Commuter rail - future hopes?
So the one thing that I will "fault" our transit for is the major lack of commuter rail.
WCE was acceptable for 95, but it's 2026 and we still only have a part time one directional heavy rail line.
Montreal and Toronto have several all day or at the very least daily including weekend services.
I know we're up against leasing the lines from cp/cn, but I'm sure just like go we can acquire our own rail or build some out.
I don't recall seeing anything in the 2050 planning for commuters other than sending the expo line to Langley.
Whats the construction project happening under the tracks at metrotown?
Is it a new rectifier for the train or something else?
What's the construction project happening under the tracks at Metrotown?
The length of a city block heading east from the STN. New rectifier?
Car insurance in BC - imported JDM
Hey!
So I'm looking at buying my first car in BC. I've owned vehicles in the past just not in BC.
As any of you from BC know, ICBC's estimator site is pointless because you a) need to already have a car with ICBC to access that tool, and b) need the VIN of the car you're looking at.
I have neither.
And to top it off, I'm looking at a JDM, so I'd really hate to buy the car only to find out the insurance is a small fortune that cost more than the damn car.
I'm looking at something like a 2009 Toyota PASSO or a 2007 toyota Ractis, or 2008 toyota bB
If anyone can give me some idea as to what they're paying for even for any make/model of JDM, it would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
SkyTrain jobs - how long for initial contact?
Hey just wondering how long is reasonable to expect to hear back after applying for a SkyTrain related job?
Any JDM car owners - dealers to avoid?
Looking for anyone that's bought an imported JDM car.

Is there any dealer you'd avoid like the plague?

intermedia.comMaking New West station a true transfer point
Last week I made a post about Columbia station and the various issues with it. It was pointed out that a) translink is already working on plans for a revamp of it, and b) that it was never originally intended to be a transfer station.
Some had suggested New West station, and in thinking it over, New West would be a great fit for it.
In fact, with the expo line being extended all the way to Langley, it really makes no sense in the line to be having it do that leg and north leg back up to production way.
So what if the track from Lougheed back to Columbia was reverted back to Mline, and they added in a 3rd track parallel with either 1 or 2 switches that trains coming from mline could shift over to, allowing expo trains to carry on through, and have a staggered platform at New West outbound platform.
This would give allow for easy transfers as this station has both up and down escalators if you need to cross from inbound side to outbound, with the staggered platforms its essentially the same as a centre island platform.
Now here is where I'm very much an amateur enthusiast, I have no idea how much space the trains need exactly for clearing switches, run off track, etc. Working space, there seems to be realistically 240m from where the tracks head under ground to the emergency exit stairs for the station.
There is a switch from inbound tracks to outbound coming from columbia, so it might not be necessary to add in a second set of the same closer to the station.
I know long term eventually all trains on expo and mline will be mark v's so I tried to take that into account for this idea.
Why does the trip planning take me to production way to transfer trains?
So if I'm taking off from one of the Coquitlam stations on the mline, and going to say new West, or Edmonds stn, why does it have me transfer trains at production way university instead of Lougheed? This isn't the first time it's been suggested.
This is the transit app, but google maps has given me the same routing before.
And with the expo line single tracking, it's not like I have 30 seconds to transfer, it's 5+ mins.
Columbia station - It needs help
As anyone who has even been through Columbia station knows, its a pretty lame station.
The few upsides to it, it has multiple exits leading to different streets - sadly kind of rare in the whole network, and that's about it.
The station stinks - literally. It's very drab and dark for a semi below ground station that has no development above it. It's a terrible transfer station to go between lines to/from Coquitlam/Surrey.
What would it realistically take to unfuck this station? Centre platform would instantly make it 10x easier for any transfers. Either more open roof section to allow more light in, or better lighting. Up escalators on both sides.
But the reality, how long would the need to close the station to rebuild it? Would it require shutting down the tracks entirely through there to get it done?
I feel like this is something that needs to be done 20 some years ago when they made the mline, and leaving it till after the Langley extension is done is just going to make the problem worse, especially if translink finally does rebuild it in a decade as its the connecting stop to Surrey.
Does any one else have absolutely terrible service on Bell/ Virgin in either area? I recently moved and Holy hell I get no service so often
