CT- what bird is this?

Pictures + a quick little drawing of it because my pictures suck. I thought it was an oriole of some sort, but it didn't seem to have a yellow belly at all. Can't figure what else it could be... Maybe I just didn't get a good enough look at it? Also, the head was a distinctly dark color in comparison to the shade of the body.

Thanks!

Preventing window collisions?

This window is adjacent to a bird feeder we have mounted off the deck. No birds can accidentally fly into it on their way to/from the feeder, but with the increased bird activity in the overall general area, window collisions have gone up. My question is, is there any way to prevent them aside from covering the windows in curtains? I've also heard of using window-clings, but the window already has very visible window panes, so I would think it's already visually apparent that this is a solid wall. Would adding window clings actually help at all? Or is it not going to make any more difference than the already visible window panes?

Would love an option that preserves the view from the window but also keeps the birds safe from collisions, thanks!

How/where to sell/trade small game fur to fishing fly tie-ers?

I don't -think- this violates any of the rules, but if it does, feel free to take this down 😅

Anyways, since I've taken up small game hunting, I'm also getting back into hide tanning and would love to have these furs be turned into some fishing flies or even rooster tails or other such lures. I would especially love it if it could be a trade sort of scenario where I give the artist these furs and they give me a lure/fly or two in return and get to keep the rest for working on others. Even just to sell em without getting anything back myself would be pretty great as far as I'm concerned (I'd learn to tie flies or keep em for sewing projects myself, but I already have too much leather and don't have the time to take up a new hobby haha).

Do any of you guys have any experience in selling fur to fly artists? Know where to have that sort of conversation or look to make that transaction?

Thanks!

Tips for snapping turtle fishing?

Not sure if I should post this here or on a trapping subreddit, but r/Fishing removed my post so at least I know that there's not the right place, lol. Maybe I'll cross-post if y'all aren't able to offer any advice on the matter.

Anyways, CT snapping turtle season is coming up fast and I'm interested in making this my first year targeting them. Especially since I saw an absolute monster of a snapper in a local river earlier this summer and I know that sucker practically could feed me for weeks!

I don't feel comfortable netting or hand-grabbing them, and I don't want to worry about carrying around and setting up a big ol' trap, so hook and line seems to be the way to go for me, and as far as I've heard it works well. I figured I outta use a heavy duty metal leader to prevent them from hiring through, and attach it to some nice nylon rope so it's strong and thick enough to tie/untie from a tree and pull up. Is that a good idea?

Would also love to know the best material, kind, and size of hooks to use, as well as what to use for bait and what size I outta cut that bait into, especially since I want to avoid getting catfish (love em, but too much mercury in CT catfish).

Thanks :)

Cooking lettuce to prevent food waste?

Between what we had already on hand, what we got from a farm share, and what's just about ready to be harvested in the garden, we have wayyyy too much lettuce and it'll go bad before we can eat it all fresh. Collard greens, kale, and spinach seem to do okay when cooked then frozen for future meals, but I've never heard of cooking other leafy greens like romain and red leaf and other such lettuces. Is there any tasty way to cook the lettuce so we can freeze it for later instead of having to eat a salad for every meal? Thanks!

Id? - CT, USA

Was growing in my yard. Thought it was cute. I accidentally broke off like half the stem but it was a few inches tall.

What file/format/host should I use when making a digital portfolio of my work for job applications?

I'm fresh outta college and applying to jobs (did a ba in fisheries bio for the job opportunities despite being more passionate about art but for whatever reason there are more art job opportunities near me currently...) and I need some advice on setting up a portfolio I can submit to application portals. Do I just pull a buncha png's of my work on a Google doc and save it as a PDF? Do I make a website and upload them all there? Do I create a sharable Google photos album? And do I just add finished polished looking works or also sketches and experimentations to show my range and process? What are art employers looking for from me? I'm a bit lost and a bit embarrassed I don't already know the answer to this🥲

Reccommendations for quiet .22 cal air rifles?

Looking for something that my family can rely on for pest control (mostly chipmunks, sometimes squirrels) for our fruit+veg gardens without disturbing any neighbors. Unfortunately my cat only has the mental capacity to roll around in anthills and then run into the woods when she's let outside off a leash, and coyotes will eat any cat they find outside here anyways... Would prefer something $200 or less, something that comes with a scope included already would be awesome too.

Thanks!

Filling the freezer!

The local pond is stocked with trout but they won't bite anything but bugs on the surface and I don't have a fly set-up. Got one good-nuff bluegill there and a couple catfish. Headed back to a secret spot I hadn't been to in bout seven years and got a good amount of some chunky yellow perch, despite the hundreds of water snakes harassing me and trying to steal my bait and bobbers the entire time lol! Bonus pic of one of the tessellated darters I got from a nearby river in my stream ecotype tank (the species is abundant and not legally regulated in my location beyond the "don't transport to release elsewhere" rule). They've been doing great and loving live small earthworms and thawed frozen bloodworms.

Anyone else here like to fish for "friends" in addition to food?

Finished my bachelor's. Moving back in with family on monday.

Some pros about it, some cons about it. Gonna miss my friends, but at least they'll only be a couple hours drive away I suppose. I'll be happy to be able to get outside and garden, fish, hunt, etc. I think I'm gonna use most all my money to buy a small boat. My father is retired now so maybe we can spend some time making the drive down to the coast and fishing the sound. Hopefully I'll find a job I like soon.

Also gonna miss the fellow gays. It's a fair bit more conservative and rural back home. Only bears I'll be likely to find will be the ones raiding my trash bin :(

No tag and no records of an amputee bear being rehabilitated and released round here, so it looks like he recovered by himself! Seems he's still healthy and thriving! Spotted in UVM Jericho Research Forest in VT. The forest manager and the other students in my tracking class were surprised to learn of this guy's presence. Crazy just how resilient wild animals can be :)
