i “need” to practice math on nice papers and pens. feel a bit wasteful. any alternative suggestions?

need advice if someone have suggestion or ideas how to be more sustainable and probably spend less money over time.

i like to practice math, and might be a bit annoying but i *need* to do in nice papers with nice pens. i feel like my adhd and ocd combined plays a huge part into this. + i love to draw as well. so drilling math problems in a nice sketch paper with nice gel pens or sharpie felt tips just hits different. somehow i don’t get frustrated and miss a lot of algebra details (my biggest issue with math).

i tried to just do simple lined notebooks, never ended using it i get frustrated and missed a lot of algebra details. if it’s wrong pen it’s also very icky to practice. i have an ipad pro 11inch with apple pen that i never ended up using, even tried to buy a different “paper-like” screen protector for ipad and somehow still frustrates me.

now i’m using sketch books (broken white instead of plain white color), no lines, with a very nice pen (went through three different type of pens) and i would spend hours and hours drilling/practicing with no troubles. yes i wld still miss some algebra but way less compared to under different conditions, and i just get less frustrated because somehow its still satisfying to draw graphs with the sketch papers and a nice pen.

please or maybe someone just need to tell me it actually isn’t that wasteful … 😔😭

i have cookie-cutter hearing loss. upgrading from APP1 to APP3 is genuinely devastating difference.

i have v-shaped (mid-frequencies) hearing loss and ever since i upgraded to APP3 due my APP1 is dying (but still works sometimes) my listening experience have been downgrading a lot.

first of all i can’t get over the pressure, feels uncomfortable even just for 10mins. not just that the more i switch back n forth to notice the difference, i hear way better audio from APP1 (not talking about quality btw, just hearing the audio per se) from APP1. the vibrations caused by APP3 is too much and it’s shaking my head even after i’m not using the airpods anymore— doesn’t happen with APP1.

the thing is it’s been a month and passed return window because i thought i would get used to it. and i also dropped the cause once and it scratched 🤦‍♂️.

genuinely might have to accept i just spent $200+ for nothing. any advice? will the ios 27 EQ update help?

how much can i get back if i resell this? but then whats my replacement anyway? APP1 refurbished?

thoughts on Sleepy by Sealy’s Skye Hybrid Mattress? $599.

hi! been a long time lurker here and i decided to just try in person. my mattress firm got this product discounted to $599 (also include free adjustable base, free delivery)

https://www.mattressfirm.com/by-sealy-skye-hybrid-mattress/5637625326.p?variantid=5637625329&utm\_kxconfid=t6c7xqs93\_ecom&dma=9021743&geo\_interest=&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad\_source=1&gad\_campaignid=22423460130&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIyYDEiNWelgMVFInCCB0tTQaGEAQYAiABEgKFY\_D\_BwE

i tried it in person and liked it but felt too good to be true. i browsed reviews but most of them didn’t feel recent or genuine? any insights would help!

for context me (140lbs) and my partner (170lbs) just tryna upgrade from our inflatable full size bed. we both move a lot during sleep, mainly back and side. we have a dog that sometimes like to sleep between both of our legs. we sleep warm but we have AC, during the winter we completely shut off the heater in our room 24/7. we don’t need anything fancy, just something comfortable to sleep as we both work physical heavy jobs, but we can’t spend too much right now due to other personal costs.

thanks in advance! :)

honestly the lack of people knowing her newer stuffs are disappointing but also surprising.

was in the middle left near front of the crowd last night lolla and only me and one other person knows the virgin songs; shapeshifter, favorite daughter but even hammer? what was that??? (no pun intended).

i’m not one to judge if people would go to see an artist and only know few songs of them (or their hits only). but lorde been to chicago before and her concert was packed and she’s been blowing up everywhere.

every single production for virgin/ultrasound tour is INSANITY. from visuals, transitions, live music, etc. i’m just surprised how these don’t attract people to listen to more of her stuffs? isn’t the best part of live music is discovering music you’ve never heard before? i would go to see artists i’ve never heard of and fall in love with them. but some people would go to see an artist they already know here (lorde) and there seems to be no spark of curiosity into exploring more already known artist?

i had a great time regardless but sometimes felt awkward singing my heart out and they cld clearly hear my voice.

