Breastfeeding a toddler - help

So my supply has been slowly winding up for my 14 month old. This is fine - she still has a couple of good sessions throughout the day. My issue is that she often has these frantic almost "pseudo" feeding moments when she cries and pulls at my top frantically (often scratch me really bad in the process) suckles for like 30 seconds then jumps off to do something else only to come back and repeat process minutes later.

I don't know what to do. Maybe 1 time out of 10 it's seeking a proper a feed (which goes for about 5 ish minutes) but most of the time it's these frantic false starts. I don't really know what to do. I want it to stop as I'm constantly getting scratched up and whipping them out for 30 seconds before she changes her mind. I don't think it's an impatient thing for the let down, as when she wants a feed she can still trigger it.

Should I just wean her at this point? To stop it all together? I was hoping to follow the CDC guidelines and go until 2 but she's a good eater so I'm open to stopping. Mainly want her to still breastfeed for the immune support as she's in daycare and we are getting every virus under the sun.

Any advice appreciated.

What's a book that your kid loves but you hate?

Ok hate is probably too strong, but this one... it's not a great book. And she loves it. My 14 month old loves books, and in particular loves this book she got for free at the OP shop called "Pandamonium". The rhyme scheme and rhythm is inconsistent, it's about farts, and just generally frustrates me (mainly the rhyme scheme).

So please tell me I'm not alone in having to read a book I hate 5+ times a day. What's a book that your kid loves but you hate, and why?

Indent on babies head from cot side?

My baby likes to sleep with her head pressed against the rods of her cot wall/side. Usually fine. But today when I got her up I noticed that she had a red mark and indent from sleeping with her head pressed against it? It did fade over about 20-30 minutes. Should I be worried about this though? I know cot bumpers aren't safe sleep but the narka nd indent kinda freaked me out this morning. She's 13 months old.

High calorie meals for dairy free one year old?

Picture of a recent meal we managed to get into her. We've just been annihilated by illness and little 13 month old girl, who's already a string bean, hasn't gained much weight (in fact dropped a bit) because she hasn't wanted to eat much at all. She's (and us) finally on the mend. But her health Centre visit is coming up and I know the nurse is going to want a game plan to bring her weight up.

Anyone have any high calorie meals that are preferably dairy free (or can be altered) that are good for skinny ones who need to gain weight? Any and all tricks you have will be appreciated and tried!

Thanks!

Daycare bugs while immunocompromised.

It started a month and a half ago. She brought home hand foot and mouth. Then conjunctivitis. Then a horrific cold. And it's just been a steep decline for me since. She's now recovered and I'm battling a chest infection, on my second round of antibiotics (stronger this time). My partner is also sick with a chest infection too, though handling it better than I am with his functional immune system.

I'm achey and sore and I coughed so hard 2 days ago that I pulled a muscle in my ribs so now every cough or deep breath is ouchie. I'm bringing up horrifically coloured phlegm from the depths of my chest every coughing fit. I'm struggling to exist while entertaining my one year old.

We have mobilised our family for support to help watch the baby so we can rest. Bringing food and stuff and I am so thankful for it. But this is just the start of winter and I don't know how we will go about surviving the rest of the cold and flu season with a small toddler who's current obsession is feeding me by shoving her half chewed grubby hands into my mouth.

Any tips for surviving being immunocompromised and having a toddler in daycare? Or are we just going to have to weather the storm here?

How to better utilise my Costco membership?

We keep Costco for ease of catering family events but with the cost of living crunch I'm looking for things I can bulk buy for value/ease of life with a little one.

2 parent household, 1 year old baby, 2 cats.

Already buying her nappies, wipes, TP and tissues.

What other items are good value that we can stock up on to help save some bucks throughout the year?

Soft toy storage in a small house?

So, we have a 1 year old little girl and a few friends/family members who just love buying her soft toys and teddies and plushies and we have so many now it's ludicrous.

So, I need your best space saving storage ideas for them. We have like that rope/macrame triangle thing which we plan to install in a corner of her room but even then we have so many.

To those of you with a surplus of soft toys - how the heck are you storing them?

ABC Oat Slice

ABC Oat Slice! Big hit with my 1 year old. Here's the rough recipe, though I am very much a "baking by the seat of my pants" kinda gal so measurements will be rough estimates.

2 apples, grated 1 carrot, grated 2 ripe bananas, mashed 2 eggs Rolled Oats (like maybe a cup?) Cinnamon

Mix banana, egg together. Add the apple and carrot and mix. Add in the rolled oats. If it looks too wet, add in more oats. Sprinkle cinnamon and mix again. Press into lined baking tray. Baked at 160 degrees Celsius for like 20 minutes, or until it feels done when you press on the centre.

My baby girl absolutely smashes these. And I can usually have it baked and ready by the time her nap ends which is a bonus. Texture is moist so depending on your kid you could give this from like 9 months or so - that's when I started making it for my little one

Enjoy!

