(US) someone tried to scam my boss using my name

my boss got an email from someone pretending to be me asking to switch the bank account that my direct deposit goes to. my boss thought it was me but thankfully she just replied back that i can’t do that through my payroll app and the. scammer just said okay and that they would reach out again after i/they got paid on friday.
nothing has happened but the way they wrote the email sounded like me and they used my preferred name, not my legal name. i’m not sure what if anything i should do about this but i’m kinda freaked out

walking stick(?) found in praying mantis enclosure

i work at a nature center/rescue in Maryland, USA, just outside DC and we have a few native praying mantises. I found this little guy in with one of them today somehow alive. i thought it was a baby Viatnamese walking stick at first because we have those as well, but we’re extremely careful about keeping them contained as they could cause an ecological disaster if they escaped and it looks different than the VWS. It’s in a separate container now with some lettuce so can provide more pics once it gets a little bigger if needed
(apologies for the blurry picture, he’s tiny and my phone camera is scratched)

how do y’all survive the summer

it’s been ungodly hot recently and my heat intolerance is significantly worse now than it was last year. i try to dress for the weather and stay hydrated but i also have to wear compression socks or else my legs feel like lead and i’m more likely to pass out and i look so ridiculous wearing colorful knee high compression socks with shorts. does anyone have tips for staying cool and not looking dumb lol

conflicted feelings…

idk if this is the right sub for this but i am a white gay trans man pretty early in my transition and i’m feeling really conflicted about wanting to assimilate and fit in with other gay man but not wanting to appropriate AAVE. call me the woker but i try to put a conscious effort into not appropriating AAVE as a white person, but it seems like so much of mainstream gay culture is so heavily based on black culture that i’m having trouble navigating this dynamic. i feel so dysphoric when i’m around other (cis) gay men because i feel like they just see me as a straight woman and i really do want to fit in, but i just don’t know how

deadname on certificates

i have a few certifications i’ve gotten and my boss wants to display them on the wall at our salon, but they all have my deadname on them. i would like to be able to display them so it doesn’t look like i’m the only one there that doesn’t know what i’m doing, but i don’t know how to fix the name without it looking obvious. has anyone figured out a solution for something like this?

does your doctor use your preferred name and pronouns?

my primary doctor and her team consistently misgender me and deadname me even in conversations about my testosterone or top surgery referrals etc. when i’ve asked them to note my preferred name and pronouns in my chart they tell me that they’re going based on the information that goes through insurance. i’m just wondering if this is typical for doctors providing gender affirming care

started my dream job today… i hated it

i started what i thought was my dream job today at a rescue/nature center doing animal care and it was so much harder than i thought it would be. it was about 9 hours of work with the trainer helping me and it’s going to be even longer once i’m on my own next week.

i’m supposed to work here three days a week in addition to working three days at my other job. i don’t know if i could handle doing three days of this even without my other job. i know if i don’t back out of something i’m going to end up burnt out and unable to do anything, but i worked so hard to get this job and made so many plans around it that i just don’t know what to do.

edit: i misphrased the title, i didn’t necessarily hate the job but hated having to push through activities that cause my disability to flare up, and i can’t think of any reasonable accommodations that would help

there’s a small colony of feral cats living in the parking lot of a community center near me. i’ve seen four so far and three of them seem to be from the same litter (three little tuxedos). One of the tuxedos has a distended abdomen so I would like to get it medical care. I called animal control but they told me I would have to trap them myself and bring them to their intake facility so that’s what i’m trying to do.

I’ve been feeding them wet food twice a day and one of them is starting to warm up to me but the sick one is still very skittish and runs away when i bring the food.

Does anyone have any advice on trapping the sick one? I have a live trap but I’m worried if I leave it out with food the braver one will go for it and get trapped, and the sick one will get scared away and not want to go near it.

edit: i didn’t see the typo in the title until now but i meant trapping
