gatheringbooks.orgHouse of Leaves inspired me heavily when it comes to writing/design
It’s not finished, only in the draft stage but I’m really proud of what I’ve got so far. I bought House of Leaves after years and years of hearing people talk about it and from the moment I started reading it, I was hooked. I’d already been into ergodic literature before I bought it, but House of Leaves has impacted me more than any other book I’ve ever read. It made me realize just how much freedom there is when it comes to art and writing. That you don’t have to follow a strict set of rules. Thank you, Mark Z. Danielewski. And thank you to anyone who comes across this post and takes the time to check out the pics <3

proseandquans.substack.comSaw Backrooms tonight and aside from being great it taught me that it IS possible to adapt HoL for the screen.
Everyone always says that adapting House of Leaves is impossible because of the book's structure, but I really don't think it is. Make it a 10-20 episode show (NOT A MOVIE). Johnny's plot provides the framework, and the Navidson Record is the sheet that lies on top of it.
When it comes to the ergodic formatting, I think that can easily be replicated on-screen via good cinematography and pacing. If Backrooms can adapt an endless maze of the same room to the screen, someone can adapt some funky words.
