Web Highlight and Note Taking - Extension [Free]

Web Highlight and Note Taking - Extension [Free]

I built a Microsoft Edge extension for highlighting, annotating and actually coming back to things you read online. I wanted it to be optimized for Gmail and ChatGPT

Therefore, I’ve just launched Highlight Notes on the Microsoft Edge Add-ons Store.

What it does

🟡 Highlight text on almost any webpage
Choose from multiple highlight colours and your highlights stay visible when you return to the page.

📝 Add notes to highlights
Highlight something and attach your own note without leaving the webpage.

Continuous highlighting mode
Turn highlighting on once and keep selecting text. You don’t need to click the extension every time you want to highlight another sentence.

🖱️** Multiple ways to highl**ight
Use the floating highlight controls or the right click menu depending on how you prefer to work.

📌 Note indicators
Highlights with notes are clearly marked so you can quickly find your annotations again.

📚 A proper highlight library
Instead of one enormous list, highlights are grouped by webpage.

You can expand a page to see everything you highlighted there and jump back to the original source.

🔎 Search and colour filtering
Search across saved highlights and notes or filter the library by highlight colour.

💬 Optimised for ChatGPT
Highlight useful parts of long ChatGPT conversations and return to them later instead of trying to remember where something was said.

📧 Optimised for Gmail
Highlight useful parts of emails while keeping them organised with the source.

📄 Full page Export
This is one of the newest features.

From your library you can export the source page together with your highlights and notes.

For ChatGPT, the extension can reconstruct the loaded conversation including the questions, complete answers, highlights and your notes.

It also has specialised extraction for Gmail and normal webpages.

📋 Copy All
Export rich formatted content that can be pasted into apps such as OneNote while keeping the structure, highlights and notes.

🖨️** Save a**s PDF
Generate a clean export and send it through Edge’s normal PDF printing flow.

Even if the original webpage has changed, stored highlights can still be included in the export.

🌧️** Raindrop integration, experimental **beta
There is also experimental Raindrop integration for people who already use Raindrop as part of their bookmarking workflow.

This is still beta, so I’d especially appreciate feedback from anyone who tries it.

Launch offer: all Pro features are FREE for the next 2 weeks

Some of the more advanced features, including full page Export and the experimental Raindrop integration features, are intended to become part of Highlight Notes Pro.

But for the next two weeks, every Pro feature is unlocked for everyone.

No subscription required.

I’d rather let people actually use everything first and tell me what works, what breaks and what they want next.

Early supporters get Lifetime Pro

The extension can be used without donating.

However, anyone who donates to support development during this early launch period will be eligible for Lifetime Pro when the paid version becomes available.

That means no monthly Pro subscription for early supporters.

If you would like to donate via PayPal or Wise, just DM me.

This is simply my way of thanking the people willing to support the project while it is still small.

What I’m working on next

The biggest planned feature is cloud synchronization.

The goal is to let your highlights and notes follow you across devices instead of being tied to one browser installation.

I also want this to enable iOS access, so you can view your highlight library and notes from your iPhone even when you are away from Edge on your computer.

Beyond that, I’ll keep improving the extension based on what people actually find useful.

Try it here

Microsoft Edge Add-ons: [v1.1] . [v1.1.2 pending Microsoft review]
https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/detail/highlight-notes-free/ibnmeahofjjebehlkckddagjmjbbpppe

If you try it, I would genuinely love feedback, especially:

• What feels confusing?
• What feature would make you keep using it?
• Where does highlighting fail?
• How could the library be better?
• What would you expect from Pro?

This started as something I wanted for myself, particularly for long ChatGPT conversations and research, so it’s pretty exciting to finally have it published.

Thanks to anyone willing to give it a try.

Latest Chatgpt MACOS update - overlay window

The latest ChatGPT macOS update finally brings back the floating overlay window that stays on top of the screen. They call it now the "Popup window"

However, whenever I open it, it seems to only keep itself to Work or Codex mode. Responses take longer, run locally on my Mac, and do not sync with the ChatGPT iOS app.

Is there a way to use the overlay for a regular ChatGPT conversation that syncs across devices, or am I missing a setting?

[Free & Open Source] PrintPDF — a macOS virtual printer that saves real PDF files directly into your chosen folder

I’ve released PrintPDF, a free and open-source virtual PDF printer for macOS.

It lets you print from almost any application using the normal File → Print workflow. Instead of sending the document to a physical printer, PrintPDF automatically saves it as a PDF.

The main advantage over RWTS PDFwriter is how the destination works:

  • RWTS PDFwriter creates a symbolic link from your chosen location to its internal spool folder.
  • PrintPDF automatically moves each completed PDF as a real file into the folder you selected—no destination-folder symbolic link.

