💰 Will pay if you solve this. Vive 1.0 Base Stations stopped working after Vive Support firmware "fix" (Discord preferred)

Hey everyone, I'm having a really confusing issue with my HTC Vive 1.0 base stations and I'm hoping someone here has dealt with this before.

I had a 2021 Vive 1.0 base station that was having issues, so I followed the recommended firmware recovery/fix from Vive Support. It actually worked for a second after doing the fix, but then it stopped working again.

Then I thought doing the same firmware fix to my second 2017 Vive 1.0 base station would be a bright idea, because I assumed maybe they needed to be on the same firmware/version to sync properly. Unfortunately, after doing that, now both of those base stations are not working properly. They still power on, light up, spin up, and all the LEDs behave normally, but they don't track/connect properly in SteamVR.

I also have another original 2017 base station that I did not touch, and that one still works perfectly. So I'm 100% confident this isn't a hardware failure. The two affected base stations were fully functional before I performed the firmware recovery, and they still appear to be functioning mechanically and electrically.

I copied the firmware.bin files from CRP DISABLD mode and compared the working 2017 base station with the updated/broken 2017 one. The firmware files are identical byte-for-byte, which makes this even more confusing. It makes me think something else is changing, such as hidden calibration data, internal parameters, or something SteamVR isn't showing.

What I did:

Put the base station into CRP DISABLD mode. Backed up/deleted the existing firmware.bin. Flashed the Vive Support calibration rescue firmware. Flashed the normal firmware afterward. The first base station worked briefly, then stopped. I then repeated the exact same process on my second 2017 base station. Now both of those stations no longer work properly. My untouched 2017 base station still works perfectly.

Things I know:

They're HTC Vive 1.0 base stations. Both affected stations still power on normally. Motors spin normally. LEDs behave normally. They were never dropped or physically damaged. One of them definitely worked briefly after the recovery process. The untouched base station still tracks perfectly. The visible firmware files appear identical between the working and non-working stations.

Has anyone run into this before or knows what's actually happening behind the scenes? Is there hidden calibration or parameter data that the rescue firmware changes? Is there any way to completely restore these base stations?

If you genuinely know how to solve this and can help me get them working again, I'm happy to pay for your time once the issue is resolved.

Please be comfortable communicating over Discord, as it'll be much easier to troubleshoot there if needed.

PSA TO ALL G700 OWNERS USE YOUR FRIDGE AND SHARE!

Please remember to stock your coolers with water. I know it’s easy to forget, because I forgot too. If your cooler has a cooling feature, set it to 6°C and keep as much water inside as you can. Whenever you see delivery drivers, please offer them a cold bottle. It’s a small gesture, but in this heat it can mean a lot.

TorBox + Usenet honestly solved most of my Stremio/RD issues!

VIDEO GUIDE BELOW!

Been seeing a lot of people worried about the current Debrid situation, so I figured I’d share my experience with TorBox since I’ve been using it pretty heavily with Stremio.

The biggest advantage for me personally is the combination of Debrid + Usenet support. I use the $10 Usenet option and honestly, if anyone’s on the fence about whether the Usenet upgrade is worth it, I genuinely recommend it. Not to mention new user discounts are available, so don’t miss those.

TB community manager midnightignite also hosts a AIOstreams instance and they have simple Torbox setup templates too makes it easy to setup!
https://aiostreamsfortheweebs.midnightignite.me/

Another huge advantage is that TorBox allows account sharing across your own devices/household without the paranoia some other services give people about getting instantly nuked for watching from multiple devices. For families or people with multiple setups, that’s honestly really nice.

But if you want even better results, my personal indexer recommendations are: • Ninja Central • NZBGeek

Those have worked extremely well for me with TorBox without needing to self host!

There are also free indexers that work through the NewsNab addon from AIO, which you can add into Stremio and pull a ridiculous amount of content from.

One thing I’ll be honest about: TorBox’s cache is not as massive as some older services yet. YET it keeps growing everyday and with the influx of new users more now. RD has been a letdown since the legal issue in 2024 and had to get rid of its chache.

BUT honestly, the Usenet side makes up for that massively because Usenet retention is huge and a lot of content is stored long term. I consistently find: • more streams • obscure content • older content • hidden/niche releases • content in my native language that I genuinely could not find through normal torrent/debrid streams

That native language part especially has been a massive win for me. Not to mention usenet downloads stay in your account for a month so you don't have to download to your storage and fill it up like normal Usenet.

Another thing I’ve noticed: I personally haven’t experienced the takedown issues that started affecting other services recently. Besides a few hours of downtime once in a blue moon, it’s been smooth for me, and they even compensated users for downtime, which I respected.

Also, the more people that join and use it, the better the ecosystem gets overall and the community itself is great and super helpful! https://discord.gg/torbox

If anyone’s hesitant because setup seems confusing or you’re unsure what plan/provider/indexers to use, feel free to ask me. Can help with: • Stremio setup • Debrid vs Usenet • Indexers/providers • Addons • Picking the right plan • General troubleshooting

Referral if you wanna support me while trying it. Can get you up to 3 months depending on your plan!: https://torbox.app/subscription?referral=41d1cbd4-451b-48a9-91e8-50d1107e7385

Code: 41d1cbd4-451b-48a9-91e8-50d1107e7385

Edit: For anyone wondering what Usenet actually is:

Think of it like a massive long-term content archive instead of relying only on torrents and cached files. A lot of content stays available for YEARS because of retention, which is why it’s amazing for: • obscure/older content • niche releases • native language content • stuff with low seeders • higher chance of finding working streams

That’s why I personally pair Usenet with Debrid instead of relying on cache alone. They complement each other really well.

Debridio paid addon will stop supporting live TV.

I sure hope it's less price after this.
