I rescued Oreo today, and it was an incredibly emotional day. ❤️

I left home early in the morning to rescue her. After an entire hour trying to trap her, I finally got her to safety and took her to the vet. Oreo is around 7 years old and blind. I kept thinking about how she had survived outside for so many years, unable to see the dangers around her. Honestly, I don’t even know how she made it this far. 💔

A neighbor told me that Oreo had SIX litters of kittens throughout all these years. Six litters born while she was living on the streets. People fed her, but nobody ever rescued her. It breaks my heart to think about everything this sweet girl has endured.

After her vet visit, I transported Oreo to a sanctuary where she will finally be safe. They care for many animals and have special rooms for cats with special needs. After years of living outside, Oreo finally has a chance to live in a safe environment where her needs can be met.

Oreo isn’t the only cat who needs a second chance. A kitten was rescued with neurological issues who needs special care. And three kittens who fought so hard to survive coccidia and panleukopenia will soon be going on transport to begin the next chapter of their lives. Every one of these cats has a story.

I spent my entire day making this rescue happen. After that, I still had to feed my colonies of more than 50 community cats. I finally got home at 9 p.m.

I’m exhausted, but it was worth every minute. Knowing Oreo is finally safe makes it all worthwhile.

Someone reached out to me today asking for help with this cat. No one was stepping up for her, so I went to pick her up right away.

I’m running out of food for the 50+ community cats I feed every day.

I’m the founder of Luna & Nala Rescue Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and I’m a solo rescuer. I help cats who are sick, injured, abandoned, feral, or have nowhere else to go.

Recently, I rescued a community cat who had an injury to his neck and needed emergency medical care. Then there was Leo’s emergency expenses which was over $5,000, and Lucky’s rescue expenses added even more to the debt.
And there are even more expenses from many other cats I had helped this year.

Three months ago, I also helped another community cat named Cleo. She became extremely lethargic and stopped eating for three days. Her emergency veterinary bill was high too, but I couldn’t just ignore her. I truly didn’t think she was going to make it without help. 💔 I had to step in and give her a chance.

These are the kinds of emergencies I face as a solo rescuer. I can’t always say no just because I don’t have the money. When a cat is suffering and needs help, I do what I can.

I’m doing everything I can for the cats, but the veterinary debt from these emergencies has become overwhelming. Any help would mean so much to me and to the cats depending on me. ❤️🐾

While feeding a colony, I saw a cat run into an abandoned building where they usually hide, so I decided to check it out. As soon as I got closer, I heard crying and I knew right away it was a kitten.

I started searching and found an electrical box. When I looked inside, my heart dropped. There he was… stuck in the metal, hanging by his neck. I have no idea how long he had been trapped like that, struggling alone.

I immediately called the firefighters. They came quickly and had to cut the box open to get him out. Watching that tiny kitten finally be freed was overwhelming.

I rushed him to the emergency vet, he checked him and luckily he had no mayor injuries just an eye infection and despite everything, he ate and slept so much from the exhaustion.

Then something didn’t sit right with me though. I had a feeling there might be more kittens, so I went back to check.

And I was right.

There were more babies trapped inside the generator box. I managed to get them out too. They were covered in fleas.
These babies finally have a chance away from the dangers of the streets, sickness, and suffering.

Moments like this are exactly why I do this, and why I strongly advocate for TNR. This cycle of suffering won’t stop unless we step in.

I’m a solo rescuer and I also feed more than 50+ community cats daily, I provide them food, water and medical care when needed. I’m also practice TNR and want to share some of my work.

Leo was found next to a dumpster and had been with me since he was only 8 weeks old. I took him in, and from that day forward, I never gave up on him.

Leo has always had health problems. I have taken him to the vet over and over, cared for him, cleaned up after him, and done everything I could to help him. I had hoped that eventually I would be able to find him a loving family, but because of his ongoing health issues, that never became possible.

Recently, Leo became extremely lethargic, developed high fevers, stopped eating completely, and had diarrhea. He tested positive for panleukopenia.

Panleukopenia is a highly contagious and potentially deadly virus, especially in kittens. It attacks rapidly dividing cells, including the intestinal lining and bone marrow, and can cause severe vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, dangerously low white blood cells, and secondary infections. There is no specific cure for the virus itself, so treatment focuses on intensive supportive veterinary care while the cat’s body fights the infection.

Leo spent weeks hospitalized while fighting for his life. Between his initial emergency visit at one veterinary facility and his extended hospitalization at another animal hospital, his veterinary expenses totaled more than $5,000.

