A typographic clock app for people bored with flip-clocks

Search for ‘clocks’ on the App Store and you see mainly flip clocks, analog clocks, digital clocks… I made Brutal Time because I wanted something different.

Brutal Time is shaped by brutalist design principles: visible structure, a restrained palette, and the removal of unnecessary ornament. Time is shown as type, grid, and rhythm — clear, functional, and deliberate.

The app features four distinct movements, each available in multiple modes:
- Typographic and Numeric
- Light and Dark
- Portrait and Landscape

This month I added kinetic motion:
Each movement can come alive. Continuous, ambient motion runs through the type — letters that breathe, sway, and resolve on their own unhurried rhythm, with multiple motion types per movement. A one-time Full Edition unlock — buy it once, keep it forever.

Additional features include:
- Three selectable typefaces
- Custom accent colors
- Home Screen widgets
- Always-On display support
- No subscription. No ads. Ever.

Spectra - the ambient weather app

Spectra is a minimalist weather app that renders live conditions as full-screen, generative visualizations — no icons, no charts, no clutter.

It pulls real data from WeatherKit and maps it onto the motion. Rain falls at the intensity it's actually falling. Wind drives the direction and turbulence. Heavy cloud cover thickens and softens the whole scene. There's a thunderstorm state, a heat state, a snow state, and a few others, eight in total, and the app chooses the right one from current conditions. At night it reads the real moon phase, so a clear night under a new moon looks genuinely different from one under a full moon. None of it is decorative. Every part of what you see is tied to a number.

The large widget renders the same scene as the app, so the weather sits on your home screen as something ambient rather than something you tap into and dismiss.

It's free to download and fully usable in monochrome. There's a one time unlock for the full color system if you want it, no subscription and no ads.

Spectra - the ambient weather app, now in color

SPECTRA, a weather app that renders conditions as generative visuals instead of icons and charts.

The large widget now shows a static version of whatever mode is active — clear sky gets the light beams, rain gets precipitation lines, etc.

bond — a calm care log for dogs with chronic conditions (built it for my epileptic Frenchie)

Six months ago I started building an app to help me deal with my dog's epilepsy. He was having frequent seizures, and I was struggling to see the trends — how often they were really happening, and whether medication changes were actually doing anything. Everything I tried was either a generic notes app or a pet "wellness" tracker that wanted to score his day out of 100. Neither helped me see what was going on.

After using my own version for several months, I've cleaned it up and released it, with support for a wider range of chronic conditions — epilepsy, anxiety, allergies, arthritis, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, IVDD, and kidney disease.

It's a calm, private care log. You track meds (with refill alerts so you don't run out or double-dose), seizures and incidents with the details that blur by the next day, weight, walks, resting respiratory rate, vet visits. Each condition gets its own view so the patterns actually surface, and you can export a structured PDF for your vet before an appointment. No streaks, no badges, no ads.

A few notes for the makers here:

  • Solo build. SwiftUI front end, Supabase (Postgres + Edge Functions) backend, Sign in with Apple only.
  • Bilingual EN/JP, each written independently rather than machine-translated.
  • Free to log everything; a subscription adds full history, multiple pets, vet PDFs, and sharing care with family or a caregiver.
  • It's a care log, not a medical device — deliberately doesn't diagnose or give advice.

It's live on the App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/bond-gentle-dog-care/id6761818593

Where I'm honestly at: a handful of users and a couple of paying subscribers, and I'm still figuring out how to reach the people who'd actually need this without being weird about it. I'd welcome any feedback — onboarding, the App Store listing, the positioning. And if you've ever cared for a sick pet, I'd like to hear what you'd have wanted from something like this.

SPECTRA — the ambient weather app, now in color

I posted SPECTRA here when it first launched. It's a weather app that shows conditions as generative visuals instead of icons and charts. This is the biggest update I've done to it, and the main thing is color.

  • Clear sky tracks the sun: cool blue near midday, gold in the afternoon, deep red at the horizon.
  • Clouds read the actual cloud cover: broken cloud at sunset glows warm, heavy overcast desaturates to a cool cerulean (no direct sun getting through), and at night it falls back to neutral.
  • Added a new motion for extreme heat.

You can switch Monochrome ⇄ Color anytime, and the Home Screen widgets render in color too.

One thing worth calling out since some of you saw the old version: there's no trial anymore. The free version is now the full monochrome experience, every condition with full motion. A single $4.99 purchase unlocks color, the widgets, detailed data, and multiple saved locations. No ads, no subscription.

Glad to get into the build or the thinking if anyone wants.

SPECTRA — the ambient weather app

Posted here a few months ago when I first launched SPECTRA, a weather app that renders conditions as generative visuals instead of icons and charts.

Just shipped an update with redesigned widgets. The large widget now shows a static version of whatever mode is active — clear sky gets the light beams, rain gets the precipitation lines, etc. Wanted something that looked good on a home screen without being a wall of data.

Also added a night mode called Nocturne. Tracks the actual moon phase — full moon is bright, new moon is barely visible. No moon icon, just the atmospheric glow.

Now $4.99 one-time after the trial. No ads, no subscription.

Happy to answer questions about the build or the approach.
