The way Patriot got treated by the audience was really frustrating.
I don't post long reviews in here but like hear me out. I watched this movie on the opening day and I was really surprised to see how horribly treated this movie was almost everywhere. The movie was being butchered by everyone for not being something it never promised to be.
Wayyy too unfairly critiqued.Destructive Criticism killed this movie. Let me explain.
Expected a Mahesh Narayanan film. Got a Mahesh Narayanan film. Athreullu. It comes with its flaws and that's what gave it a 3.5/5 in my heart.
Everyone knows how this dude's movies usually work- and this is one of them. Nothing different from what you'd expect from a "A Mahesh Narayanan film" card.
It could definitely use a better writing crew, as always.
And the marketing of this movie was wayyy too misleading too. Everything about this movie pre-release looked like it was going to be a Mammootty-Mohanlal duo film, but when in reality it ended up being a Mammootty film with Mohanlal playing an integral cameo role with an importance in the story that could've been easily avoided with slight changes in the story. I personally didn't find it annoying but I did see this point being brought up in a lot of reviewing platforms and I think I can understand that complaint.
Critique the movie for lacking in the writing front; that's constructive criticism. But what almost everyone did was nothing but shoot shots at the film for not being "massy" enough? For not having a glamorous intro for Mammootty and Mohanlal? For not having enough combo scenes?? They never promised anything of that sort pre-release.
It's not the makers' fault that everyone kept expecting mass masala bs whenever A10 and Ikka were coming together. This movie was honestly pretty well done for what they promised. A nice lil espionage thriller genre blah blah blah spy-esque film- not perfect, but entertaining enough... except for like a few points where you could reeeeeeally feel the runtime taking a toll on you. The ending 30 mins was the only part where I could feel the movie lowkey overstaying its welcome with the whole forced flashbacks and the whole pretentious emotional connect the writers were trying to force on us. None of it worked.
BUT- that was not what the majority was criticising the movie for.
They didn't promise mundu madakkal, meeshapiri OR chumma kalapila mass dialogue slow-mo fan service blah blah with earraping background music or none of the other gimmicky bs. They didn't have it in the movie either.
The ending third act was a bit too long and took itself a bit too seriously and kinda lost the grip a bit. That was honestly one of the very few issues I could find in this. Y'all should chill out a bit.
Also, Sushin Shyam cooked. Oohhhhh he cooked aight ufff! Sushin Shyam not using his usual loud EDM blaring speakers-blasting music in this was definitely a fresh change and it definitely worked for me.
You either love it, or you walk out thinking you watched an okayish spy movie. But ain't no way this was a bad film. Not OUTSTANDING, but the negative reviews out there are a bit too harsh, like bruh come on....I was entertained.
This ain't no Twenty-20 or a Narasimham bruh. They never tried to be either of those movies. This was a very decently grounded slow-paced "director's film" that happened to have Ikka pair up with A10 after 13 years as pivotal characters. That's it. They really worked hard on making this as grounded as possible with little to no overstylised slow-mo combo fan-service sequences, and it was pretty evident. Butchering the movie for not being something they never promised to be is.....idk bro. Sounds pretty stupid to me.
Critique the movie fairly. Constructively.
Destructive Criticism killed this movie. And it was very frustrating AND disappointing to see.
Athreyullu. Bye.
What was the whole deal about the removed dialogue in TTT?
I'm not from Tamil Nadu so forgive me if I don't make sense.
I just watched Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil for the first time yesterday and went through Reddit to see what others felt about it. I honestly enjoyed the movie overall with some flaws here and there, and the ending tap scene almost felt like a comedic way of showing how the village marupadiyum meendum ran out of water because of a fight over the same girl in the topic after years.
The village once had to go dry because of the girl ending her life by jumping into the tank, and now the fight happened again over statements made by the dead daughter and the tank collapsed and fell- again making the village go dry. That was a funny full-circle moment.
But apparently Jiiva said something in that scene in the original cut, and it was later censored in the OTT versions, i.e, the version I watched. What exactly happened in this scene? What did I miss?
I googled about it and all I could find was that the dialogue had something about following....conditions? I'm so confused. What is the lore? What was the exact dialogue?
Was that scene funnier originally than how it is now?
What are your thoughts on the indie music careers of actors in our industry?
NJ (Neeraj Madhav) has 2 EPs, from which "Jungle Speaks" is horribly underrated and is completely different from the kinda cringe stuff hes putting out now. It was lyrically amazing!
Sreenath Bhasi already has an indie album called "Iruthala Pakshi" produced by V3K
Nedumudi Venu (RIP), though not a fully indie artist, had some really good tracks.
I don't think I even have to try to talk about the kinda impact Kalabhavan Mani (again, RIP) made in the music industry with his iconic naadan paattukal.
What do you think? I probably missed out on some others too let me know about them.
A doubt regarding Punyalan Private Limited
Is it really illegal to collect waste without governmental authorisation? Why so? Or why not so?
Or did the legal system in this movie just come up with it just to screw up Jayasurya's plans to promote his mineral water company? Movie logic?
Are they slowly trying to change the title "Nadippin Nayakan" to "The One"?
This is the second time they've used "The One" as the title for the actor Suriya, and people are no longer using Nadippin Nayakan.
It doesn't really matter to me anyways, but I was just curious.
This is almost like how Mohanlal stopped using "The Complete Actor" to "Malayalathinte Swantham" and "The Real OG" and all that.
It's not like it's necessary to have a title tho obviously.
