Tech M&A - how long does an offer last?

Part 1 - https://www.reddit.com/r/private_equity/comments/1u3d94u/comment/os3orqk/

Stupid question of the day, and hypothetical (double emphasis on the hypothetical) - if one is chatting with potential buyers and receives an offer, how long is that offer usually valid for? From research online, deals seem to usually get done within a week. However, from part 1, if the goal is to hire a banker, that takes time. I guess the process is = need to go out > find list of potential relevant bankers to help > interview bankers > interview more > negotiate terms > hire on the banker > start the process(?). Each step could take potentially weeks, just scheduling can take weeks within itself.

I can see this "hire a banker" process that everyone here recommends take many many months. By that time, if I'm a buyer, I'd think this isn't worth my time and my attention move elsewhere

Tech M&A - is there an actual need to hire an investment banking?

Stupid question of the day, and hypothetical - why would a normal silicon valley tech startup that has M&A interest need to hire a banker? I thought it'd be as transactional as buying & selling a house - buyer gives an offer, seller then negotiates the numbers and terms, go back and forth until both come to an agreement or not

//EDIT - thanks everyone for the replies. seems like it's normal, expected, and recommended for reasons I just will not understand. Again, this post was made of curiosity. the end!

What neighborhood noises bother you the most and least?

Random question of the day - examples are kids screaming, loud music, constructions, loud cars, lawn mowers, animals barking, etc

How can I buy a new house in cash if all the funds come from selling current house?

I posted this in another homebuying sub reddit, but they said it should go here, though I think this is less of a finance question and more of a real estate transaction question

Let's say I own, no mortgage, my house A that I can sell easily for $500k (in this example say 100% chance). I want to buy house B that I can buy exactly for $500k too. I want to sell house A and take those funds to buy house B cash. I accept there will be a couple thousand of fees here and there. How does that actually work? Is it even possible?

  • I can't sell house A, I need a place to live. But if I don't sell house A, I can't buy house B. In order to close house B, I need to sell house A first?
  • I can't find a buyer for house A and say I need another month or 2 to close house B? Or I can by paying them rent?

Help - my son can't catch passes in games only

My 2nd grade son is really into basketball, and he's actually pretty good compared to his teammates. However, his biggest flaw is in games, and in games only, he can't catch passes. This has been happening all year

  • When I say he can't catch it, there is some distance. For example, he can obviously catch it if it's just a couple feet or a yard away.
  • Specifically, distance wise, he always misses when it's thrown from top of the key > wing/baseline
  • During practices, they practice passes, all types, all distances, he does fine on
  • When I practice with him 1on1, I pass with force. As an adult, there is some force behind it. He does fine
  • The only other variable I can think of is the ball. During games, they use the Wilson Evolution (microfiber composite). Could this really make a big difference? I am going to buy one

Any advice would be appreciated
