Looking for quaint place by water

Hello! As the post suggests, I’m looking for a quiet, picturesque town, preferably by some water, lake or river, ideally swimmable, where my husband and I can relax for a couple of days! We are here in Romania backpacking and have been hiking a ton, and would love to just drink some wine and stroll somewhere off the beaten path.

We are in Brasov and will be spending a night in Sighisoara tomorrow. Looking for something like this somewhat around the area here or on the way back down to Bucharest.

We looked at spending some time in Dealu Mare for wine, but it seems like Sundays are a bad day to be there as many wineries are closed or only doing private events.

Thank you!

Moldoveanu One Day Hike

Hello everyone! My husband and I are looking to hike Moldoveanu in one day out and back on Saturday, July 4th and I wanted to gather opinions from people who live here or know the mountain well.

We would especially like to know about the road. We read that it opens and closes, so we can’t drive up early early. Is that true? Is it actually regulated? We have a place like 45 min out that we would like to stay, but would love to get out as early as possible.

A bit of background: we are from Colorado, US and very used to hiking long hikes. We have down 38/58 14000 ft tall mountains in CO and we are in good shape. We live at about 2800m above sea level so we are very comfortable hiking there.

We’re looking at weather and just not sure what things are like here. We are great at knowing what our peaks look like, when to go, when not to go, when to turn around, etc. but the weather here is unfamiliar. For such a long hike we would like advice. Also we do not want to stay at Balea the night before, we want to stay a bit down lower at a hotel.

*Edit* I am looking specifically for feedback on the weather forecast for the peak this weekend. What do you think about the rain?

Thank you in advance!

State Opera Standing Room Dress Code

Hi everyone! I have kind of a specific question. I got standing room tickets to the Vienna State Opera tonight. I was not expecting to go and we are on kind of a long trip so I wanted to get an opinion on if what I have to wear will work. I was going to go get other shoes, but turns out clothing stores are closed in Austria on Sundays.

Keep in mind that it is also 100 degrees Fahrenheit out in Vienna right now.

I have a dress that will work, but I only have black Vans or sandals. Will the sandals work? They are black and have a strap around the ankle and have a strap around the toe area. They are somewhat flip flop style but are more dressy than simple beach flip flops.
*Edit* attached a picture of the sandals.

My husband has a flannel shirt that he can put over an under shirt. Will that work for him?

Feedback

  • At any point did you feel bored, confused, or tempted to stop reading? If so, where and why?
  • Did the shift to Edgar’s perspective add new depth to the story, or did it feel repetitive of what you already knew from Mallory’s side? How did you feel about Mallory and Edgar?
  • Did you stay emotionally invested in them, even when they made frustrating or harmful choices?
  • Which moments or scenes affected you the most? Were there any that felt overly repetitive or emotionally numbing?
  • How did you interpret the ending? What do you think the story is ultimately saying about fate, choice, or “whatever will be”?
  • What would you cut, shorten, or change if you had to?