did they remove the official exchange from ticketmaster?

i keep waiting for last minute price drops for thursday. welp. should’ve just pull the trigger. i hate myself. i don’t trust stubhub/seat geek enough since i know the original owners can claim wristband lost and mine will be dead.

is there an interactive visual video to learn about domain? for pre-calc algebra.

i’m really struggling but its annoying because i get the concepts just the tip of the iceberg. i just can’t simply put it visually in my brain why the numerator means that x bigger than zero (and has to be if it’s square root?) and denominator x is EXCEPT etc. etc.

something like the channel veratisium would really help 😭.

is there like math (or intellectual) clubs/etc. for non-chicago university students?

i’m currently pursuing a computer degree and taking online courses. i have mostly been doing most studies only by myself including topics like math/physics. i like my classes online due various of reasons and would like to keep it that way.

although i’m kinda missing the experience where i can discuss these kind of things with people that sort of get me though. i’m mostly interested in topics involving meta-math (e.g number theory, infinity, etc.) i’m not smart smart enough to understand it fully. i just think it would make me grow better and faster if i’m surrounded with people who share similar interests with me.

are there any organizations, events, clubs, etc. outside of chicago universities’ where this kind of people gather? i’m probably not completely opposed to joining something that’s within universities if it’s for public per se, but just a bit self-conscious if i’m not from that university— where everybody is probably familiar with each other.

thanks for any input!

hearing impaired. is airpods max 2 not a good fit for me? is there any work around?

my return window almost pass so i need suggestions to decide this one and for all.

i have impaired hearing, i got this result from hearing test with my APP3. got airpods max during amazon sale and was so excited to have it.

it’s hard for me to find any difference or even find comfort in APM2. first, i don’t hear music better, actually worse somehow— i thought this might be because of my impaired hearing. so let’s say APM2 specializes in fidelity or lossless, but looking at the graph that might not matter to me then?

i tried everything and go back and forth, spotify adjust EQ, audio balance settings and i still can’t find a way to make the music sound better. i feel like i somehow experience less with the APM2 compared to airpods pro.

all of that combined that i barely can keep this thing for more than 30mins because it make my ears so warm. but honestly i was willing to still keep it for home use had i found the sound is actually way better. or when the winter comes i can use as earmuffs and still listen to music (i live in chicago) Z.

any suggestions how i should try to tweak this again? or airpods pro is just better overall?

u/lostbythestars — 3 months ago

currently airpods pro 1. bought airpods max, didn’t like it. shld i buy airpods pro 3 instead?

it might be because i have impaired hearing or something but i don’t feel much different in the sound quality of airpods pro 1 v airpods max. am i crazy.

feels like actually my airpods pro 1 of six years, still functioning and charging like normal btw— in some aspect sounds better.

and i don’t have to deal with my ears/head sweating after 30mins of use, more weight, and gripping me whenever i wear a hat.

is there features i’m not getting from the airpods max? i feel crazy thats the value is $550 pre-tax and i’m struggling to find the upgrade compared very very old airpods pro 1.

lifespan for airpods max 2?

just bought a pair from amazon cause of prime deal, and i browsed afterwards there’s too many horror stories of airpods max (mostly from 1st gen) dying cause of something around 2 years~ and i feel like this is crazy considering the price.

i have airpods pro first gen running 6 years strong and ive used this DAILY like 6-8 hours a day. never have apple care at all for any apple products i have. and i thought getting this headphone would be similar experience but now i’m scared.

any tips how to make them last longer?
(honestly even then, the extra work just doesn’t make sense. the premium price for apple products is supposed to be for more durability).

i might return it since its still within window.

what edition is this?

i’ve been on the hunt to get some good quality pre-owned of this hardcover book as the new paperback edition i don’t like it … currently reading IAASL, but once finished i want to read GEB and i’d rather read one of the older editions. i don’t mind any signs of wear but don’t want notes/highlights.

is this first edition? what about the first, seventh, or eight— printing thing? does that matter?

thanks for the help.

