Sam Uffindell sending thoughts and prayers - but any action remains to be seen

I hate when politicians use tragedies to win their bs political points.

Where's the extra funding to prepare our city to survive these type of natural disasters Sam?

Where's the legislation to help rebuild sites of importance like the Mount?

Hypocrite. A leech of the system.

Gripes with Xero

I need to bitch about Xero. ANOTHER price rise?! Piss off. I'm so annoyed.

The base plans were okay, I suppose, at their current price. However additional staff on payroll ($4pp) ramps the cost right up. I'm paying ~$123/month currently on the grow plan, so it's going to be over $1500 per year after the price rise, PLUS accountant costs to do EOY books (typically ~$3k).

I don't need or use most of the fancy functions, but I can't go on the lowest plan (a very reasonable $35/mo, though it would actually be $75/mo for me because of the payroll aspect, which is still fine) because I have >20 invoices and >5 bills.

The problem is it is good at what it does (but it does so much more than I need) and it would be a pain to shift. I have thought about doing payroll through another software but the cost would be similar (roughly $40/mo, give and take).

Any solutions? What does everyone else do, just suck it up?

Questions for Green party supporters

EDIT: Green Party supporters in this sub, if this is your idea of trying to win new members to your cause, you aren't doing a great job. I asked a question and most of you just inferred I wanted to convince you of something or just rejected to answer based on "they will work with the right". Divisiveness and very closed minded attitude instead of dialogue (which was what I was expecting from you guys). Pretty disappointing.

What flaws do you see in Opportunity's policies in regards to

Healthy Oceans: https://www.opportunity.org.nz/healthy-oceans

Healthy Land: https://www.opportunity.org.nz/healthy_land

And Climate Action: https://www.opportunity.org.nz/climate_action

Asking Green party supporters specifically because I can't think of any arguments against those from a climate and sustainability perspective.

But I might be missing something!

PSA before you sign up for Xero: their "notice period" cancellation clause will cost you 2 months minimum

Wanted to flag this for anyone shopping cloud accounting software. I signed up for Xero under their 6-month-free promo. When the promo ended, they billed me $55. I scheduled cancellation shortly after getting email from Xero. Never really used the paid service.

Xero's position:

  • $55 is non-refundable ("fee is for access, not usage")
  • On top of that, there's a one-month notice period so I get billed for the following month too
  • Two months total for a product I actively cancelled and didn't use

The notice-period clause is buried in their terms of use and is not shown during the cancel flow. When I pushed back, the second-line rep essentially said "dispute it with your bank if you don't like it."

Not the end of the world financially, but it's the kind of thing that tells you how the company thinks. QuickBooks, FreshBooks, Wave, Zoho — none of them do this. If you're going to sign up: cancel at least 30 days before you actually want to stop paying, or you'll be paying for two months of nothing.

Can I cut lenses with this blade?

I ordered an edger that was suppose to come with a cutter and the blade that came with it looks more like a polishing one?

Conflict of interest?

Here's a question for someone who might know in regards of any legislation with MPs and conflict of interests.

Sam Uffindell owns a kiwi orchard (recently purchased) and a company that sells to Zespri (humates.co.nz)

He has been visiting Zespri in his MP role constantly.

I know this isn't illegal, but why is this not resulting in a conflict of interest at all?

Thanks for your input.

I want to quit Xero. Which alternatives are great?

I'm tired of phishing emails (for years) and downtime, plus price increases for no reason. Sub par features.

Any suggestions on other alternatives? I'm in New Zealand and it has to work with IRD.

Also any suggestions on when to transition? Should I wait for the fiscal year to end?

Thanks in advance, fellow Xero users.