Thankfully, Leo has now recovered and is finally home. He is no longer shedding the virus, and after everything he went through, I am incredibly grateful that he made it through. His recovery means everything to me, but the financial impact of saving his life has been enormous plus his stool and gastrointestinal problems are still ongoing. He still needs veterinary care so we can figure out what is causing these problems and get him completely better.

But when I look at Leo today, I don’t just see the illness, the hospital stays, or the bills. I see the little kitten that was found beside a dumpster who was given a chance and who fought incredibly hard to stay here.

Rescue isn’t always about a perfect ending. Sometimes it’s about being there through the hardest days, refusing to give up when things get frightening, and giving an animal the chance to make it.

Leo made it. And after everything he has been through, seeing him home again is something I will never take for granted.

This is Cleo.

Cleo has been living outside in front of a warehouse parking lot for about three years after being abandoned. She lives alongside another abandoned cat I call Fluffy.
I’ve been keeping an eye on her, and when I noticed that something wasn’t right, I couldn’t just leave her there. She was extremely lethargic and clearly wasn’t feeling well. She hadn’t eaten for about three days, and honestly, I didn’t think she was going to make it. I knew she needed to see a veterinarian immediately.
I took Cleo to the emergency vet, where they examined her and ran bloodwork and other tests. She was dehydrated and had a pretty bad flea infestation, and there were also signs that she may have some inflammation or an infection going on.
She was given fluids, medication, flea treatment, an appetite stimulant, and antibiotics. Thankfully, after getting the care she needed, Cleo started eating again and began acting more like herself. That was such a huge relief. ❤️
Her emergency vet bill was $874, which is a significant expense, especially on top of the other veterinary costs I’ve taken on while helping cats in need.
This is the part of rescue that people don’t always see.
When I come across a sick or injured cat, I can’t just walk away because I’m worried about how much the emergency care will cost. I help because these cats have nobody else. But the reality is that all of these emergency visits, tests, medications, and treatments add up, and I have accumulated a significant amount of veterinary debt from helping cats in these situations.
I’m sharing Cleo’s story because I could really use some help with that debt. I want to keep being able to take cats like Cleo to the vet when they need it without having to wonder how I’m going to manage the cost afterward.
One of my goals is to find Cleo and Fluffy a loving forever home where they can be safe, cared for, and never have to live outside again. I will keep fighting for them until I accomplish that.
I never know which cat will need me next. I just know that when one does, I want to be there.

I’m a solo rescuer, and I’m asking for help because my rescue has been facing one emergency after another.

A new cat needed help with a very serious injury to his neck. He has a deep wound that appears consistent with an animal attack or bite, although I don’t know exactly what happened to him. He is now under my rescue, Luna & Nala Rescue Inc. He was seen by a vet, where he received treatment for his wound, including stitches and wound care.

At the same time, I’m still dealing with the enormous expenses from Leo’s emergency medical crisis. Leo was found next to a dumpster when he was only 8 weeks old and has been in my care ever since. He became severely ill and was hospitalized for weeks with panleukopenia and ongoing gastrointestinal problems. His veterinary expenses exceeded $5,000.

And beyond the emergencies, every single day I care for 50+ community cats. I provide food, water, medical care, and TNR whenever possible. The daily cost of food and supplies alone adds up quickly.

I’m only one person trying to keep up with all of this. Taking on another injured cat when my rescue is already stretched financially is overwhelming, but I couldn’t leave him without help.

I’m the founder of Luna & Nala Rescue Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in South Florida. I’m a solo rescuer. I don’t have a large facility, staff, or a big organization behind me. I do this on my own.

The reality of rescuing feral and abandoned cats here in South Florida is heartbreaking. There are so many cats outside trying to survive. They are hungry, sick, injured, abandoned, dumped, and often completely forgotten.

Every day, I feed more than 50 community cats, provide fresh water, do TNR, and help cats and kittens who are sick, injured, abandoned, lost, or have nowhere else to go.

Right now, I’m struggling financially because the expenses have continued to pile up, especially with Leo’s medical emergency.

Leo is especially important to me. I found him in a dumpster when he was only about 8 weeks old. He has been in my care for months, and after everything he has already gone through, watching him become so sick has been heartbreaking. He is fighting, and I’m doing everything I can to help him recover.

I’m Iroshka Samantha Perez, but everyone calls me Sam.

I’m the founder of Luna & Nala Rescue Inc., a registered and active 501(c)(3) nonprofit. I care for more than 50 community cats every day by providing food, fresh water, and ongoing TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) services. Through TNR, I work to reduce the homeless cat population and prevent future generations from being born into hardship on the streets.

