WeChat’s ApplePay integration

Recently discovered WeChat pay can be enabled to support Apple Pay for foreign cards which is great. One problem though is it doesn't seem to save any transaction record of the purchase in WeChat. Sometimes with foreign cards the transaction takes long too long that it times out on the merchants end and I have to prove to them it went through successfully. With a directly added card, this is ok because I can show them the successful transaction directly in my wechat.
But if I used WeChat's Apple Pay integration, this doesn't seem possible and I just have to tell the merchant "trust me". Any solution?

China Merchants Bank benefits?

For a bit of context, I’m planning to open my second credit card with CMB. When I called them about this, they said it’s a requirement I have 300,000 in my debit account when I apply. I was a bit surprised about this considering I already have several years of credit history with them. Not sure if it’s just the branch rule and I should try my luck with a different branch.

Anyway, my main question is how to maximize my money that sits in my CMB account. Right now it just sits in checking collecting no interest. Are there ways to accrue interest or invest it? Are there any other benefits I should be utilizing?

Getting child’s SS card while abroad

So to claim my child on my tax returns, I want to get their SS number as soon as possible. I already have their CRBA, but the process for the SS card from my country of residence is to mail the documents to the embassy in a third country and I’ve been warned the process could take 4 months or more.

An alternate option I think could be to mail the documents to my parents (the child’s grandparents) and have them take them to their local SS office in the US. I think this should work and would be a lot faster. Has anyone tried this?

Rent 6 months in advance

We’re used to paying rent 3 months in advance in China. However, we’re moving soon and found the perfect place, but the catch is they are requiring rent 6 months in advance. Does this sound normal to people or should we consider it a massive red flag?

How to handle the leftover koicha?

First of all, I love starting my day with a morning bowl of koicha. However, not an inconsequential amounts gets stuck to the side of the bowl and can’t be drunk naturally. I could use a spoon, add more water at the end, or just directly lick the bowl, but just wondering if there’s a “proper” way to handle it .

Highest quality Chinese matcha?

For context, I live in China and like to enjoy usucha daily and occasionally koicha. I can get quality Japanese matchas like MK Isuzu easily on Taobao, but I got to thinking I can probably get better value on domestic matchas. The problem is they tend to be much less reviewed in terms of their quality so it’s hard to know which ones could be suitable for traditional usucha. The one I’m showing here is actually quite good, but just wondering if anyone else has recommendations for what’s the highest quality matcha produced in China.

Highest quality Chinese matcha?

Context for this question is I live in China. I mainly drink usucha and koicha. I can get matcha from the signature brands in Japan for this purpose but I always feel a bit guilty spending that much, so just wondering if there’s cheaper domestic options that can reasonably fulfill the same purpose.

For example, I have a tin of MK Isuzu I was using for usucha. It’s not generally recommended for traditional matcha drinks but it was good enough for me. Got something local called BalanceMaster Isuzu hoping the name meant it would be similar quality, but the difference is extremely stark.

Chronic freezing issues

Hi. I’ve had and IPhone13mini since it came out and have had a great experience with it. Last year I upgraded to IOS 26 and this was a huge mistake as now I get constant freezing issues. Every hour my phone will drop its carrier, wifi, data for a minute and I’ll be unable to use it. Sometimes it will freeze altogether for a minute. Sometimes it will restart on its own. It’s getting closer and closer to becoming unusable.

Storage doesn’t seem to be an issue, as although iCloud storage is full, I’ve only used 128 out of 256 GB of the physical storage. I’m somewhat tempted to just pay for extra iCloud storage and see what happens but all indications are it’s not the issue.

Any ideas of how I can extend the life of my phone or do I just need to give in and get a new one?

Is Molly Tea gaslighting me?

Every time I open instagram I see videos of two hour lines for MollyTea in Singapore, or California or wherever else. But every time I try it I wind up with the middest cup of grape flavored milk I’ve had in my life. What am I supposed to order from this place?
