Windows explorer integration?

Hi, sometimes I want to share an image from Immich but currently I'm downloading from Immich web before I share it which is not ideal. Is there a way to have integration with Windows explorer or is it safe to mount the image storage folder as a SMB share and have metadata delete automatically etc. when I delete the image via the filesystem?

I am looking to upgrade from plastic glasses and got mixed opinions between round and rectangular shapes. What shape do you think fits my face better?

How to isolate docker containers in network but allow one container to access others?

I am using docker compose to run multiple services. One service is a tunnel service (newt). I would want this service to be able to reach other containers, but those other containers do not need to be able to access each other over the network. Is there a way I can set this up in docker compose?

How to set up remote adblocking + split DNS with Pangolin and AdguardHome?

I am looking to achieve 2 things:

  • Have adblocking + logging via adguardhome when I am connected via Pangolin.
  • Split DNS.

Pangolin is running on a VPS with subnet 100.x.x.x/20 and newt + adguardhome (192.168.1.2) are running on my home server.

I tried to set up adblocking by following these steps:

  • Created a private resource in Pangolin with CIDR 192.168.1.2/32 as destination and allowed UDP on port 53.
  • In adguardhome I set 192.168.1.0/24 and 100.x.x.x/20 as allowed DNS clients.
  • In the Pangolin app on my phone I enabled DNS override and DNS over tunnel. I set the primary upstream DNS server to 192.168.1.2.

Problems

  • When I connect via Pangolin I do not have internet access.
  • I cannot access my adguardhome dashboard when I am connected with Pangolin via 192.168.1.2.
  • I am not sure how to set up split DNS.

I found these cheap dimmable touch LED lamps. Touching the base turns it on on the brightest setting. After that turning it off and on again rapidly makes it go to the next setting (3 total). Is there a way to make it remember the last setting when turning it on so I don't get blinded each time?

I tried to use Tasker and AutoNotification to only enable Bluetooth for Android Auto, however it seems like I can only actually connect to Android Auto if Bluetooth is enabled. Do you have any suggestions on what could possibly work? My current attempt was:

Notification Type: Only Created Notifications
Notification App: Android Auto (Exact)
Notification Text: (Connected to your vehicle) (exact)

Intro

I have been a power user of iOS since 2010. My most recent phone was the iPhone 11 which I had since it's launch date. Instead of a battery replacement or new iPhone, I went for a cheaper Android phone after seeing positive reviews.

Shipping

I ordered my OP15 via TradingShenzhen at the 22st of April and it arrived on the 2nd of May. I went for the black 12GB/256GB version with OxygenOS. Shipping was flawless and tracking was simple.

The phone shipped with a travel adapter for CN -> EU and it is bulky but that is not a big deal for me.

Initial Setup

I ordered the Ringke Easy Slide Screen Protector with the Ringke Onyx MagSafe case. The screen protector kit helps to align the glass perfectly with 0 visible bubbles. The cases has a nice grip and looks a bit like the case that comes with the original phone.

Setting up the device was very straightforward. After some setup screens I went into the settings and configured everything to my liking. Some things I disabled based on suggestions on this sub were:

  • Printer scanning
  • RAM Expansion

Besides that I disabled all services impacting privacy and AI related features. I also disabled Google discover and OnePlus shelf using these instructions.

What I like

  • The battery life is simply amazing and fast charging is really fast.
  • The screen is very pleasant to look at. I enabled adaptive blue light reduction and I barely notice it's on. For me this helps to fall asleep.
  • Every interaction feels very smooth in terms of animations.
  • The default OxygenOS UI is very similar to iOS making it a bit easier to switch.
  • Sideloading apps is very easy. I can sideload apps and have full functionality.
  • Freedom to replace default apps.
  • Camera captures a lot of detail and nice colours.
  • Finger print scanner is really fast and smooth.

What I dislike

  • Deep integration with Google. I cannot use Google apps without adding my Google account to the phone.
  • Some apps rely on permanent notifications that are constantly active for push behaviour.
  • Banking apps and WhatsApp verify if apps have been installed from the Play Store which makes it impossible to avoid using Google.
  • I cannot hide my notifications until I unlock my phone to have a quick peek at the content from my lock screen. The phone goes straight into the OS after unlocking. Hiding the notification content is possible however.
  • You would think it would be more smooth on Android since it's less strict, but I cannot activate my VPN on-demand like I could on iOS. I would probably need some 3rd party triggers.
  • Android Auto is not able to display media that is playing for any app which also makes it impossible to use my steering wheel controls to skip songs for example. This is probably what I find the most annoying.
  • CalDAV task apps do not support recurring alerts for synchronisation. This is extremely frustrating and I have yet to find a workaround.
  • I cannot clear my notifications without also removing notification badges from apps.
  • Hardware key / Passkey support feels non-existent which means I had to disable 2FA or use backup codes temporarily to log in to some apps. This is just plain stupid.

Closing thoughts

Besides some annoyances I definitely feel like this phone is a huge upgrade from my iPhone. The UI's for 3rd party apps are not consistent and clean like on iOS, but they often have more functionality due to less restrictive API's.

Hi, I moved away from iCloud Drive and I am looking for a selfhosted replacement. My only requirement is being able to two way sync from Material Files on Android and Windows Explorer integration using any app.

I was looking at OpenCloud but I am not sure if this is too overpowered for my use case

I have been using iOS ever since the first iPod touch came out. Today I switched to Android. I managed to move everything away from Apple, then I proceeded to install F-Droid / APK's through adb and then I hit a wall.

I need to use the Revolut app and WhatsApp. Both of these apps check if they have been installed via the Play Store. I ended up downloading these apps via the Play Store and figured I might as well enable Google Wallet for the convienince just like I used Apple Wallet.

I'm curious if there is anything else I could have done and if people are in the same boat. I am aware I can use Signal but not everyone in my circle wants to use it. For Revolut I cannot think of an alternative way

I am backing up files I have on my server and Windows PC like below:

  • Windows files -> restic -> restic repository on server network share (hourly)
  • Server files -> restic -> restic repository on server (hourly)
  • restic repository -> rclone sync -> Backblaze B2 (hourly) (this runs on my server)

Is it correct that this way I only lose 1 hour of data at max? Do you notice any point of potential failure in this setup? Can anything be improved?

I'm getting lost trying to think about the 3-2-1 backup strategy I have:

  • Windows PC with 1 SSD.
  • Unraid server with 4 HDD's where 1 is a parity drive.

I want to backup files I have on Windows and Unraid. Those file itself are 1 copy. I can also store a copy on Backblaze B2. For my last copy, would it be fine to have it on my Unraid drive since it has parity? Or would it make more sense to use an external HDD?