Over the years, I have rescued elderly cats, sick and injured cats, abandoned cats, and vulnerable kittens. Many have received the medical care, rehabilitation, and love they needed before finding safe, loving forever homes.

This video shows many of the cats I have rescued, TNR work in action, as well as vet visits, emergencies, and the ongoing care that goes into rescue. It includes both past and present rescues, featuring many of the cats who have been rescued and adopted, as well as some of the kittens currently in our care. Those kittens have already been pre-adopted and are simply waiting until they’re old enough and ready to go to their forever homes.

Right now, though, I’m facing an especially difficult situation with Leo. 💔 Leo was recently diagnosed with PANLEUKOPENIA and is currently hospitalized, where he needs intensive care and treatment. Because this virus is extremely contagious, I also have to be extremely careful with the other rescued cats in my care.

At the same time, I’m personally recovering from an emergency surgery. I’m still healing and struggling physically, but I’m doing everything I possibly can to save Leo. I may be recovering myself, but I cannot just give up on him. I’m doing everything I can to make sure he gets the care and chance he deserves. ❤️‍🩹🐾

This has been incredibly overwhelming emotionally and financially. Between Leo’s hospitalization and medical care, testing and precautions for the other cats, food, supplies, and my ongoing rescue expenses, I’m struggling to keep up.

I don’t think people truly understand how scary it is to love rescue animals this deeply and then face the possibility of losing them. 💔

Right now, I’m terrified for Leo.

He has already spent one week in the hospital, and he needs to remain hospitalized, isolated, and receiving treatment for at least another 2–3 weeks.

I cannot bring him home because I have other cats who were exposed. I’m now also terrified for them, and I had them tested as a precaution and waiting on their results.

And while I’m dealing with this fear, I’m also trying to recover from emergency surgery myself.

Then there is Lucky. ❤️

Lucky was another cat I could not leave behind.

I found Lucky near a dumpster. He was an older, extremely feral cat who had been trying to survive on his own.

When Lucky went to the vet, we discovered that he was FIV positive and FeLV positive. He also had entropion, where his eyelids were turning inward and his eyelashes were rubbing against his eyes, causing him pain.

Lucky needed eye surgery. He got it and recovered. Lucky was also neutered and vaccinated, and there were additional veterinary expenses associated with getting him healthy and ready for placement.

But Lucky’s story didn’t end with his surgery.

Because he was so feral and FIV/FeLV positive, finding a safe place for him was incredibly difficult. He could not simply be placed in an ordinary home, and I could not put him back on the streets after everything he had already endured.

I kept searching until I found a sanctuary in Pine Island, Florida that was willing to take him.

Then came another round of expenses—his sanctuary intake fee, transportation, gas, and all the costs involved in personally getting this old boy safely to his new home. He also needed a bath because he was covered in pee and feces and couldn’t take him like that. After asking hospital to help me bath him and all refusing I found a kind lady that helped me and to my surprise Lucky was calm during the bath🥺

I refused to give up on Lucky.

I refused to let his age, his medical conditions, or the fact that he was feral make him disposable.

And now, with Leo, I’m facing another heartbreaking situation.

These are the parts of rescue that people don’t always see. It’s not just taking an animal off the street. It’s the veterinary bills, surgeries, medications, hospitalization, testing, boarding, food, supplies, transportation, sanctuary fees, and countless unexpected expenses that come afterward.

And emotionally, it’s the fear.

The fear of getting that phone call from the veterinarian.

The fear of wondering if they’re going to make it.

The fear of bringing home a cat who could expose the others.

The fear of losing an animal you have fought so hard to save.

I’m trying to stay strong, but the truth is, I’m scared.

I love animals with my whole heart. They are not just rescue cases to me. They are little lives that trusted me to help them.

I never gave up on Leo. I never gave up on Lucky.

And I’m going to keep fighting for them for as long as I possibly can.

I just learned that Leo has feline panleukopenia (feline parvovirus). 💔 I’m absolutely devastated.
Panleukopenia is a highly contagious and potentially deadly virus, especially in kittens. It attacks rapidly dividing cells, including the intestinal lining and bone marrow, which can cause severe vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, dangerously low white blood cells, and secondary infections. There is no specific cure for the virus itself, so treatment is focused on intensive supportive veterinary care while the cat’s body fights the infection.
Leo has already been hospitalized for a week, and I need help keeping him there so he can continue receiving the care and monitoring he needs. This virus can become life-threatening and is extremely contagious, I cannot safely bring him home yet.
This is especially frightening because I have other cats at home, and the virus can survive in the environment for a very long time. Recovered cats can also continue shedding the virus after they appear better.
Leo was rescued since 8 weeks old near a dumpster and had always been having gastrointestinal problems and I always kept him treated but he hasn’t really been healthy.

