North/Central NJ adult hockey players — gauging interest in StinkySocks No Commitment Hockey

I’ve been working with StinkySocks Hockey on potentially bringing their No Commitment Hockey format to New Jersey, and we’re at the point where we need to get a better idea of how many players would actually participate before they can commit to recurring ice.

For anyone who isn’t familiar with StinkySocks, the No Commitment games are organized adult hockey games where you register game-by-game instead of joining a team and paying for a full season. They handle the rosters, skill balancing and goalie coverage, so you can play when it works for your schedule without committing to an entire league season.

We’ve been talking with a number of rinks in North and Central Jersey and there are some realistic possibilities, particularly around the Old Bridge / East Brunswick area, along with some options farther north.

I put together a short interest form to see where people would actually play, what start times work, how often they’d realistically attend and what they’d be comfortable paying per game:

This isn’t registration for a game and nobody is being charged anything. It’s really just to figure out whether there’s enough dependable interest for StinkySocks to take the next step and secure weekly ice.

Both skaters and goalies are encouraged to fill it out.

If you already filled out the previous North Jersey version of the form, you don’t need to do it again. Your response is already included — we’ve just expanded the rink search into Central Jersey as well.

And if you know anyone else who plays adult hockey in NJ, feel free to send it their way.

Interest check: no-commitment organized pickup hockey in North Jersey

I’ve been talking with StinkySocks Hockey about the possibility of bringing their organized pickup format to North Jersey.

The basic idea would be structured, dependable games that players can sign up for individually, without having to join a team or commit to an entire league season. I think it could be especially useful for newer and lower-level players, people getting back into hockey, or anyone who wants more consistency than random pickup without the commitment of a full league.

Nothing is confirmed yet. Before they seriously consider moving forward, they would need to know that there is a dependable pool of interested skaters and goalies, along with realistic options for recurring ice.

I made a short interest form to collect information about skill levels, preferred rinks, availability and what people would realistically be willing to pay:

Filling it out does not commit you to anything. I’m just trying to get an honest idea of whether there is enough demand to make this possible.

I’d also be interested to hear in the comments which North Jersey rinks and nights would work best for people, especially from any goalies who might be interested.

CCM Tacks XF Pro for adult beginner-ish skater — too much skate or good deal?

Hey everyone, looking for some advice before I buy.

I’m 6'0", 232 lbs, adult beginner/low-level player. I skate 6–7 days a week, mostly public skates, plus Foundry Get In The Game once a week. I’ll be adding stick-and-puck and beginner adult league/pickup soon.

Current skates are Bauer X-LP size 10D. They’re about 2.5 years old with maybe 75–125 sessions. My ankles collapse inward a bit, I pronate, and I’m still working on outside edges, backward skating, and crossovers.

I found CCM Tacks XF Pro size 9.5 Regular on SidelineSwap for $360 all-in. Seller says they’re in great condition, baked once, one small cosmetic gash that isn’t soft, holders/rivets are good, and they include 3 total sets of steel. All the steel is profiled 30/50 with a 1" hollow.

Main question: are XF Pros too stiff/too much skate for someone at my level, or does my size/skating frequency make them a good choice? And is $360 all-in with 3 sets of steel a good deal?

UPDATE: I bought them. Looking forward to breaking them in!

My fiancée and I are getting married on Sunday, May 31st in Boston Harbor, and we’re looking for a wedding officiant.

We want the ceremony to be heartfelt, short, and fun — but we also have a very specific request: we’d love someone with a strong/local Boston personality or accent. Not looking for a cheesy parody, but we do want it to feel very Boston.

Open to professional officiants, comedians, actors, local personalities, or anyone who might be a good fit, as long as the legal side can be handled properly in Massachusetts. Any recommendations?
