In between sizes, I’m torn

Tan sandals are 12 (my usual shoe size) and the others are 11. I find that when I wear the 12’s my heel slides further back than what you see here and I have a 3/4” of extra sole at my toes. I can’t decide, 11’s or 12’s?

Walleye fishing Medicine Lake (Plymouth)

I'm looking at the DNR report and it looks like this lake has been stocked with walleye fingerling. The last time was 2019, so those should be at full maturity. Has anyone fished summer walleye in this lake? I live really close and have been on it a few times, but have only targeted LMB.

Tie off options when no dock is available

I’ll be doing some camping on a Canadian Shield lake in northern MN and am looking for some advice on how to effectively tie my boat up. The lake is mostly rocky and gravel, and I have no idea what actual shore conditions are like. Assume there will be good trees to tie off to, and also anticipate no option to beach.

I realize this is mostly a “it depends” question, but any advice is appreciated.

My boat is a Lund SSV 18’

Carlisle tires cracking…thoughts

I have a 400 mile round trip and am wondering if these cracks are anything to worry about. I leave Wednesday, so realistically I have two days to replace them. What would you do?

What can I do to relieve acute thoracic muscle spasms?

A few times per year I'll suddenly get spastic back muscles that make T-spine flexion REALLY painful and create real mobility issues. I suspect it could be caused from sleeping in a weird position or poor mattress support as it will just happen out of the blue.

It will prevent me from sitting up in bed, and make and rounding/flexion of the back super painful. Cat-cow is hard to do as is any sort of Jefferson like curl. I also struggle with any sort of T-spinie rotational exercises. They feel blocked by over-active muscles along the spine. What are some mobility exercises I can do to fix this? I'm an otherwise healthy individual who strength trains, cycles, plays adult softball, etc.

Help me re-attach this linkage on my 1993 Evinrude

Engine had been running really rich at idle and then would fuel starve under throttle. I rebuilt the carb thinking that was the issue. I also dumped my tank of gas. Lo and behold I discovered this linkage under the flywheel had become disconnected. What does this do? And how do I go about fixing and attaching it?

The FXD MN line is the best modern Tudor. Bar none.

It's better than the P39 and BB58. I don't want to hear your complaints about no bracelet option. That's the point.

A/C line replacement on 100 series

I located where my refrigerant is leaking from. I don’t know if it’s the thicker bottom line or the small one that sits above it. There are two lines that run towards the back. Wondering if a section of either can be replaced. You can see that both have fittings in the upper right of the photo, and I see a fitting for the big line towards the back shown in the second photo, but nothing for the smaller line.

Thoracic back pain confusing me

I started my softball season a month ago and noticed after the first game something felt off in my T-spine. It felt stiff on the right side and I chalked it up to aggravating it from some hard swings.

That muscle soreness shifted into some seriously sharp pain along the spine at mid-back, mostly brought on from rotation, rounding of the back, and getting up from lying down. Even core bracing creates a sharp pain. Sneezing also hurts.

Oddly, I’ve also noticed that I’m no longer capable of doing a sit up or crunch, thus sitting up while in bed is impossible. Any back flexion hurts along the spine.

I’ve been trying to work on mobility and strength with bird dogs, planks, and cat-cow. However, I gas out really quickly when planking (unusual for me) and have very limited mobility in the cat position. It’s like my back is blocked. I’m thinking I have very tense erector spinae or multifidus.

No pain with the slouch test and I can perform the Biering-Sorensen test for 3 minutes.

No nerve pain or anything like that. Need help!

8U team is STRUGGLING

I'm coaching an 8U (machine pitch) team and we are getting killed, but still having fun. However, I want to get feedback and insight.

A little background: I’ve got 13 girls on the team, and 4 of them are completely new—3 are first graders. The rest are mostly 7- and 8-year-olds (second graders), and only three had ever hit off a machine before the season started.

From what I’ve heard talking to other coaches, most of the teams we’re playing are made up of second-year players who are 8–9 years old (third graders), and they’re just on a different level—both offensively and defensively.

Here’s where I’m struggling: 8 out of my 13 girls are either afraid to catch the ball or just not able to yet, and they can’t really make clean infield plays. I’ve got maybe 3 or 4 kids who can reliably handle any infield position, but outside of that, it’s tough. We rarely get defensive outs unless the ball is hit straight to first base or an easy force out play.

Hitting has improved, and we were able to record a 4-run inning last night in our second game of a double header.

Where I'm starting to second-guess myself is should I be spending even more time working on throwing and catching and defense, and spend a little less time on hitting? We are REALLY struggling on defense and have yet to record a defensive 3-out inning in 6 games.

So far I've been running our twice-weekly 90 minute practices up this way:

15-20 minutes of catch, emphasizing good throwing mechanics, and proper glove position to catch the ball. I'll spend time with the girls that are struggling.

Then we move into 3 stations and rotate every 15 minutes or so:

  1. Tee's, working on driving the ball and good, quick swings
  2. Fast front soft toss, working on seeing the ball and reacting
  3. Infield ground ball and throw to first work

The last 30 minutes of practice (give or take) is generally a scrimmage.

Would love some insight, maybe this team is just in a tough spot given inexperience, but if there's things I could be doing to tighten up our ability to play defense I'm all ears.

Been doing at home PT exercises following the Rathleff Protocol, using toe spacers, sleeping with a splint, and doing my best to do some intrinsic muscle work. I'm about 5 weeks in and haven't seen a whole lot of improvement. I don't expect to though.

This morning pain/discomfort was more like a 5/10 because I played softball last night and probably overdid it. I wanted to experiment with load tolerance, to see how my foot would react. My heel has been uncomfortable all day until...

I hit on something. I was in the shower and was trying really hard to dome my arch, or in other words, flex my arch and contract it. It's really hard to explain how to do it, but think of pulling your toes towards your heel and/or pressing your big toe into the ground really hard and pulling the midfoot upward. Again it's hard.

However, after a 30 second hold my pain disappeared. Gone. This reminds me of the analgesic effect you get when doing an iso hold on a patellar tendon w/tendinopathy.

I'm not claiming I invented something, but in 5 weeks of PT I haven't been able to get my heel pain to disappear until now.
