Who’s going to fare better post-collapse: US/Canada, or Europe?

I’m a citizen of the US, Canada, and the EU and so I’m asking: if you were in my shoes, where would you move to in anticipation of the coming climate catastrophe?

Important variables include habitability of the climate, food security, likelihood of unrest, access to resources

I have been involuntarily unemployed for 6 months. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced anything more soul-crushing. Is this just how things are in the country right now?

Over 250 applications and only 1 job offer, which I quit because they wanted me to scam people.

I’ve never experienced anything like this before, despite my CV being far less impressive in the past. I’ve applied to anything and everything, including any entry-level position I can find. I’m exhausted, terrified, terminally bored and falling into depression.

I don’t know if it’s something I’m doing wrong, or if things are just this bad in general for everyone. 5% unemployments is the official figure at the moment and that’s not *that* bad, but it feels so much worse.

Does a lower prescription affect the likelihood of complications?

I have a -3.5 prescription in both eyes, which from what I can see is a lot less severe than a lot of the patients on this sub. So, I’m just wondering how this may affect my outcomes. Thank you.

Has anyone else ever considered laser eye surgery in anticipation of a breakdown in optometry services?

I’m 27, with a moderate eyesight deficit of about -3.5 in each eye. I worry about what may happen if I can no longer access an optometrist to replace broken lenses, adjust my prescription, and so on.

I figure, I might as well roll the dice on LASIK so that in the post-supply chain breakdown I won’t have to worry about my eyesight. Has anyone considering do this or have already done so?

I can’t psychologically cope with climate change

This European heatwave has made me reacknowledge the constant, low-grade stress I experience about climate change, and the destruction of nature more generally.

Every day that’s unseasonably warm, or when I see something about a natural disaster online, my chest tightens up, and I carry that dread every day. I love nature, and winter, and so the fact that our collective greed, malice and stupidity are jeopardizing the most profound beauty of life on this planet is equal parts infuriating and demoralizing.

It’s easy to lose track of the toll it takes on me, because it’s a constant background anxiety, but it’s slowly wearing away at me psychologically. It saps me of energy and is feeding my depression. I hope I can be hopeful sometime soon.

Worried about whether my documentary evidence of residency is sufficient.

I’m due to apply for citizenship next year, but given that I haven’t been employed for the past 6 months, I worry about my ability to prove my continuous residency.

I have my bank statements, which show almost daily transactions, and I have my previous lease which ended in March, but my current living arrangement is a “licensee” agreement where I live in a house with the homeowner. Because it’s not required for the homeowner to register this arrangement with the RTB, I’m concerned about whether it’s acceptable proof. I’ve only now gotten my name on a utility bill just as an additional paper trail.

Is there anything else I can do to sure up my case?

I’m just overcome by worry at the moment so if anyone has any advice, it’d be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

How much of a risk is there that Swiss citizens lose their right of free movement with the EU/EFTA if “No to 10 Million Switzerland” passes?

I’m due to apply for Swiss citizenship as the spouse of a Swiss citizen abroad, and so this has worried me. We live in an EU country, and I’d really counted on the sense of stability that having a European passport and not having to worry about residency permits and the like.

So, I’m wondering how much cause for concern I have lol. We do plan on moving to Switzerland eventually regardless but freedom of movement would be a great perk of course.

Thanks for your time!

Will employment gaps affect my naturalisation application?

Hello everyone, I’m applying for naturalisation in about a year and one worry I’ve had is that I had a 6 month stretch of unemployment last year simply due to not being able to find a job in the rough job market.

I do have documentation proving my presence in Ireland: bank statements, lease agreements, utility bills etc., but would my inconsistent employment be an issue? I have never gone on any public assistance for the record.

Edit: I am on a Stamp 4 and my residency is not tied to employment

Do I have to remain in ireland while my citizenship application is processing?

Hello! I will be applying for Irish citizenship next year and I just wanted to know if there’s any limit on the amount of time I can be outside of the country while my application is processing.