I’m asking the community for help for the 50+ community cats I care for every day. These cats depend on me for their daily meals, and I can’t let them go hungry.

I’m going through an incredibly difficult and overwhelming time right now. Leo is still hospitalized and fighting through a serious medical emergency(Leo is a rescue) and I’m also in the hospital myself dealing with my own health issues and facing surgery. Having both things happening at the same time has been emotionally and physically overwhelming. ❤️‍🩹

Even through all of this, I’m trying my best to make sure the cats who depend on me every day are still fed and cared for.

In addition to feeding 50+ community cats daily, I also do TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) to help reduce the number of cats and prevent more kittens from being born on the streets.

I’m asking for a little help for the kittens in my care. food, litter, cleaning supplies, and other essentials while I continue caring for them.
I also feed 50+ community cats daily and I’m currently in need of wet food.
Right now, I’m also struggling with an emergency situation with Leo. 💔 Leo has been hospitalized for the past 4 days and is very sick. The unexpected veterinary expenses have become overwhelming, and I’m desperately trying to get him the care he needs and give him a chance to get better.
As a solo rescuer, keeping up with the needs of so many cats and kittens is already a lot, and this emergency with Leo has made things even harder.

Today I went to visit Leo and I am completely heartbroken seeing him like this. He is only 7 months old, and he has been fighting for so long.

I rescued Leo from a dumpster when he was only 8 weeks old. Since the day I found him, I have been fighting for him and doing everything I possibly can to give him a chance at a healthy life. Sadly, Leo has never truly been healthy.

Today, his fever is still coming and going and will not go away. He has almost no appetite, his diarrhea continues, and we are still waiting for his lab results to hopefully give the doctors some answers. We don’t know what is wrong yet, and that is the hardest part, just sitting here waiting and hoping the doctors can figure it out and save him.

I would trade anything in the world to see Leo healthy. I would give anything to take this suffering away from him.

I can’t even sleep. My body has been shaking constantly, and I feel completely hopeless and helpless just waiting for the next update from the doctors. I keep asking myself what else I can do for him.

His first emergency bill was $861.

His treatment bill at the hospital has already reached $3,000, and I know this fight is not over. These expenses are becoming overwhelming, and I desperately need help.

While my heart is breaking for Leo, I am also incredibly grateful that Lucky is finally safe. ❤️

Lucky was an older, very feral cat I rescued from the streets near a dumpster. He was struggling to survive outside, and because of his age, health issues, and being so feral, finding him a safe place was extremely difficult. He is FIV and FeLV positive and also had an eye condition that required surgery.

Before Lucky could leave for the sanctuary, he desperately needed a bath. He was covered in pee and poop, and honestly, I didn’t want to put him through a bath after everything he had already been through. But it was necessary, and there simply wasn’t time to wait.

I called many hospitals hoping someone could help clean him, but they all refused. I was running out of options and time. Thankfully, I found a wonderful and very kind lady who runs a grooming business, and she agreed to help Lucky. ❤️

Lucky completely surprised me. 🥺 He was so calm during his bath and while she carefully cleaned him.

I just wanted him to arrive at his new home clean, comfortable, and feeling a little better after everything he had been through. ❤️

For Lucky’s trip to the sanctuary, I also had to rent a car. My own car is not working properly, and I was worried that I could risk getting stranded somewhere in the middle of the road with Lucky. I didn’t want to take that chance. I just wanted to make sure we were safe and that I could get Lucky to the sanctuary without something going wrong along the way.

After everything Lucky had been through, he finally made it to a sanctuary where he can live safely and have other cats around him. He was scared when he arrived and hid under a pink bench while the other cats came over to smell him. Then they simply gave him space, almost like they understood that he needed time. 🥺❤️

For the first time, Lucky doesn’t have to live on the streets, searching for food and trying to survive. His suffering outside is over.

But getting Lucky to safety also came with expenses…his veterinary care, his bath and cleaning, his transport, the rental car, and his sanctuary intake fee. I am now trying to cover those expenses while also facing Leo’s rapidly growing medical bills.

And my rescue work doesn’t stop.

Every single day I care for community cats. I feed them, provide fresh water, care for sick and injured cats, trap cats for TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return), take cats to the veterinarian when they need medical attention, rescue abandoned cats and kittens, and provide whatever help I can to the animals who have nobody else.

I do this on my own, and right now I am trying to keep fighting for Leo while continuing to care for all the cats who depend on me every single day.

I am exhausted. I am scared. But I cannot stop fighting for them.
