[FO] First cross stitch project

This is my first cross stitch project, so it was a lot of trial and error, but I stuck with it and I'm happy with how it came out. It definitely didn't turn out exactly like the pattern but I think this was good enough for a first attempt. The pattern is from the Etsy shop TheCraftyDactyl 💕

Parents hate children

I apologize for the rant but part of my decision to be child-free is that so many parents actively hate children. I work in healthcare and see it all the time, and I would hate to have a child and then be forced to endure sharing spaces with people like that. School events, pediatrician visits, extracurricular activities, etc. would be an absolute nightmare for someone like me.

There are too many parents who believe children have no right to privacy, opinions, or basic decency. I see too many parents argue in defense of HITTING children, and too many parents have berated their children in the waiting room when their child is sick/injured. It is sickening to me that so many people claim to love their kids while treating them as if they are sub-human. And these same miserable people will try to convince others to have kids. My own mother (she's chill now) was the same way my whole childhoos but was convinced that having children is this amazing journey people need to experience.

TLDR it angers me that parents treat children as less than human, and I would hate to have to be around people like that any more than necessary. Also they are miserable and want me to be miserable with them.

Aphrodite altar refresh

I cleaned and reorganized everything today, added some things and removed some old things. I'm thinking of writing self-love affirmations for myself on the sticky notes 💕

Spouse's birthday gift

I already know I should have used a stabilizer 😅

I embroidered this quote onto a shirt for my spouse's birthday, and I had to do it during work (I work from home) so it would be a surprise. I really hope she likes it because it took me 3 weeks because of my joint pain. It's a quote from Zohran Mamdani, who she really looks up to.

Also, is there any way to reduce the scrunching or is it too late?

Pride Shirt

I embroidered this shirt as a gift for myself for pride month. It would look better if I was able to get all the solvy paper off 😅 but I'm calling it quits for now and letting the washing machine do the rest.

AIO AI is deteriorating society

I work at a call center for medical scheduling and my supervisor LOVES AI. I have not had a single conversation with him where he hasn't brought it up. I am trying to escape this job and go back to working in person in patient registration, which I did before taking this job. Its so much more fulfilling and working with people helps with the stress when its busy.

I let my supervisor and manager know I was looking for a new position because its company policy if we're staying within the organization, and my supervisor told me it was a mistake to go back to working in person if I plan on making healthcare my career. He said that people prefer registering online and that they don't want to talk to people anymore. He implied in this conversation and others that medical reception/patient access is an obsolete and unnecessary position. He was saying that instead of having people working in the clinics, he wanted us switching to having people working from home available to video call the patient IF they needed help with checking in.

He also said something about transitioning to AI scheduling more of our imaging orders, without giving patients the option to ask for a person. He also said the clinics were getting rid of their medical receptionists because it was hurting their profitability, but I looked into it and the network had over $1B in profits last year. Our CEO has $3M salary + $1M in shares.

Has society really deteriorated that much that "nonprofit" hospitals are cutting employees to replace them with AI to save money? I was shaking mad by the end of that call, but am I overreacting? I know he was trying to give me some professional advice but it just made me angrier the more he talked.

Help with pattern

I wanted to embroider this panel from one of my favorite series, and I have a good portion of it figured out so far. I can use french knot or satin stitch to fill in the black sections but what stitches would you recommend for the swirly blue parts? Should I just do back split stitch for simplicity? I'm planning on making this my first bigger project so any tips would be GREATLY appreciated

I cannot cut straight lines to save my life, so maybe I should invest in pre-cut fabric 😅 I'm still learning with every project so maybe I'll re-make this sometime. Also the literacy rate is specific to American adults

LOTR was a big part of my childhood 💕

I experimented with some stitches I don't normally use and I'm really glad I did 💕

Optimism of the will

I based this off of an Antonio Gramsci quote "pessimism of the intellect, optimism of the will". I have been feeling a wealth of despair lately because of the climate crisis and AI data centers, as well as the political state of my country. This quote reminded me that even when there is no evidence that radical change is possible, we should still strive for better. Despair achieves nothing 💕

P.s. the amount of french knots in the afro took me a week, but it was so worth it for the texture

First project!

Finally finished my first project. It took me 11 days and I learned a lot of what I need to improve next time. Fo r instance, adding the flag to the transfer paper design because I can't do straight lines to save my life. (For context, these are characters from my favorite video game)

So this is my first project using water soluble transfer paper. I hand washed it yesterday and then put it in the dryer on the lowest setting. The problem now is that the thread feels hardened and rigid now. Is there a way to make is soften again?
