How did average Earth residents learn about Grace and Rocky saving stars?

If there’s a fanfic that covers this, apologies. I like to imagine how the news broke when JPG&R returned with the taumeba solution.

Police and emergency personnel at Physicians Immediate Care on Golf?

What was going on? There were people standing outside, at least 5 police cars/SUVs, an ambulance and fire truck, and another ambulance arriving as we went past.

Marketplace Changes: Healthy or The Last Straw?

Hi all! The announcement about old content and creators not logging in has got me motivated.

My oldest products are, frankly, horribly dated and need to be retired if not sh*tcanned. To get more practice in Blender, I’m going to recreate each product in mesh and send updates to anyone kind enough to have bought the old stuff. It would be nice to find that some of them are still around.

To me it seems LL’s plans seem like a good way to declutter. Do you find it to be infuriating, because of the sheer volume of work? Or is it galvanizing?

I haven’t made a completely new item and listed it in YEARS, just reselling no-copy stuff. So for me, it seems like a good framework for clearing out my mental cobwebs.

What are other creators who haven’t been as active feeling? Has any inspiration borne of desperation hit?

Even in Utah, land of ‘Big Love,’ families are getting smaller

For context, I grew up in Utah (as a “Non”). And the Salt Lake Trib still calls women who say they never wanted kids “childless.”

We don’t feel the lack of children, we’re free of the expectation to have them.

“Utah is a leading example of a demographic transformation that is sweeping the United States and other rich countries, as young women increasingly delay childbearing. As the trend deepens, the worry is that more women would forgo having children altogether, a choice that could have serious consequences for the country, economically and politically. For the first time, about half of all 30-year-old women are childless.”

We’re childfree, journalists. Pleeeeeeese make a note of it.

Climbing off my childhood spring-loaded high horse to email the organizers of my 50th high school reunion a short bio, as I’m not going.

I’ll definitely use the word “childfree.”

Wheeeeeee!

Got Bored, So Here Is A Raw Chicken Wearing a Party Hat

Pretty much what the title says. I had been working on product photos for either Marketplace or one of my inworld shops, and something inside my head cracked a little.

Why was I photographing a nekkid chikkin? Because I have 30 of them and I don’t feel like “cooking” them (it’s a #DFS thing).

I’m nearing the end of my inventory-clearing project, and I want to start creating hats again instead of being stuck on a kind of virtual farmer treadmill. The farming game can be a relaxing activity, but it’s been taking up too much of the depleted processing power in my noggin.

So I pulled out a very old hat kit that I never completed (it’s a sculptie, LOL) and decided the flexi rooster tail I had on it would be less dumb
if it was based on hollow cones instead of hollow boxes. The flexies move pretty well, will have to spruce it up and try dancing in it. It’s ugly, but funny lookin’ ya know.

About 30 minutes of tinkering later, here is the thing.

Feel like adding a cane and bursting into “Hello My Baby.” And once I get them listed and boxed and priced and uploaded to MP or my inworld vendors, I’ll probably throw the hat in for fun.

How To Transport Your Trike?

I’ve really enjoyed riding around the neighborhood since buying my trike (and continuing my recovery from a stroke). But I’ve been stumped on how to transport it on a road trip. It’s too heavy for me to lift into my SUV, and didn’t want to buy a rack.

After googling around, I’ve found a product that might work - two plastic pet ramps, each one is little over 18”. Based on this width, one front wheel and the drive wheel should fit on one, and the second wheel will fit on the second ramp.

Each one weighs 13 pounds, and is a tri-fold. Will advise if this works, I already tried a wheelchair ramp, too heavy.

How do YOU like to transport your recumbent for travel, bike or trike?

Golf Road in HE - Police At Every Northbound Intersection?

Cops and men in high-vis vests were directing traffic at all the stoplights as far as I could see in either direction. Was there some kind of construction mishap affecting the lights?

Edit: on our way back, all the cop cars were still stationed at all the cross streets as far as I could see, and Golf itself had no traffic at all.

Foodgeek Blogpost About Bulk Fermentation

Sune at FoodGeek has a new blogpost up, describing the stages and signs of bulk fermentation.

He’s a great source of tested information that takes a lot of the mystery out of baking sourdough. His videos are well produced, and I’ve been following since the COVID times.

Yikes. Right Side Ischemic Basal Ganglia, a year later

Every stroke is different, every outcome is unique.

