I’ll Leave the Porch Light On

I have been working on this drawing over my lunch breaks and am finally done. This is my visualization of Porch Light. I’m thinking of making a painting later, this was supposed to be a concept sketch and I ended up detailing it a lot more. I haven’t drawn regularly in a while, and I am finally starting to get back into it. There is so much of this album that resonates with me, Noah really created something so beautiful

Mello vs Squishy Claw; Flexible Hair Clips Review

TLDR: review of flexible claw clips. Even though Mello is pricier, I think it has better quality overall.

I wanted to comment because I searched a lot about people’s reviews on reddit for their opinions on cloud clip, mello, and squishy clip. I wanted to find something that I could wear especially in the car without fearing that it will just embed in my skull if I were in an accident. And also for overall comfort.

For me, mello was very pricey but I caved and bought one for myself. I ended up buying squishy claw too just to compare, while the cloud clip’s shipping doubled my order price so I didn’t buy the product.

I have to say, between the two, mello is a lot better quality.

- The biggest difference is that mello’s prongs when squished from both sides, tend to point inwards, and even though one style of squishy claw’s looks similar to mello, the prongs point inwards and interlock between the teeth, and stick out. You have to really apply a lot of force to mello’s to get the same effect.

- Another big difference is that mello’s spring is much more adjustable/gradual, where squishy claw’s is just a spring that you have to apply a lot of force to, and it springs open all the way instead of being able to open it based on how much hair you’re clipping up.

- I feel like the Squishy Claw is less sturdy and that over time, it would break at the spring.

- Squishy claw’s material is more flexible than Mello’s.

- Mello’s clip held a lot of my hair without moving, and I didn’t have to adjust it even when working out. (I have thicker asian hair) It felt very comfortable and I even slept in it a few times. I haven’t had a ton of time with the squishy claw to determine this.

- Squishy claw’s was much more affordable and shipping costed less for me. One mello claw was equivalent to three squishy claws.

- one thing I didn’t like is that mello’s marketing, even through Canada day and Independence day, would boast about big sales and buy 3 get 3 free, and it’s very misleading. I’ve been watching the store website for a while and that’s just the normal bulk discount they offer. Really, the only sale you get is the 10% off at welcome, and the maybe 20% off you get as a thank you for the first order. But that’s not much when 1 clip is $25 USD, 1 charm pack is $12 USD, and shipping was ~$9 USD for me. It ended up being closer to $50CAD for me.

- the charms from mello are cute but they aren’t interchangeable like advertised, at least not for me. Once they’re in the clip, they’re in there. I accidentally broke one trying to move it around, I ended up supergluing it on.

- mello has a wider range of colours and I think they are nicer finishes than Squishy claw. It’s a soft matte finish vs a very high gloss and saturated colour for Squishy. But this is more personal preference.

- Shipping time was about the same for both, I live in Canada. Mello ships from Korea, Squishy Claw I am not sure exactly but the first note in my shipping process said it was received in BC, Canada.

Let me know if you ever tried these two brands, or if you know of other brands that offer flexible claw clips. I’d be down to try them out!

TLOU 1&2 Ellie Sketches

After not drawing for years I was inspired by tlou games to work on sketching Ellie freehanded, just with a regular graphite pencil. It’s been a good mental break from my math heavy work. It’s not the most accurate but I aim to continue improving through more practice, mostly it’s just to relax and enjoy a hobby again

I updated my 8x3 Tiny House Challenge

I made an alternative design to the one I originally started since I wanted the bathroom and bedroom to have separate entrances. It was pretty tricky to fit it all in such a tight space especially with a washer and dryer but I managed to do it! I added a little patio on the roof for fun but the house meets all the requirements on the ground level for functionality. Hope you guys like it!

So close but so far…

Hecking heck, I was 1 hr into a run with the idol and having two 3 packs of balloons in my backpack, I got to the kiln and threw the lil guy in, no achievement… I had grown attached to the little fella through the long climb up the mesa. I would have at least kept it if I knew it wouldn’t give me the achievement lol. I tried to reload the game from the caldera campfire and golden bingbong disappeared entirely. I saw that sometimes throwing the idol in can be finicky and it can glitch out or not give you an achievement if it hits too shallow to the edge of the lava pool. I tried throwing it as far as I could but it’s very heavy so it didn’t go far. Maybe I just have to climb up a bit and drop it from above.

Which, as a separate issue, on previous runs when I’ve taken a break and come back, my flare is missing from my backpack. So I just pray kiln has another one

My Attempt at the 8 x 3 Challenge

I’m fairly new to this game so I am definitely not a master at building or have knowledge of all these quirks that people can use items for, but I really enjoyed this challenge. I used to watch tons of tiny house videos so this was really fun and more complex than I thought it would be. I think it turned out great! Funnily enough, I forgot about the list of rules, I was building and thinking: how would this actually be functional as a home?

P.S there is a wardrobe in the bedroom you just can’t see it well, it’s the brown strip against the wall on the same side of the entry door.

————————

Rules

Your build must include:

✅ A kitchen with a refrigerator and either a stove or microwave
✅ A bathroom with a toilet, sink, and shower
✅ A bed
✅ A sofa or living area
✅ A dining space
✅ A bookshelf
✅ A desk with a computer or workspace
✅ A wardrobe or closet for changing clothes

Additional requirements:

✅ Maximum size: 8x3 tiles
✅ Only 1 floor
✅ No stairs inside the house

An Ellie Sketch

I haven’t drawn in a long time but felt inspired to draw Ellie after listening to the soundtrack from tlou1, and beginning to watch some gameplay for tlou2. I originally played tlou1 myself and really loved the characters in the game. I decided to take a break from work and actually sketched Ellie between my pages of calculations. I thought it went well enough to share with tlou community because this game series has resonated so deeply with so many people. I hope you guys like it

How would you describe the aesthetics for this album?

