First Day of School (from a NOVA Bus Driver)

First Day of School is Monday! While we are all excited for beginning of a new school year there's a new thing this year to keep in mind...

You may have heard that a certain school system in our region is starting to have students swipe their student ID's to board and disembark school busses.

Imagine a metro card but for the Magic School Bus.

As you can imagine, this will probably go exactly the way things usually go around here... stressfully.

It will probably take a few weeks for the students (especially the elementary and pre K ones) to learn how to swipe on and off in a timely fashion.

So, if you see a school bus with its red flashing lights on and the stop sign extended seemingly stuck at a bus stop ... PLEASE cut everyone (the bus drivers, the parents at the bus stop, and especially the kids) SOME SLACK.

The bus is probably held up because 70+ elementary school students are learning how to be efficient future commuters.

ALSO. DO NOT RUN THE STOP SIGN! The COPS are going to (rightfully) get ya! It's a hefty fine and probably some points. And God forbid a child runs out into the street and gets hit. That's another wall of shit you don't want to drive into.

You can only pass if the bus is stopped on the opposite side of the road on a DIVIDED HIGHWAY (A SOLID raised median, usually concrete with or without grass on it) meaning, DOUBLED YELLOW LINES DO NOT COUNT.

IF THE BUS IS STOPPED with the sign extended and there is only a double yellow line separating the two directions of traffic, YOU MUST STOP!

Have a Great School Year!

Stay safe out there NOVA!

Volvo xc60? Is it reliable?

The dealer near me is offering 1.99% up to 72 month financing on new XC60 and XC90s.
Been cross shopping between Lexus Toyota and other Japanese brands but the Japanese prices are crazy. Toyota wants 7-8%!
Heard good things about comfort of Volvo. Main thing for us is comfort. My wife is about 6 feet tall and she wants more space than our current ES350’s can offer.
Currently have two Lexus es350’s.

How’s the reliability of a Volvo product? I’ve been a Toyota / Lexus cult member all my life, but the way Toyota and Lexus are going have turned me away from the once reliable luxury brand.

We’ve test driven the following:
RX, TX, NX, Grand Highlander, Highlander, the new pallisade, telluride, 2025 rav 4, 2026 rav 4, 2025 CRV, 2025 pilot.

She does not like anything except the pilot. Everything else on this list is not comfortable (she has motion sickness problems and the bouncy suspension / regen breaking is bad for her sensitive brain) (yeah yeah I know. Sigh).

TLDR. Want to diversify into an suv or something with more space but don’t want to pay high Toyota interest.

Thanks!

Eva air business or United Polaris?

We have economy tickets on the IAD to TPE flight for end of July.
Called Eva air and they said 10k usd to upgrade to economy for two people. Putting the total around 14,3k USD round trip for two adults.
I am also looking into United Polaris from IAD to SFO to TPE.
United has the Polaris lounge at SFO as well as United club in IAD.
IAD to TPE on Eva air leaves at 2am. United to TPE via SFO leaves at 8 in the morning so the time on United is more conducive to a normal sleep schedule.

Which would you choose?

I also signed up for the United club card and am hoping to get the most points and pqp if applicable.
Also going to get this sign on bonus as well with this expensive business class ticket.

Thanks.

So please pass us and stop tailgating us on the 66 express and other 55 and over roads!
Idk why as soon as the weather changes around here everyone seems to just turn their brain off when driving.

Like why ppl so aggressive and shitty now.
A bunch of middle fingers in the last few days.