This is particularly useful when saving directly into:

  • Google Drive
  • iCloud Drive
  • Dropbox
  • A network or shared folder
  • Any normal local folder

Other features:

  • Choose your destination during setup
  • Change the destination later
  • Prevents accidental overwriting by adding a number to duplicate filenames
  • Works on Intel and Apple Silicon Macs
  • Supports macOS 12 and newer
  • No analytics or document uploads
  • Complete GPLv2 source code included

PrintPDF is based on Rodney I. Yager’s RWTS PDFwriter, which itself builds on Lisanet PDFWriter and CUPS-PDF. Full attribution and source are included.

The installer is currently unsigned because this is a free community project. macOS will show a security warning on first use. The release page explains Apple’s official per-package Open Anyway procedure. You do not need to disable Gatekeeper.

Feedback and testing on different macOS versions would be very welcome.

[OS] CopyDing — a free Mac utility that alerts you when ⌘C fails

I often press ⌘C, switch apps, and only then discover that nothing was actually copied. This happens with remote desktops, webpages, and apps where copying silently fails.

So I made CopyDing, a tiny native macOS menu-bar utility. When you press ⌘C and the clipboard doesn’t update, it plays the standard macOS “not allowed” ding.

Features:

  • Uses the native macOS alert sound
  • Adjustable detection timing for slower apps
  • Optional Launch at Login
  • Supports Apple Silicon and Intel Macs
  • Free and open source
  • No analytics, network access, or clipboard history
  • Never reads or stores your clipboard contents
  • Doesn’t monitor or alter mouse behaviour

CopyDing requires Accessibility permission so it can observe ⌘C globally. The complete source is available for inspection.

GitHub and download:
https://github.com/rochakagrawal/CopyDing

It isn’t Apple-notarized yet, so macOS may require you to Control-click the app and choose Open on the first launch.

I’d love feedback—especially reports about apps where the timing needs adjustment.

iOS app

Looking for an iOS app for TorBox streaming + reliable offline downloads

I’m looking for an iOS app that works well with TorBox and can handle both streaming on the go and offline downloads.

My current workflow feels unnecessarily complicated:

I use the new Reelo iOS app to find the right file, especially one with the subtitles I want, and start streaming. If I want to download it for offline viewing, I then open VidHub, connect to TorBox via WebDAV, find the same file again, and download it within VidHub.

Is there a better way to do this? Ideally, I’d like one iOS app where I can browse/select the TorBox file, stream it, and download the exact same file for offline playback without having to find it again through WebDAV. [aka Netflix style]

I was previously using Nuvio on iOS, but I got bumped out of the TestFlight. Its offline downloads were also pretty unreliable for me anyway.

Would appreciate any recommendations or better TorBox + iOS workflows.

Need help making payment for a Dubai Courts execution case

My father is a senior citizen and has an execution case with Dubai Courts. The judgment has already been passed, and he does not intend to contest it. He only wants to pay the outstanding amount and close the case.

The portal shows the full claim amount, but we cannot find the correct payment option or payment voucher.
.
Could someone please explain where and how payment can be made for a Dubai civil execution case? Is it possible to do this directly through the Dubai Courts website, a service centre, or another official channel?

I can share the relevant screenshots with personal information hidden. Thank you.

The dubai courts call center was not helpful as they simply said a payment link would be sent over email which never came

Does it switch between debrid providers

I have a question: If I connect to both Torbox and RD, which are both debrid APIs, and one of the services goes down, will the app automatically switch to the other? Is that how it works, with seamless switching between the two? Thank you.

Also, is there an iOS app available? Thanks.

BYOK in iOS Dictation

Thanks for allowing custom AI keys in the iOS keyboard.

I managed to set it up with Gemini for text messages.

I am still left with Groq Whisper for the iOS keyboard dictation model. How do I change that, please? It still seems to be using up my free allowance.

Offline Downloads

How do I download movies on my iOS device so that I can watch them later when I'm in airplane mode? I tried this app once before and downloaded a lot of movies, but when I was in airplane mode it gave me an error saying that the file format was not correct or something like that, which was, of course, a very disappointing and downer

I hope the bug has been fixed. Can people reliably watch downloaded content through the app in airplane or offline modr? Thank you

Deep Research never completing even after 20+ hours.

Since the “upgrade” to Deep Research earlier this year, my Deep Research feature has stopped working. I am a ChatGPT Plus user.

When I enter a prompt and start Deep Research, the loading bar never completes. I am accessing ChatGPT from the website.

Could you please advise what I should do?