Four days solo parenting and I'm losing it. (Vent)

Partner away since Thursday morning for a conference. Baby has HFMD (though mild case thank god). She slept like shit last night, I got maybe 4 hours of broken sleep? I'm tired. I'm touched out. I'm in the bathroom right now venting here and I can hear her rattling the baby gate screaming for me. I just want to poop in peace. That's my luxury right now.

I'm counting the hours until 5pm when he should be back from the airport. I plan to hand him the one year old and just go for a few hours so I can have some time without her clawing and pawing at me.

I love her but I'm so very tired and she demands so much of me.

He REALLY should have met his step kid before marrying the wife. The bio dad is a big asshole.

I don't think we need hints I expect this to go quick but I just love coming up with them.

We WERE weaning....

But now my baby has HFMD.

So weaning is out the window and my 1 year old has spent most of the day latched on me. I mean, I'm glad I still can because she's sick and it's comforting, but also... This is going to bring my supply right back up after tapering it back slowly.

It's fine, I'll cross this bridge again when she isn't sick I guess 🙃

Anyone breastfeed and take norgesic/Orphenadrine?

I've been getting some really horrible back and muscle spasms in the middle of the night for months that don't ease up until it's morning, I'm moving or I've showered. My doctor has prescribed me norgesic which is Orphenadrine and Panadol(aspirin). He said that there is no study to confirm how much or any that passes into breastmilk(but it's ranked as B2 category got pregnancy so it can be taken while pregnant). I'd only take it overnight, and baby girl does not feed overnight anymore. She feeds at 8pm then again at 6-7am. Do I would take it at about 10pm.

Had anyone taken this medication while breastfeeding? I'm hesitant to take it but also this back issue has been going on months and I'm at my wit's end with the waking up in pain and being unable to sleep.

What happens if we vote no?

Please excuse my ignorance as this might be a dumb question but... With the new agreement the union has 'endorsed' (which I think is a crock of shit), what happens if we vote no?

I remember distinctly that in the last agreement it was pushed through and we were told in our subbranch that if we voted no and liberals won, we'd get a worse offer.

Is that true? Wouldn't it be we vote no and industrial action resumes and we push for a better deal? Please explain to naive me if there's something I'm missing about voting yes or no on this agreement.

Half weaning on work days - thoughts?

So my baby (EBF) is one this week, and we've got her down to about 3 feeds a day (morning, midday and night). I'm back at work 3 days a week and pumping on those work days but I just hate pumping and don't respond to the pumps. It's a whole thing, I posted on Reddit at length, I tried everything I just don't respond to them.

Anyway, I'm sick of pumping at work so I want to stop. I have enough frozen BM for 2 weeks of daycare, which she drinks out of a cup. I'm thinking of stopping pumping at work, and just having her drop the day feed at daycare? She still might comfort suck during the day when I'm there with her. I do want to keep morning and night until she's 2/doesn't want it.

So ... Does that sound ok? To stop pumping and have her not have BM at daycare, but still feed from me in the day if she wants it? Will that work supply wise to have a midday feed on my non work days (mon, wed, sat, sun) and no feed/pump on my work days (Tues, Thurs, Fri). Or do I have to keep pumping at work to maintain the day feeds on the non work days?

A magical deity is trying to get the hang of mild and inconvenient curses, so they let you choose from the following

  1. All beverages will never again be in that sweet spot of just right to drink. It will always be either just too hot or warm or too cold for you to really enjoy. You can still drink it but it just won't ever be in that ideal temp you want.
  2. All your dinners and meals(including snacks) will either be slightly too salty, sweet or sour depending on the food. Similar to the drinks one, it will still be edible but just not seasoned how you like no matter what.
  3. Whenever it rains you start sneezing. Not like a full blown sneezing fit but enough sneezes for someone to ask if you're alright.
  4. All cats will hiss at you and all dogs will growl at you at first. It will take about 5 minutes for animals to warm up to you including any pets you own. They will not bite you or attack you, but will make it known that they don't like you. This happens every time you see the animal. As soon as you leave the animal and return this resets.

What's your choice?

I'm on the OC board with 2 others for our apartment building and our current strata company just keep making mistakes, won't communicate and we are now looking for other options.

Can anyone recommend a strata management company in Victoria (south east ish area, think box hill/Doncaster area) that is decent at their jobs?

I remember reading this when I was like 12 ish? I don't remember but much but this is what I do.

The main character was a boy, his dad was missing (or dead?) and he lived with his mum and mean aunties. Then he developed some type of magic gift so he was enrolled in this prestigious school, under the guise of their music program even though he didn't really play (but his dad did I think). There was also a part where his aunties gave him a blue jumper he had to wear in this challenge and he swapped it with another student who had the regular uniform and the kid was attacked during the challenge as the threads glowed?

Maybe, that's about it. I'm pretty sure it's a series as I remember reading a sequel but can't remember anything that happened (apart from a girl who could create illusions I think?)