Not a complaint, but just curious. These titles don't determine the kind of phenomenal acting prowess Suriya holds- I was just curious about what their intention is with this sudden shift.
Bro what is this nonsense??? Fans "celebrations"?
Why is no one holding the dude back from doing this? Holding a knife (or whatever that thing is) blindfolded.....
This is hella dangerous, and it's crazy how no one really cared enough to stop the dude from potentially injuring the other dude. This is not fans celebrating a movie release bro, this is just straight up idiocy.
What are some of the worst mistakes the creators in Kollywood has ever made?
This bus dude trying to squeeze in through traffic through the left side of the road
Today near CUSAT Metro Station
Did Mohanlal never smoke in movies before other than in Thazhvaram?
Just a trivia doubt.
Idk why nobody mentioned this about the whole link confusion between Vaazha 1 and 2
I've been a bit inactive on Reddit so pardon me if this was an already discussed topic before
But like, Haashir, Vinayak, Alan and Ajin were all kids who never graduated 10th grade in Vaazha 1. They even mentioned about it in that police station scene with Basil Joseph when Alan went "Nammal okke 10th thottath ethra nannaayi alleda Haashire?" (translation: We're so blessed to have failed 10th grade, am I right Haashir??), to which he replied "Pinnalla" (translation: Hell yeah!).
And the location looked different too. None of the cameos from the parents from the first movie made sense cos like wth was Kottayam Nazeer doing at the airport? What was one parent doing at the hospital? Like eh?
The only thing that followed the continuity was the fact that Haashir's father was dead when he was a little kid both in Vaazha 1 and 2.
According to Vaazha 1, the whole Haashir team was in Kerala when the Vaazha 1 team was trying to graduate college. But in this movie, the entire team except for Haashir left Kerala as soon as they graduated 12th.
The way they all met up was through a bus stand fight scene over a girl in the first film, but in the sequel, only Haashir knew the original movie team. Even the location was different.
I guess this was more of a spiritual sequel rather than a proper continuing sequel to Vaazha 1.
The scenes were fun to watch in the theatre, especially the ending fight sequence during the wedding feast, but none of it made sense.
Not tryna say this ruined the movie. I liked it. Just like the others. I just thought of pointing this out because the lack of continuity between these two movies was wayyyy too obviously sticking out like a sore thumb and wanted to know if anyone else thought about this too.
They could've named Arun Kumar's character as "Kumar Mama" instead of "Kuttettan" in Vaazha 2
That could've been a fun easter egg for the people who used to watch Haashir's team's videos and still not be a confusing one for the people who aren't familiar with them.
And also could've been a nice lore expansion for their skits for their fans too. Sheiyyyy
Vikky x Ani combo used to be such a vibe whenever they came together- regardless of the movie's quality
Naanum Rowdy Dhaan is still a classic.
Thaana Serndha Koottam, though the movie being a flop, had a really fun album.
Kaathuvakkula Rendu Kaadhal album was an absolute blessing to my ears.
Goddamn wth happened here?? I didn't expect much from this movie but bruhhhh wtf happened with this soundtrack ugh- it was not HORRIBLE, but it was so forgettable.
Except for Enakenna Yaarum Illaye, which was a song that came out a decade ago during OG Anirudh era, everything about this album that was made by current era Anirudh was so forgettable.
Dheema was alright, Vibe Vaasey sounded like a lazy vibe song.... But don't even make me start on Adaavadi tho
Though it is true that his songs have declined in quality a bit the past few years, I genuinely thought this reunion would give us at least a banger memorable album. This was pretty average. Not HORRIBLE, but like...yk?
Man :(
He's almost non-existent in our movies now but is a really active actor in Tamil. And a very popular one too, playing pivotal characters alongside some of the biggest stars in our country.
The last time we ever got to see the dude in Malayalam was in Eko and before that in 2018.
How did popcorn, out of all the snacks that existed back then, turn out to be THAT standard snacks at every movie place?
It's become such a staple of an item that a movie theatre always makes sure popcorn is made available even if none of the other snacks machines are working.
And it wouldn't have been such a thing that'd spark my curiosity if it was a regional thing. Nope, popcorn is a cultural element for movies rather than a munch ALL AROUND THE WORLD.
What's the history?
I knew they were just gonna announce ts just to make sure no one else makes it a film before Sajid Yahiya could lmao. I hate when they do this. Is this even a greenlit project? Or is it shelved?
He literally got shot down a 15-story building in the previous film. It was a miracle he even survived such a fall, especially after all the hits he got to his head while he was falling.
It is later revealed that it was all Winston's well-schemed-out plan to save John AND get his hotel back together in that ending, but John doesn't know that.
From John's perspective, he sees Winston sit down with The Adjudicator for a "parlé". And as soon as he walks in, Winston pulls out his pistol and says "I'm sorry John" and shoots at him because he didn't wanna lose his hotel by saving John's back. He prioritised his hotel over his friend - This must be John's perspective.
The very next moment, after all that sickass series of ending fights he had to go through, he gets backstabbed by Winston. Only we, the audience, knew what exactly was happening there. And when The Bowery King took John's almost-dead body and asked him if he was pissed, John replied by saying the iconic "Yeahh" with an angry face.
But none of that anger or vengeance existed when the next movie started. It literally looked like he forgot about this whole thing and got back to being friends with Winston.
Wth actually happened there? A misunderstanding was bound to happen between these two people- but it didn't.
I love this franchise for what it is tho nevertheless, I just wish this dimension made more sense, or at least get a scene where they talked about it. It didn't even get mentioned lol.
