the vitamin k shot (which we did have).

Other than a sticker on the front page with a barcode, we have nothing. Is this normal? Is everything just digital now? How concerned should I be?

My favorite piece of memorabilia from back when Magic was “cool” and “edgy”

I like the game more now, but I miss the old “this is a serious game we swear” marketing.

I'm a pedestrian. I have a driver's license but have not owned a car in more than a decade. I will rarely rent a car when I need one to get to a hiking trail. The reason I don't own a car? I have lived in walkable cities for that decade - Washington, D.C.; New York City; and now London.

I am not a cyclist. I never learned to ride a bike since I grew up in an area of the United States that was very car-centric. I have tried a couple of times as an adult to learn, but I haven't enjoyed it, I haven't been good at it, and I like taking the train. Part of why I live in cities is so that I don't have to own a road vehicle - motorized or non.

I don't like cars. But cars I get. They stay in the road, I stay on the sidewalk. When I'm crossing the road, I am cognizant that I am in their space and stay cautious and hyper aware. I've never been hit by a car and I intend to keep it that way.

But bicycles? Man, FUCK bicycles. Bicycles are fast road vehicles. Colliding with a pedestrian will deal a LOT of damage. And cyclists aren't required to have insurance to pay for the injuries they cause to other people.

And many cyclists have convinced themselves that they are the same thing as pedestrians. "Oh look at me, I'm too fragile to be on the road," so they ride at mach fuck down sidewalks and pedestrian footpaths, often on MOTORIZED E-BIKES, with absolutely no regard to the pedestrians that are the only ones that actually have any business being in those spaces.

In the decade that I have been living in cities, I have been run down by cyclists on three separate occasions. One of them hit me so hard that my knee was dislocated with a meniscus tear and I have never fully recovered. The cyclist screamed at me for getting in his way and rode off without acknowledging that he's the one who ran down a woman coming out of a bagel shop. I have a tattoo of his tire rubber burned into my shin.

So yeah. The world needs bike lanes to keep those psychopaths off the sidewalks. I am 100% in favor of bike infrastructure because I never want to deal with a cyclist on the pedestrian footpaths again.

Addendum: Before we get into the "that's a gross over-generalization." I only take issue with you if you're on the footpaths and sidewalks. You stay in the road with all the other high-speed death machines and I will quite happily and respectfully co-exist. My prejudice is against the shitheads, and it means I support you having safe places to ride.