[SPOILER] fourth rewatch for me and just finished s4 finale again last night. “that part” was necessary.

rewatching this show from when i was kid, and now that i’ve grown up makes so much different. i didn’t get much layers and contexts when i watched the show first few times as a kid, although i was still amazed by the storylines. one thing i noticed the most is how all the stories/characters etc in this show is based on one thematic: not everything is black and white (grey area zones).

i already knew what to expect from the s4 finale. i mean, this is my fourth rewatch. but somehow last night, i cried the hardest compared to my first, second, and third watch.

i can’t really describe in words the feelings i felt during the whole last moments of the finale. as someone who attempted three times before, i experienced relief, sadness, anger, confusion, curiosity and more, all at the same time.

personally, although quentin’s mental health has always been portrayed in the show. the way they showed it was very subtle and i loved it. it’s not *too* clear, it’s almost hidden. and that hits way closer to reality.

i sort of browsed here and there and noticed some people said they wrote him off because jason wanted to be done. but honestly, this finale was what made the show special.

they did almost unbelievable work for this finale because if you watch from even mid of season three they put it right on your face that “quentin’s book will end”. they made penny 40 sat down and went on rambling about how people get used to the idea of “white male protagonist” and the readers think “they will never die”. even in season 1, when penny 40 first went to the library and found the book of his own name, and zelda said “i would not read it, people who read their own books tend to not like the main character”. and many many more other things tied to this finale. yet somehow they still managed to shock all of us.

there’s just so much more to it. his story was not supposed to end yet. he didn’t get to say goodbye to his friends. but somehow i managed to accept that his journey ended— grey area theme.

quentin isn’t even my top 3 in the show, even though he’s supposed to be the *main* he didn’t hold as much caliber as the other characters (i’m not talking about characters’ impact to storylines, but more like personality, growth, complexity, etc). s4 finale really showed the significance/insignificance of quentin.

i can’t really describe it. i just felt like it was actual magic that made that finale so perfect. even all the external circumstances that jason wanted to leave somehow made that finale just. right. i felt like i didn’t lose a character, but more like a part of me in the story (again this can be tied to s1 zelda’s quote in the library).

the magicians is like the only show i know that you can tell that they don’t do things just because they do it for the ratings, viewers, etc. but they do it genuinely for the art. they’re so camp and whimsy with all the potrayals of gods, stupid sexual names in fillory, the dialogues, musicals— that’s to one end of the spectrum. quentin’s death was camp to the *other* end of spectrum. that’s what differentiate this show to any other show.

thanks if you read allat. just venting here cause i don’t know where else i can express these feelings to people that can sort of get it.

downstairs neighbors keep aggressively banging their ceilings/our floors everytime we do anything?

i thought it was just construction at first because the banging is so loud. and it would come at random times.

but then i do notice its a pattern that its happening directly below us with someone living down there. and literally the SLIGHTEST we do anything, even just grabbing dining table chairs, they would bang aggressively.

i noted one time we were playing the TV a bit too loud, and a lady knocked on our door to turn it down— so ever since then we always try to keep our volumes low. never got knocked again since.

but what are we supposed to do with just moving furnitures, or grabbing dining table chairs? i even always try to move VERY slowly our cabinets now. but literally i was just putting a suitcase and it happened, again.

w rainy season approaching again, i can’t help but be so giddy since i’m a pluviophile.

i do like enjoy watching the rain from home windows or cafes even, but the problem is i can’t hear them. i didn’t grow up in the US, back home we don’t have insulated roofs so i can actually enjoy the rain from my room. i miss that feeling so much.

now i usually talk very long walks around the neighborhood when it’s raining, but sometimes i just want to sit down.

where in the city, preferably far north side, can i do this? i also don’t mind getting rained on, but sitting on a wet surface soaking my pants is a different thing.

i’m just wondering what are the situations to approach this.

any legal implications or further complications in hypothetical scenarios?

- let’s say i report this, they include it in the lease, then they might want to raise our rent? or even if they don’t raise it now. they might raise it significantly when we re-new. we already signed the lease paid first month + move-in fees and just got the keys.

- let’s say i don’t report this, if it’s not checked “dishwasher” box on the lease. can they still be hold responsible for the maintenance or any repairs/damages caused by it for example.

regardless i’m beyond ecstatic that we actually have dishwasher lmao.