I see some influence from early 2000s oversized tshirts, thin eyebrows, smokey makeup, especially in stupid song. The post war nurse retro 40s-50s with the side part, heavy curls and red lipstick for the cure with that carrying into her interviews right after the cure MV. And ofc the flowery babydoll dresses from the 50s and 60s mixed with her more minimal makeup. I noticed that the vibes are pulling from a lot more historical styles than just the 90s rock which she’s rolled with (rock and rolled with) for previous eras and wondered if she had a particular idea thematically for her album rollout or if she’s just experimenting for the fun of it. I think it’s pretty neat

Am I missing something about this album’s aesthetics?

Ok wait one thing I’m confused about is how the retro/vintage looks and the hair side part plays into the concept of the album. I really liked the aesthetic in the cure, and some of that older 40s and then into the 50s hairstyles have crept into her PR, and I’m just wondering how it ties in. I am not a huge fan of the side part but also it literally doesn’t matter what my opinion is lol, I’m just used to seeing hair being a thematic thing for many artists between eras. Can someone explain?

Inquiry about face value tickets Internationally

So I was able to get a ticket to Target Field in Minneapolis for $385USD in the lower bowl, but I didn’t realize how bad the dollar from USD to CAD was (it costs $550 CAD) which is too much for me. Apparently I can’t go through face value because I’m Canadian and it’s not allowed unless I have an american bank account or an american debit card. Is there a way around this without opening an american bank account? Is it possible to go through legit, on 3rd party sites and get my money back?

Outerwilds On Sale in Steam!

Just in case anyone has been waiting for a sale, it says the game is 50% off in steam, at least for me! I’m trying to convince my friend to get it :D

I replayed OuterWilds and it still leaves me in awe

I hadn’t played this game in a few years, and wanted to replay it so I could take another shot at the DLC since I never finished it (got stuck). I thought I remembered a decent amount, but actually, I found more to discover and feel connected to. I really appreciated all the interactions with the other characters in the game. I love that they’re all named after types of rocks.

I remember the first time playing through the game and being introduced to all the >!quantum objects and how integral it is to the physics of the outerwilds universe and the identity of the nomai clans!< which I never fully grasped. And I remember being frustrated at the end, because I felt so overwhelmed after >!Finding the sixth location, Entering the eye, returning to timber hearth in a sort of simulation, finding all the lost astronauts!< I was left wondering “what the heck is happening? What am I seeing? This is so mind breaking”. And I know people have sat with this game much longer than I have and likely picked up more than me, but in my second playthrough, I think I realized it isn’t supposed to be clear or straightforward to understand.

I think we as the protagonist fall into the same trap as >!The Nomai before us!< Trying to make sense of the universe we are in, trying to find our meaning of life and what is out there for us. Searching for certainty and logic to understand our surroundings, and almost falling into an obsession that blurs our concept of self identity with the greater workings of the world. And in that pursuit, we lose ourselves. I think it’s brilliant that without realizing it, we follow a similar trajectory to >!Solanum. That we begin curious, form assumptions, feel hope and want to do good, then we investigate, and the more we find out; the less we seem to know, we question everything we knew, and we leave with the ultimatum of accepting things as they are or dying in pursuit of greatness, and even something in between!< . I think it’s beautiful that the answer is that there aren’t always any, or not the ones we want. And even if that happens, it doesn’t mean our effort was wasted. We still have meaning outside the original plan, outside of the world ending. We find meaning in just being.

I made an effort to pay attention to the dialogue in the ending sequences, and something about >!Solanum’s response to us saying we are not ready yet, resonated with me. “It’s tempting to linger in this moment, while every possibility still exists. But unless they are collapsed by an observer, they will never be more than possibilities”.!<

That kinda turned into more of an essay than I intended whoops….anyways, I can’t wait to try the DLC again, to listen to this soundtrack on loop and be peacefully existential around my own campfire

Question about Resale for Fenway

Apologies for my ignorance if I missed information on resale, but I have been hoping to get tickets to any of the Fenway shows from July 7-11. I’m from Canada and visiting a friend in Boston. How realistic is it to hope some box office tickets are left the day of the show? And if there are resales, where should I look (or is it just the mlb / ticketmaster sales)? If I try to get tickets second hand, I’m scared of getting scammed or scalped. Is there any hope for me?

Okay, I got through fighting David and we are headed to the hospital, but I swear I have ruined my own enjoyment of the story because I’m scared shitless and psych myself out. Both for the human enemies and for the zombies, and I know the game gives warnings for enemies, I have gamma up all the way, and turned on the “less gore” setting, and still I struggle. I wanted to try the game despite my inability to deal with scary things because I hear such legendary reviews about it. I fear I can’t experience it fully because I get too stressed lmao. I made myself a playlist of stupid songs to play when I’m fighting enemies, which made it better. But yea, any advice or reassurance would be good. I hear part II is good as well, but I don’t know if I can handle it lol

Well, I somehow managed to miss all the signs haha, and couldn’t get tickets because I don’t have an amex card. HOWEVER, If anyone is wondering, the ticket prices I saw were:

• $138-$184 for nosebleeds/upper bowl
• $244-$317 for middle ring
• $312-$485 for lower bowl
• $545-$773 for the lower bowl near the stage
• $312+ for general admission standing room
