canvas tearing if I look at it wrong

I can't figure out how to add more than one picture sorry. But what I did was sew a zip zag stitch which started tearing so folded the hem down and did a straight stitch. I thought I solved it, but when I looked at it after I sat it down for a couple minutes it had ripped 😭🙃😭. It is ripping on the zig zag stitch. I used a denim needle on a sewing machine with cotton poly chord thread. Please ignore the mismatched thread colors, I hate changing bobbins lol. Is this just how canvas works or did I get bad fabric? I got it at a craft thrift store pop up.

my visible mends

nothing super fancy. The heart patch I put on a shirt that says "Love" and came with holes... The gray eclipse shirt I got in 2017 and a got a rip in it. It's not the prettiest mend, but it'll work for now. I realized towards the end I could have done sashiko/boro, but he fabric is quite thin so I imagine I will need to do that at some point anyways. I cut off the sleeves because they are too tight and cutting the sleeves gives me more room in the chest as well.

Image ID:

image 1: red jersey shirt with a gray jersey wonky heart sewn on with crotchet yarn.

image 2: grey tee shirt with cut off sleeves. On the right chest area is a a thin rectangleish shape of pink crotchet yarn that is woven to cover a rip. In the center is a dark grey center surrounded by a rainbow splatter halo. The text at the bottom of the shirt reads "TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE 08.21.2017"

image 3: a close up of the mend, the woven threads are more visible and the overall shape is a bit haphazard. End ID.

help finding shoes?

hello! I have wicked peripheral neuropathy and am struggling with shoes. I can't be barefoot so I have shoes for outside, home, and shower. They are all EVA foam dropped shipped something, the colors all have different feels. My home pair are wearing out, and I need a non neon pair. I bought a black pair from Cloudies (they look exactly the same as the ones I found on amazon, same tread and everything) but they are too hard even after putting them in hot water as they recommended. Unfortunately crocs are too hard for my feet. I don't have the budget to buy and try a bunch of shoes. This is so niche but has anyone had similar issues and found shoes similar to what I'm looking for?

advice on adding depth of flavor?

hello! I made a gardener's pie based on a recipe I saw here. Onions, garlic, fresh rosemary, olive oil, carrots, peas, cauliflower, tomato paste (cooked a bit), lentils, cannelini beans, italian seasoning, paprika, onion and garlic powder, salt and pepper, lemon juice, and flour for thickener. I'm adding mashed potatoes on top tomorrow. My issue is that it's lacking depth of flavor. I can't have soy products. I was going to have sauteed mushrooms with garlic on the side (mushrooms are not liked by everyone).

Is there another way I can add more depth of flavor/savoriness?

dental hygienist shortage?

is there a dental hygienist shortage?? Unity Care adult dental has ONE hygenist. For the whole patient population. It'll be next year when I'll be able to get a cleaning. Is this a shortage of people or more likely a funding shortage? But hey mabye a good job opportunity.
