My experience getting PEP in NJ as a straight woman

Yesterday I posted this: https://www.reddit.com/r/WomensHealth/comments/1v432s4/condom_broke_during_sex_paranoid_about_hiv

Basically condom broke during vaginal sex with a guy, he hadn't been tested in a year and has a lot of partners, I was worried about potential HIV exposure. The consensus from comments was that the risk was pretty low for me to contract HIV from this and PEP wasn’t really necessary, and there were other STDs to worry about, and also he sucks for not testing regularly. I decided to get PEP anyways for ease of mind, I did bleed slightly after sex so there was some tearing.

I went to Planned Parenthood the next day and got STD tested and got prescribed PEP. The guy I slept with did finally agree to get tested as well, but I don’t know when he’ll get to that so I’d rather not risk missing that 72 hour preventative period for HIV. After one month of PEP medicine, I’ll get STD tested again and then again after 3 months and I should be good after that if they show up negative.

I’m in NJ, USA and have Medicaid Horizon, NJ health insurance if it helps anyone going through something similar in this area. Everything was covered by Medicaid. It was very easy getting prescribed PEP at Planned Parenthood, the doctor explained how it worked and said it was up to me if I felt like the guy I had sex with was in a high risk group. I had to get my bloodwork done on the spot to make sure my kidneys and livers are in good shape to handle the medicine. The results will come in a week, so I start the medicine immediately, and if the bloodwork shows I shouldn’t be on PEP then they’ll call me to stop taking it. If you haven’t been to Planned Parenthood before it helps to go right when they open in the morning to avoid waiting too long. I did a walk in at 11am and was in the waiting room for about 30 minutes, this was a Thursday.

There was a fiasco getting my PEP prescription fulfilled and I almost didn’t get it in time. I had my prescription sent to CVS initially, but they had stopped taking Medicaid. They called me and told me to contact Walgreens, which accepts Medicaid, and have them get the prescription transferred to them from CVS. I called my local Walgreens, was told no problem and I’d get a text in a couple hours from them when my medicine was ready. This was the afternoon. At 6:30pm I have no updates so I call Walgreens again, apparently CVS took very long to transfer my prescription and also they didn’t have PEP in stock (PEP is two pills and they were missing one). They were going to order it but it would arrive in FOUR days. I was freaking out because it was already the day after sex and I had 72 hours to take this medicine after exposure for it to work. And most of the Walgreens closed at 9pm. I asked them to see if any Walgreens in NJ had it in stock, and I got soooooo lucky that one in North Jersey had both pills for PEP to fulfill my prescription and they were opened 24/7. It took them a couple hours to fulfill the prescription. I got PEP finally and took the first dose at 9:30pm, about 22 hours after I had accidental unprotected sex. Now I just have to take the two pills everyday at the same time for the next month and I’m good.

Also, turns out Walgreens had my phone number mistyped by one digit so that’s why I never got any texts or call updates and I had to call them and be stuck in robo call hell for half the day. If you don’t get a “Walgreens: Reply YES to opt in to pharmacy text messages” you should double check your number on file.

So yeah, I’m all good but I would have been completely screwed if no Walgreens had PEP in stock near me. It was literally just one Walgreens that had it in the state and thank god it was a 24/7 one. I would definitely go to a doctor asap to get prescribed if you want PEP because it really took a whole day to finally get it from these mishaps. Hopefully it goes much smoother for anyone reading

Condom broke during vaginal sex, worried about HIV

The condom broke when I was having sex with a fuck buddy, this was probably the fifth time we’ve hooked up. I always use condoms with partners, but I know he doesn’t, he’s always complaining about them, and he’s way more promiscuous and regularly does group sex. It was towards the end of sex that it broke, he continued for maybe 10-20 seconds then took his dick out and came.

The last time he got tested was last year. He has another regular female partner who he goes raw with and she gets tested every 2-3 months and she says she’s fine.

I asked him if he could go get STD tested tomorrow to ease my mind, but he thinks it’s unnecessary and won’t. I read the chances of HIV transmission through vaginal sex is extremely low and the condom was only broken for a short time. And most likely he doesn’t even have it. But it’s making me really paranoid. Should I go to the doctor and go on Prep tomorrow to prevent possible HIV infection? I don’t know if thats overkill, since there’s lots of side effects to Prep as well :/. Is it statistically low enough that I can just take my chances with this?

Having sex 6 days after colposcopy?

So I had a colposcopy done 6 days ago, I had several samples taken on the entrance of the cervix and one taken inside. My gynecologist said no sex for a week, no swimming, no tampons, etc.

I had weird discharge the first couple of days and felt sore and crampy but that went away. I feel fine now just have a slightly "off" smell but I feel clean.

Tomorrow would be the full week but I got invited to a threesome tonight with two guys. Tomorrow I'm going to the beach for a trip with friends and will be in the ocean a lot the next few days. How bad would it be to have sex a day earlier using condoms? It's two guys I know and am comfortable with just worried about messing up my cervix then going swimming.

Fare evasion ticket question

So I was dumb and walked through an opened gate at the subway without paying and got a written warning by two cops. I didn‘t have my id on me but I gave my real name and birth date , everything is spelled correctly. I recently moved apartments and gave my address but not unit number and I accidentally said my old zip code, it’s off by one number at the end from my new one. The cop said it’s just a first time written warning, there’s no fine, and I don’t have to go to court. But under court date he did put a date for August? is that just the latest time to respond to the ticket, I don’t actually have a court hearing right?

Also should I call and correct my zip code. I’m worried they’ll check my info and notice the address is wrong when they process the ticket. is that something they would care about? I also haven’t had a chance to update my new address yet so there’s another address I’m under right now. and the cops had cameras so they have my face
