Tell me I don’t need a new ereader

Hello,

I own the Kindle Paperwhite 3 7th gen from 2015. I bought it brand new and sealed 3 years ago, someone had it because of Amazon warehouse clearance or something like that. It was impossible to login to Amazon (which is great actually), it refuses to work with WiFi (only works with hotspot from my phone for some reason, so I treat it as useless). I performed a jailbreak on it so it has KoReader installed, that allows me to invert screen colors for example, which is really important since I read at night. KoReader gives me a lot of options that make reading experience comfortable (I have no comparison to other devices). It can be slow sometimes but it’s not a dealbreaker honestly. I wish it had warm light.

Because I use it a lot I recently started looking at what Is currently available on the market. I have a fomo because all those different devices have newer software, hardware etc etc (you know how it goes). Looking at it rationally though it really makes no sense to buy a new reader if the old one works, but still when I hear about all those ’great options and additions’ I help but think that I have some old device that is perfectly usable, It does what it needs to do which is allow me to read books. Only justification is that it don’t have the warm light but it’s not enough.

Please help me rationalize, it’s especially hard because I read a lot.

Dictionary search slowed down after update to 03.2026

Hello, I have the Paperwhite 3 7th gen. I've been using Koreader on it for quite some time now. Recently I updated it to Snowflake. After that dictionary searches slowed down a ton. I installed FastDict plugin thinking that It would help, but while indexing it crashes and can't finish the process. I also checked the other Plugin, made for the same purpouse (recent post, don't remember the name) but to no avail.

Do you know what might be wrong? Those searches used to be pretty quick, I made some changes to dicctionaries I use, but I tested it with ones from before I updated, and I can confirm that it works slowly even with those ones that used to be quick.

PUT Mechatronika

Cześć, czy ktoś z Was studiował/studiuje mechatronikę na PUT? Zastanawiam się nad zaocznymi, waham się między budową maszyn i właśnie mechatroniką. Ktoś mógłby się podzielić opinią?

I did a quick urban sketch today, I don’t like it and I’d like to improve next time. The problem is I don’t have enough knowledge to know what to really focus on. I just see this and I know it’s bad. Help me!

Hey, I know it sounds bad, for one its a V1 where the modchip is optional and It has been a year since i broke it. I'd like to try fixing it one more time though, that's why im looking for help.

First of all, I don't have ANYTHING backed up from that switch. It seems dead, i tried turning it on (with the charger plugged and unplugged) but nothing happens. I can only sometimes hear static coming from it. Screen is black, fans not spinning, nothing.

This is what I wrote last year on a different subreddit when I was looking for help:

>I tried modding my V1 with picofly RP2040. After soldering the SP1 and SP2 I forgot to check a resistance on those two capacitors. I turned on switch and nothing happen except for the CPU to get hot for a second, the screen was black, fan was not spinning. Then I checked the resistance and of course - 0 on both sides (I mean something between 0 and 0.7). I took the mod chip off and tried to boot switch without it but nothing happened. I tried resetting it (held the on button for a long time) but still nothing. I did my best to remove all solder but the resistance remained unchanged, 0 on both capacitors. After trying multiple times to clean those capacitors I broke the SP1.

One redditor tried to help me back then and what he suggested was that I might have destroyed the EMMC. He suggested that I can check it by soldering the Picofly and booting the console, it was supposed to boot straight to hekate if the EMMC was broken. I soldered the chip back then but the black screen remained.

Do you have any ideas what can I try doing next to fix it? I really would like to try bringing it back to life.
