so much of astrology is based on historical misinformation??

firstly, please be patient and kind. i am not trying to diss astrology, I wanna know more.

so i did a researched online on days of the week and their planetary correspondences. what i discovered was how ancient understanding of space was very deficient (like calling sun moon planets along with real planets), arbitrary associations (the Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon sequence based on perceived speeds) and no real influence of associated planets on those specific days. as far as I understand, if the same thing had to be made today, it would look wildly different. also retrograde being nothing more than a misunderstanding too.

correct me if im wrong but how do people actually believe in this to learn and explore and entire system based on such misinformation? more importantly, why not rework it to make it make sense? like a weekly calendar with the real list of planets?

genuinely interested in learning!

the goddess is both partner and mother of the god?

literally the title. was reading about wiccan basics and noticed this information across multiple blogs. I'm just not used to the idea of this so it's a little surprising, do share more information or background on how this came to be to help me wrap my head around the concept please?

thank you and blessed be ⛤

what do y'all think about the patheos website? [patheos.com]

I've seen that website being referenced across multiple wiccan and witchy blogs and i thought highly of it until now.. i just saw a blog on their platform, from a christian writer, that was about the bible and abortion. she's pro-life as i understood 2 lines in.

i mean i understand letting people preach and interpret religion freely but platforming an opinion that enables patriarchal ideologies and strips half of the population of their rights can't simply be dismissed as religious freedom. should a credible platform hosting opinions about religion let such harmful opinions thrive?

also ironically, i just found a blog on their website criticising something very similar lol: https://www.patheos.com/blogs/fivefoldlaw/2026/05/24/and-now-a-word-on-transphobia/

s3 ep2: politically erect is an embarrassment

such flat conversations, the girls sat down and rated ex presidents based on looks and carrie narrates "just 4 girls talking about politics" like that's how women voters see these things. like even if that's how they see it, the generalization made it worse.

carrie sleeping with the politician without looking into his party, political positioning etc says a lot about her. she wasn't even registered to vote btw as charlotte mentioned. she goes around campaigning with him and asking people to vote for him simply because she was sleeping with him, he wasn't even her bf.

stanford jokes about representing the queer vote and says "got my vote" to the politician guy after checking out his ass. this was in the year 2000 when queer people didn't even have the right to marry in the US.

samantha saying he doesn't believe in democratic or republican party, just parties like it's a fabulous thing to say and not embarrassing to be that politically illiterate in a political party is pure apolitical propaganda.

i know this has been discussed before but i just had to rant. in a country where the feminist movement started with the demand for the right to vote, this ep could've at least tried to cleverly include witty conversations about politics. instead it became an anti-feminist agenda imo. god knows what they were thinking.

can't put a price on spell work?

So I was going through this sub's FAQ and found this:

Do not set a price on magical work. If you need money before you will consider doing a spell, then you are not prepared to accept the consequences of doing it.

so the witches who offer to do spell work are not wiccans or are wiccans doing it "unethically"? also what is the reasoning behind this rule? would love to know more from practicing wiccans!

can kitchen oils be used for magick?

forgive me if this has been asked before but i recently realised i do have easy access to kitchen oils like coconut, sesame, mustard, olive oils etc. I've seen lots of essential oils being used in magic but those are expensive and not easily accessible for me. so if anyone uses regular oils for magick, please guide me. also I'm mostly a beginner witch.

Carrie and Big sleeping on their first date, rewatch thoughts

Since the girls had a big debate about this before she left.. 3rd date, 5th date, 10th date rules... and then Carrie slept with him on the first date before even going to dinner... what did y'all think? personally i think, after Big only asked her on a date after stalling her for so long... BIG mistake. in simple words, he got his way very fast and easy and she never got her way with him, and enabled the humiliation for the rest of the relationship.

name of male commentator who dragged Harman for pausing match due to cramps

Day 1, Ind W v Eng W, right before Mady Villiers stumped Harman out, a male commentator was imo being extremely rude and unprofessional talking about Harman. She had paused the game and asked for aid for the second time during her innings and I agree she did delay the game but the commentator ran his mouth saying a lot of unacceptable stuff, talking about how one can't pause the game for mere cramps (not quoting him but he kept insinuating harman was overreacting), he even said something about men's matches and how this happens and isn't a big deal with them and a lot more. There was no female commentator who i heard so I'm guessing it was him and maybe another man but I was really pissed at his tone and words and he ruined my mood for a while there. i didn't see anyone say anything about this so I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding or something but I found it offensive. If someone can find a clip and also tell me the man's name, it'll be great help!

Also lmk your thoughts on this. I'm not objecting to him sharing his opinions, it was the way he presented them that was disgusting.

how does wicca explain systemic inequalities?

(I'm an ex-hindu, for context) like hindus justify inequalities via karma, aka if you're suffering in this life, it is due to the bad karma of your previous births. or even bad karma in this birth leads to bad things for you.

so what's the wiccan pov?
