Fujimi 1/24 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona (Finished)

Started August 6, finished today. Fujimi 1/24 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona, finished box stock (although I did strip the horrible finish on the kit wheels and airbrush them with DSPIAE Chrome marker refill) with some added red ignition wiring. The body is Craftsmart Amethyst acrylic, thinned and airbrushed over Vallejo acrylic black primer, and topped with Mr. Color GX100. Unlike some Fujimi Enthusiast kits that I've put together in the past (namely the Porsche 356 kits), this went together without a single issue. Panel fitment and parts quality/detail are impeccable. I wish Fujimi still put out kits of this caliber.

Anyway, the final pic is my "left to build" stash...

[TOMT] 90s R&B song with lyrics “Stay with me tonight”

It’s not Jeffrey Osborne or Sam Smith. The song has been playing in my head all night, as I’m an 80s kid (born 1980).

I’m thinking it was an R&B guys group, possibly early 90s. The part that keep looping in my head:

I don’t want you to go (Stay)
Girl I need you so (Staaaaaaay)
Stay, stay with me tonight

Google keeps failing me and suggests Sam Smith

FSD 14.3 getting freaked out by school buses (without lights/arm out)

I’ve been using FSD since 14.2 in November, and it’s been pretty solid all-around. However, 14.3 has seen regressions, especially with school buses.

Now, when it sees a school bus coming in the opposite direction, it starts pumping the brakes and slowing down to almost a stop for no reason. And this isn’t a school bus that has its lights flashing or stop arm out — this is just a school bus driving on a two-lane back road. It’s done this multiple times in the last week.

Another anomaly: I was turning into my neighborhood, and there was a school bus stopped at the stop sign, getting ready to exit my neighborhood. As my Model 3 approached the bus, it again started pumping its brakes and jittering the steering wheel like it didn’t know what to do. I had to gently press my foot on the accelerator to get it to going.

To add insult to injury, I was getting ready to turn onto my street, and a bird flew in front of the car. It tapped the brakes — for a bird 🧐

Has anyone else seen this behavior?

Just needed to vent my frustrations with the buying experience at CarMax. I previously bought a 2017 Audi A4 from CarMax in 2019, had it shipped for free from Virginia to NC, and it was a great experience.

So, I’ve been looking for a Rivian R1T and settled on getting a used 2025 model. It’s the Gen 2, which is improved in many ways over the Gen 1 models. Found one in Kansas City, and paid $1,099 to have it shipped to Raleigh, NC. Here’s the chain of events:

  • March 27: order placed (original “ready to drive” date was April 6 – April 13, although this date would fluctuate by one or two days).
  • April 7: vehicle shipped
  • **Crickets**
  • April 23: I drive to the local store to have my Tesla appraised in person. I was told that since it had been so long, if I come in person, they’ll lock in my trade quote. I deal with a VERY nice sales guy who is super helpful.
  • April 24: vehicle arrives at my local store in Raleigh, NC.
  • April 27: I call my sales guy to ask for an update. And this is where the fun starts.

The vehicle arrived with the charge port door broken. And whoever shipped it put duct tape on the door to hold it in place -- duct tape baking in the sun for a couple of weeks. WOW. But the sales person said that they’d send it to the local Rivian Service Center to be fixed (right down the road) with an estimated completion date of May 8. I’ve been somewhat patient this whole time, because this was the exact spec that I wanted (Dual Motor Max Pack with Light and Sound Package and 28,000 miles on it). So, I said OK, I’ll wait it out.

  • April 28: CarMax refunds my $1,099 and apologizes for the long wait.
  • May 5 (today): I text my salesman and asked if he had any updates. He says door has been ordered, and vehicle is still at the service center.

So, I decided to drive over to the service center myself to see the vehicle (because at this point, I hadn’t seen it in person). I drive the 25 mins over there and find the vehicle in the parking lot.

Tape residue is baked into the paint, and the charge port door is still broken. CarMax presented the vehicle as having no imperfections listed and I couldn’t see any from the online pictures. But when I saw it up close, there was a 12+ inch scratch (down to the metal) on the lower third of the front passenger door. The rear of the bed (driver’s side) had been sideswiped, with scratches to the metal near the wheel well, and the wheel well plastic trim was scratched as well to match. The top driver’s side door molding was popped off.

At that point, I just said “eff it” – a month and a half wasted. So, I texted my sales rep and told him what I saw, and then called the 800 number to have the whole thing canceled.

Was super excited to get the vehicle, but now I’ll just have to keep looking until I find another that matches my specs.

I mean, in the end, I'm not out of anything, but the whole process just left a bad taste in my mouth.
