Are there any good alternatives to the Google nest ecosystem?

I know this is the not the best place to ask this question but given how google is making low key efforts in the nest products I am tempted to move away from it. We currently use google thermostat, CO/smoke detector, Wyze door lock and two external Wyze cameras.
We are moving to another house. That house does not have any smart gadgets except a ring doorbell and a ecobee thermostat. We are planning to add cameras, smart door lock, new CO/Smoke detectors, thermostat etc. currently google still looks the best way forward but just checking if any one has tried any other company (like Amazon+ecobee etc). Wyze is another company but I find their products entry level and good for the price point they sell at. Looking for some thing long term.

Anyone using the Tesla mobile charger level 2 as their main charger for everyday charging?

Hello all. I have a Tesla mobile charger I am currently using for the past 8-9 months to charge my car for a few hours at night. It’s connected to a nema 14-50 plug and serves my purpose well. I was thinking of getting a wall charger installed but was wondering if it’s okay to continue using the mobile charger as the main charger? Worried if it’s safe enough.?
Thanks.

Wall charger recommendations pls.

Looking to get a wall charger. Drive a MY. I was going to get the gen 3 Tesla wall charger. But saw Grizzl E offer a similar product and some cash back.
Question- does gen 3 charger offer better features vs a Grizzl E? Like in all features etc.

People who have been through this what did you end up choosing and what would you recommend? I am leaning towards Grizzl E given that it’s free for the first year and then a yearly membership fee but was wondering if I will miss out any neat features of gen 3 charger.

Flooring options to replace carpet in the basement?

Rec room and two bedrooms in the basement in a split level bungalow. Existing house has old carpet. We like carpet and want to replace it with new carpet but our contractor is suggesting LVP since it a basement and moisture could be an issue. They also said engineered hardwood is not viable since it’s a basement.

Any suggestions on what else can be considered? If LVP then any particular type of LVP? We like cosy spaces so wanted carpet. But I guess can use area rugs on LVP. Pls share your experience or advice. Thanks

Popcorn ceiling - remove or let it be?

Moving into a 2009 built house. The previous owners had popcorn ceiling. It’s not those big sized popcorns but what’s commonly seen in homes from that decade. We are getting the kitchen remodeled and one washroom. Rest of the house stays as is. We can’t seem to make up our mind if we should get the popcorn ceiling removed? It’s gonna be messy but will it be really worth it? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I am planning to a get a wall charger installed in my garage. Tesla wall charger seemed a no brainer but saw GrizzlE is offering a cash back/pay back on every kWh charged and the free charger.
Is the Tesla wall charger really useful for analytics or anything specific that it offers that other third party chargers don’t?

Planning to sell our condo townhouse. Well maintained and in a nice neighborhood in Waterdown. 30 yr old. Given how the market is would you suggest listing it a little over asking price to save room for negotiations? Or at market comparable price. I know the realtor would have their input but wanted a general opinion from the group as a buyer/buyer agent. .

I was watching the movie Michael with my teenage son, and there is a scene where MJ's music videos are not allowed to be aired on MTV initially. My son looks at me and asks What's MTV?'

It hit me like a brick!!! wth..kids these days don't know what MTV is/was and how awesome it was watching all the shows, VJs, and music videos. YouTube has ruined it for us and the current generation.

Are both brands compatible, or should I just install all First Alert detectors? Any other better options?