Was hospitalized for 2 nights a year ago for my stroke (description in title). The nurses were great, but getting solid information from a doctor or neurologist was frustrating. Something one of my nurses said stuck with me after I finally got an MRI to pinpoint the problem. She mentioned “right side ischemic stroke in the basal ganglia, with small blood vessel disease.”

I had always been cavalier about managing Type 2 diabetes, because I always hovered above/below the mark on my A1C for prediabetic/fully diabetic. No meds for anything except blood pressure, and I wasn’t taking baby aspirin.

Well, this article made me sit up with a start.

Wish I’d seen this a year ago when I was asking Dr Google. My recovery has slowed and I spend too much time sitting and reading Reddit.

So I guess I’d better get off my ass.

You’re Invited To The Funeral Of Murpheola Stocknottle

Hello, everyone!

After keeping my starter alive through 5 years and many dormant spells in the fridge, my starter AND my backup starter got moldy and had to be thrown out.

Here she was, as she appeared in life. Guess the foil wasn’t the best substitute for using the proper glass lid, which was mislaid.

At least for a fresh start, I still have the Bob’s Red Mill Dark Rye Flour. It’s like a supercharger.

In summer (especially a scorcher like this one so far), I don’t normally bake, but I’d like to try making burger buns.

What Works For Post-Stroke Pain So Far?

How many miracle balms or creams have you tried for pain, burning, or tingling on your affected side?

What supplements have you tried for nerve health?

At just over a year after a rightside basal ganglia ischemic stroke, I’m still dealing with the burning tinglies (aka the stinglies) on my left side. Complicating matters, 2 EMGs confirmed that I have carpal tunnel in BOTH hands, probably triggered by putting too much weight on the walker handles or parellel bars during daily inpatient PT/OT rehab.

I get relief before bedtime by using an electric massage wand on my left hand, arm, & shoulder, but the stinglies often get triggered. Left arm often feels like I’m wearing a heavy, prickly steel mesh gauntlet from back of the hand and palm to shoulder. It’s not too bad today. I also have tight muscles in left side and hip, and my hip also looks tilted on left side. The scalp and face numbness is almost gone.

Here’s a list of balms and “nerve support” creams I’ve tried:

Mama Bear Oasis - doesn’t work, smells nice
Luna Nerve Balm - ditto
Dragon Balm Super Strength, ditto but smells rank
Magnum Solace Nighttime Magnesium Lotion
- smells very nice, some relief
Frost Aid - doesn’t work, smells nice
Wise Men Balm - doesn’t work, good for massage

The problem may be in a pinched nerve in neck/cervical spine. 2 neurologists noted this after confirming carpal tunnel, didn’t suggest anything to address it.

I do various stretches I learned in OT but also a few from YT or Facebook, and get some relief, but frustrated too.

Supplements:

Amla (Indian gooseberry) caps
Turmeric caps
B complex
Alpha lipoic acid gummies
Ginger extract gummies

My symptoms are improving, very slowly. Any suggestions to try welcomed. A friend of mine recommended her chiropractor, but I don’t have much faith in them. Perhaps an osteopath?

Suggestions for Catrike All Road rack and accessories?

My new Catrike All Road etrike makes it possible for me to ride again (I have leg strength/balance issues due to stroke). LOVE IT! Have gone for several 8-10 mile rides with no issues, very comfortable.

It fits in the back of my 2012 Nissan Murano, very hard for husband to lift, and I can’t lift it without help. It won’t fit in back of husband’s Ford Escape.

Any ramp suggestions? I could lift the back wheel when rolling it up/down. There are several options on Amazon.

Is there a rack option that would work on his Escape? In a year or two, he’ll be looking for a new car, and I may end up with the Escape. His rack MAY have an option for a trike adapter. My current rack also may have a compatible adapter.

Would a cargo platform work? Trike is at least 72” deployed, doesn’t fold. I tried out the folders (Dumont, etc) but they were very hard to get out of as they’re lower. I wasn’t into the Villager or Max.

Any other accessory suggestions? I need to make a scabbard for my cane, will probably use some neoprene that I already have. Will move one of my bike bells over, as I don’t think I’ll ride my fitness bike outdoors again, due to my fall risk. I was already real good at toppling over at slow/no speed before the stroke.

Will probably get a set of assist bars, Utah Trikes had something compatible that’s about half the cost of the stock Catrike handles.
